An antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial substance active against bacteria. It is the most important type of antibacterial agent for fighting bacterial infections, and antibiotic medications are widely used in the treatment and prevention of such infections. They may either kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. A limited number of antibiotics also possess antiprotozoal activity. Antibiotics are not effective against viruses such as the common cold or influenza; drugs which inhibit growth of...

Macrobid and longterm heart palpitations
I was prescribed Macrobid 4 times a day for 14 days back in June 2015. After 10 days my heart was racing , I had a headache so bad it felt like my brain was swelling. After reading some blogs and seeing what other folks were experiencing I quit taking them on day 10. I am still having severe palpitations 3 months later and feeling my heart skipping beats. Until the Macrobid I have never had this happen. I recently was put on a 24 hour heart monitor and it only worked for 14 hours before it errored. When they downloaded the recording it showed I had over 5000 incidents in the 14 hours. I'm scheduled now for an echo cardiac ultrasound in 3 days and my physician wants to put me on a low dose beta blocker. I feel nervous about the beta-blocker so am waiting til the ultrasound. My questi...

Cefuroxime Axetil for simple collarbone fracture????
I am living in China so I always like to check things out ASAP when ever I have to see a doctor here. Anyhow my daughter, who is almost 18 months had a fall today and broke her collar bone. X-ray showed a nice clean break no problem so he recommended a brace which I expected but for some reason he also prescribed Cefureoxime Axetil 125mg. I of course just Googled this and I'm a bit surprised at him giving her an antibiotic. I don't speak Chinese but and my wife not knowing medical English just said it's supposed to help her blood. Considering the overuse and abuse of antibiotics in China and considering I have found no creditable reason for her to take it I am not giving it to her. I wanted to ask here does anyone know of a reason why this drug would be prescribed for a simp...

Purbac with Lagatrim
Can I take Lagatrim (Cotrimoxazole) in place of Purbac (Sulphamethoxazole,Trimethoprim) together with ARVs? ## Both Lagatrim/Cotrimoxazole, and Purbac contain the same active ingredients, Sulfamethoxazole, and Trimethoprim, so they are interchangeable, as long as the dosage, and dosage frequency is the same. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and headache. Ref: Cotrimoxazole Information As to the ARV's, it depends on which specific ones you're taking. Can you please post back with more information?

Keflex infected tooth
Hello, I took this for ten days four X per day for infected tooth. How long AFTER I get off it will the keflex still help? I am going to be doing a second round while I wait for oral surgery, but how long in between rounds should I be okay? Thanks MUCH. It's urgent. ## Unfortunately, there's no time frame that can be quoted to answer your question, since we are all different, and it may also be affect by other factors, such as your overall health, the type of infection you have, how severe the infection is, and etc. The best thing to do would be to try and minimize the dosing gap, as much as possible. It is an antibiotic, not a controlled substance, so to speak, so you should be able to pick up a refill right away. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Keflex as possibly inc...

Ampicilina 500mg for bacterial infection
I have a tooth infection and 2 bottles of ampicilina 500mg (I am not allergic to penicillin). Will this help my tooth infection? Can a person become immune to this drug? I have taken it before and it did not seem to help much. ## Did it get rid of your infection before? Ampicillin is an antibiotic and helping to eradicate bacterial infections is all it does, it will not help with pain, or any other symptoms. Learn more Ampicillin details here. And it's not actually that you get immune to it, per se, but that the bacteria can grow resistant to it, if you don't finish a full course of treatment, or if you use it too often. Have you consulted a dentist? If you have an infected tooth, then the underlying problem that resulted in the infection, such as a cavity must be fixed, or you ...

Cefuroxime Antibiotic Half Life
How long does Cefuroxime remain in your system? ## How long after the last dose does Cefuroxime axetil 500 mg, twice a day, last in the body until it is completely gone? Thank you. ## How long does it take for Cefuroxime 500mg to leave your system after the last dose? ## I’ve been taking Cefuroxime for ten days now but my body is very warm. I’m planning to stop now and am wondering how long this medication will stay in my body? ## The serum half-life of Cefuroxime is only 1 to 1.5 hours, full bodily clearance takes 5, or 6 half-lives, so it should be out of your body in just 5 to 7.5 hours. The FDA warns that Cefuroxime may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Ref: Cefuroxime Information Is there anything else I can h...

why does cefdinir make my urine smell
Does cefdinir make your urine smell and does it cause you to need to go more often? ## The exact reason why medications do certain things to the body are unknown, however, they all do have side effects, because you are ingesting a foreign substance. Cefdinir is an antibiotic, a generic for Omnicef. The most common side effects include: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and headache. That said, it should not make you urinate more frequently, but medications do affect people differently. Have you talked to your doctor about this? ## Yes. My urine smells awful, just like the smell/aftertaste of the capsule when I take my dose of Cefdinir. ## Mine too, just reeks.

sulfameth trimethoprim 800 160 what is this used for Insect bites
I have what I think were some type spider or some other type of insect bites 5 of them, they sort of look like a Brown Recluse bite, but not as bad. They turned into ugly open sores within a few hours, just like a Brown Recluse Spider bite would do. The doctor says the it now looks like cellulitis, that's a skin infection below the outer skin layers. So the bites went deep into the hypodermis skin layers .My doctor gave me some other type of antibiotic for 10 days 2000 mg a day. They cleared up some, but are still ugly pits, Yesterday, the doctor gave me the SMT 800/160 drugs. Take 2 per day, for 10 days. As of tonight, I have not had any side effects, but with only 4 pills in my system, it may be to early for side effects to show up. I will try to come back later in the week and po...
