I took 500mg Keflex for 28 days for a cyst back in September 2013. The cyst did not respond so I was sent to an infectious disease doctor who said I had P. Mirabilis infection and he changed my antibiotic (That one didn't work either). Long story short.. during the use of the Keflex my leg muscles became very weak and sore. They are still weak and sore and getting worse. I told my doctor the backs of my legs felt so tight like the muscles were stretched too far like rubber bands. He didn't seem to care or think anything of it. So now here we are 10 months later, I still have the stupid cyst or P. mirabilis whatever and my legs are so sore I can barely walk. It hurts so bad to get up after I have been sitting for even just 5 minutes.

Hello, Dizzy! How are you?

If you still have the infection, it would make more sense that it is causing the weakness and pain that you're experiencing, especially since this is a long time after your having taken that antibiotic.

Where is the cyst located? Because proteus mirabilis is usually in the kidneys.

Have you consulted another doctor for a second opinion?

The cyst is on my inner thigh, its more like a cluster of cysts that repeatedly fill and drain and then go dormant for a couple weeks and fill and drain again. The doctor sent a swab sample to the lab to check for MRSA and the only thing that came back positive is P. Mirabilis. The cysts don't spread and they are covering an area about 4" x 3". I've been on Keflex, then Clindamycin HCl (They took me off that within 4 days when the daignostic results came back as P. Mirabilis), and then I was switched to another antibiotic which I don't remember. This past May I was put on MACROBID for a bladder infection. Lastly, I have been threw 6 tubes of Mupirocin. I have been rotating around 3 doctors for this. I have Kaiser insurance. I never thought the infection could be causing the extreme muscle weakness, I assumed it was the Keflex because the muscle problems started when I started the antibiotic. Maybe I can get one more opinion from another doctor.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one..I took 2 doses of this medication, the following morning my entire body was sore and achy. Almost like I felt I was getting the flu. I didn't take the medicine again, but ever since..I've had problems wit my legs. It's been almost two weeks now, and it hurts to walk. My legs ache, my muscles are tight, my knees hips and ankles ache. I don't know what's goin on but it's terrifying me.
