Antibiotics Overview

Macrobid and longterm heart palpitations
6 Replies RSS
I was prescribed Macrobid 4 times a day for 14 days back in June 2015. After 10 days my heart was racing , I had a headache so bad it felt like my brain was swelling. After reading some blogs and seeing what other folks were expierencing I quit taking them on day 10. I am still having severe palpitations 3 months later and feeling my heart skipping beats. Until the Macrobid I have never had this happen. I recently was put on a 24 hour heart monitor and it only worked for 14 hours before it errored. When they downloaded the recording it showed I had over 5000 incidents in the 14 hours. Im scheduled now for an echo cardiac ultrasound in 3 days and my physician wants to put me on a lowdose beta blocker. I feel nervous about tthe betablocker so am waiting til the ultrasound . My question I ...

Doxycycline & Lyme bullseye rash
5 Replies RSS
My doctor put me on Doxycycline for 3 weeks after noticing a bullseye around a bite on my arm. I was outside three days earlier in an area that had tick warnings, so she had a strong suspicion it was Lyme. But the bite actually had two puncture wounds and not the typical bullseye where you see a distinct ring around it. So now I’m thinking it might actually be a spider bite. I’m concerned I might be on antibiotics for no reason. Is it harmful to be on antibiotics for so long if I’m not sick? She did a blood analysis, but said it will most likely come back negative since I just got bit. I was told the blood work won’t show anything for another few weeks, so I could be taking a risk if I stop the antibiotic. Does anyone know if a tick bite would have two punctures?...

is macrobid safe to give dogs
6 Replies RSS
My 7 month old puppy seems to have a UTI. I have macro is for my own recurring UTIs. Is it safe to use for my dog? ## Hello, Troy! How are you and the pup? Yes, it is safe to use in dogs and is prescribed to them for UTIs, as well. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for your pup. If they have any type of problem with kidney function, or a kidney disease, they can't take it. Thus, it would be best to consult with your vet, first, to be safe. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your reply. After searching several other sites, along with this one, I decided to giv...

what can I use to cure a toilet infection
3 Replies RSS
Am 15 years old. I know that I have a toilet infection. I've tried various treatment options but it is not cured. What are the names of drugs that can cure it? ## what tablet or drug can I use to treat my toilet infection? ## You guys should for sure work with your doctors if possible because they need to check exactly what infection you might have - be it bacterial, fungal, etc. There are antibiotics and other drugs that treat infections, but they will only work if the nature of the infection is known. I hope this helps and wish you good health! ## You probably have a uti or a yeast infection. What are you feeling?

Amoxicillin for tooth infection
31 Replies RSS
In december I developed bad tooth pain and a sore on the gum in a left molar. I have a heart murmer and my blood press.rose to a high level but was erratic and other times a normal rate. I called a dentist and he said to go to the ER. I did and they prescribed amoxicillin at 500mgs every 8 hrs. The last dose was on Jan 3, 2013 and by then the tooth problem was gone. I went to a dentist and he found no infections but said a molar on the opposite side which had lost some filling should be repaired soon. I made an appt. with him, but in the meantime it developed a blister near the root and soreness at the gumline. Also I started having erratic BP swings again sometimes 160/105 and resting pulse to 88. When I called he said to cancel his appt and go to the ER again, he didn't think the ...

Amoxicillin and Alcohol

I am taking 3 pills of Amoxicillin everyday on a 7 day course, however it is my best friends birthday party and I want to know if I will be able to drink alcohol? Is this safe? ## It is best to avoid alcohol while taking a prescription medication, as warned by the U.S. FDA, because it may cause worsening of the side effects, including nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness. However, if you are approved to imbibe, please make sure that you will not be driving, or operating any dangerous machinery. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is a small glass of wine or a beer ok to drink while on Amoxicillin/k 500 mg medication? ## Will AMOX TR-K CLV 875-125MG still work if you drink beer or wine? I see it says it's not good to drink any alcohol on it, but does it still work?

betaclav side effects URGENT!
1 Reply RSS
I have never been allergic to any antibiotics, but my Dr prescribed Betaclav 1000 for my bacterial infection. I've taken 5 already, one in the morning, one at night as instructed. But last night I got a rash all over my body that itches (res, blotchy, not raised) but it went away during the night. This morning I took a tablet again and my lip started swelling up. What is going on here? ## This medication contains Amoxicillin, and Clavulanate, and that sounds like you might be having an allergic reaction to this medication. It would be best to contact your doctor immediately, especially given the lip swelling. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and diarrhea. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
