Can Canine Keflex/Cephalexin 500mg also be taken by humans? It was given to my dog for an ear infection since there are some left I was wondering if I could take the rest for an upper respiratory infection (due to seasonal allergies)? The capsule is pale green in color with the # 219 printed on the capsule. Thanks ## My dog has been chewing himself raw and i was giving him amoxicillin. I want to know is it safe I give him a light green pill that says 219 219 on it, since I ran out of the amoxicillin? ## Hello BJ, According to the NIH this pill is intended for animal use only, the bottle itself states that if consumed by you on accident that you should immediately consult your doctor and go the ER. So I think it's safe to assume that this medication should not be taken by humans. If ...

Keflex and Pregnancy

I have a niece that is pregnant and is allergic to Penicillin. Her regular doctor gave her Keflex for what they thought was a bacterial skin infection. Her mother, my sister, was just told that Keflex can cause deafness for an unborn infant. Is this true? Is there a website or someplace I can get information from about this? We are very worried. The skin condition ended up not being bacterial after all. Thanks for all info you can give us. ## I was put on it when i was pregnant with my son back in 2005. I was told to take it up to my delivery that it would be fine for the baby. He is going to be 5 in February and he is just fine and has no signs of anything wrong. ## Yes, according to the FDA reports, it has no known harmful effects on the fetus and is considered safe for use during pre...

I can fill my script but I have keflex from my girlfriend. ## It would be best to take the medication that has been prescribed for you, sometimes a specific antibiotic is required. In between 4-5hrs gas forming in stomach and doing loose motion no pain. It started one month before while I taken antibiotic ( kalvox 1g & serodase 5mg) for tooth infection which was doctor prescribed. Medicine has stopped after 5days course still stomach problem is continuing . Please suggest a solution ## Did you mean Keflex? The NIH does warn that diarrhea/loose motions, can be a normal side effect, which may linger for a week, or so, after you finish the medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

emptying medicine from capsules..

Does anyone know if it is okay to empty the medicine out of a 500 mg capsule and take it alone in a spoon? My husband cannot swallow capsules and he failed to ask the pharmacist for a liquid form of the medication. ## I too have trouble swallowing any pills--I just put them in a teaspoon of applesauce and they go right down ! ## That is okay to do, as long as it is not a time released medication, and there are not other warnings telling you that you shouldn't do so. This is an antibiotic, and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?

keflex ibs nightmare

I took keflex for a week after bunion surgery. I lost 40 percent of my hair. It was an all over thinning. It receded in my temples. While it was falling out, it felt like someone took a blow torch to my head. I was then pressured into to trying mobic. The hair loss hadn't started yet. Takes a couple months. Anyway, as soon as I took it, I was a mess. I now have IBS D and C. It's horrible. I had no idea this could happen. My life is ruined! Perscription doesn't warn you, doctor doesn't either. I won't go into the side effects. There's way to many! I'm getting a lawyer! If you look up the side effects online, it doesn't warn you there either. Unless you specifically type in hair loss, or IBS from keflex or mobic. Can't cure it either. You can treat with...

Reducing the dose of keflex

I was prescribed keflex 500mg 4 times a day for a week for a tooth infection but it makes me tired and feel funny can i reduce the dosages to 2 a day ## Hello, Nene! How are you? I'm very sorry about how you're feeling. However, all medications carry the risk of causing side effects. As listed by the FDA, along with drowsiness, you may experience dizziness, nausea, headache, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash. You should take it as prescribed by your doctor, because while these side effects may be annoying for now, there is a risk of death due to the infection, if it's left to continue out of control. Alternatively, by lowering your dose, you create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. If you really don't like taking this one, the best thing to do ...

Is Pota-Vi-Kin and Keflex(Cephalexin) similar in preventing an infection

Going to the dentist tomorrow for teeth cleaning, and in the past have taken Kefex( Cephalexin ) 2000mg to prevent any chance of an infection. I am currently near the Mexican border, and have excess to a penicillin called Pota-Vi-Kin. Will this be as effective? ## They are both antibiotics that are used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. But you should take the one that your doctor, or dentist feels is best for you. Why do you usually take one? Do you have a heart condition? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, and non-allergic skin rash.

If I do and run out, will my dentist give me more, and will it be effective? ## i would like to know if keflex can be taken by a person who is alergic to sulfa drugs ## Keflex is an antibiotic so it will fight an infection if there is one BUT if not then your tooth ache will not subside. If you have a refill on it then yes you can get more otherwise your doctor/dentist may want to just evaluate your situation and then he can decide whether or not you need something more then just a quick fix ## I would like to know if Keflex will help with a toothache, they are 500mg, how should i take them? ## 1.
