Cipro Overview

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections.[3] This includes bone and joint infections, intra abdominal infections, certain type of infectious diarrhea, respiratory tract infections, skin infections, typhoid fever, and urinary tract infections, among others.[3] For some infections it is used in addition to other antibiotics.[3] It can be taken by mouth, as eye drops, as ear drops, or intravenously.[3&am...

Neurological damage from Cipro?

I took Cipro for a UTI and within 24 hrs of starting it began to have issues with breathing and energy and balance. After finishing the drug things got worse. And the thing that bothers me most is that my Dr. rx'ed the drug for a UTI BEFORE getting the lab work... the bacteria was e-coli.... and Cipro didn't kill it!!! I still had the UTI.... Meanwhile it is now 7 months since I took the drug and I'm still having massive issues with balance and extreme fatigue. I have a friend who took it and lost his color vision for 2 yrs. He also experienced balance issues, brain fog and extreme fatigue. I'd like to know of others who have similar issues, how long it has been since the last dose and what conditions they are still suffering from. Please talk to me about your experience...

Abdominal pain after Cipro and Bactrim

I was given two different antibiotics, over the phone) before seeing my regular doctor. (Cipro and Bactrim). Dr. thought my symptoms were urinary tract infection. Antibiotics didn't help They sent me to a urologist. He put me on vesicare for over active bladder which helped my bladder but still had pain in left side. I finally went to gastro doctor who said I had diverticulosis. I had read that this would not cause as much pain as diverticulitis. I wondered if the the strong pain I had could have been diverticulosis and was helped by antibiotics? ## Yes, and yes, it can cause severe pain, and it is commonly treated with antibiotics, as well as dietary changes, and hospitalization, if necessary. I have a friend that has it, and the whole way he found out was due to the severe pain la...

Ciprofloxacn For Upper Respiratory Infection

Is Cipro an antibiotic given for an Upper Resp. Infection? I ## Hi Cheri, The answer to your question is "yes", Ciprofloxacin can be used to treat a number of infections including: Upper and Lower respiratory tract infections (although it is not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice for either of them). I would actually consider discussing with your doctor and/or pharmacy whether or not they think you should be using some other antibiotic (depending on how severe the infection is). The reason being, is that if you don't use the most effective antibiotic for your infection, then the bacteria can build a resistance to what you may be using; possibly rendering the treatment useless in the end. So yeah, I think it really depends on how severe your infection really is. If...

Taking Cipro with Vitamin D

Can I take a 500 mg Cipro tablet after I took my Vitamin D supplement? The antibiotic is for a small boil. ## Dear Deb, Vitamin D is naturally present in our bodies from sunlight. I don't mean for this to come off as sarcastic in any way, but to my understanding Ciprofloxacin does not interfere with what's otherwise naturally occurring in our bodies (with the exception of reducing beneficial gut flora - and that could be replenished with prebiotics/probiotics). However I believe most vitamins and minerals in their raw form should be fine to take alongside it. I am also speaking from personal experience. NOTE: According to a Walgreen's disclaimer, "sulfa antibiotics in particular can reportedly cause photosensitivity", in which case, taking a Vitamin D supplement inst...

Cipro Side Effects

Hey! I took Cipro for a SIBO infection for two weeks, twice a day. It made me extremely sick but so did the SIBO so we just kind of went with it anyway. My concern is the tendon issue. I have pains all the time that come and go for various unknown reasons, and am having pain in my right arm right now. I plan to call the doctor, but I was wondering in the meantime: does anyone know how long it might take for the risk of tearing a tendon to go away? Is it a few days, weeks, any clue? It's very hard for me not to work out and I've been staying put for 2 weeks now, so I'm ready to get up and go. ## What did your doctor say? I haven't really been able to find a definitive answer on this either, unfortunately. My best guess would be to wait a week or so, after finishing it, bu...

500 mg cipro vs penicillin

Is nipecil acronym penicillon from Mexico, the same as ciprofloxacin? ## Hello, James! How are you? No, the FDA lists Nipecil as containing Penicillin, which is an antibiotic, but it's in a different class than Ciprofloxacin. Not all are effective at eradicating the same bacteria, so you should always take the one your doctor has prescribed. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What is the difference between ciprofloxacin HCA 500 and penicillin a nipecil 500 and is it safe to use on a diverticulitis infection? My husband has diverticulitis and he's in pain and had bacteria stuck in his colon. Can he use penicillin a nipecil 500 instead of ciprofloxacin? Thank you

Time needed to wait between taking Cipro and Amoxicillin

I have respiratory issue and was put on doxycycline as I was going into bronchitis or pneumonia. A week after that I got diagnosed with a UTI but at that same time found out I had a tooth abscess. I was told by the regular doctor and dentist to be careful of taking too many antibiotics. I finished the Cipro about 7 days ago and still dealing with teeth problems (two teeth had root canals and 1 extraction). I contacted the dentist and he said to try and go as long as possible without taking the Amoxicillin. I’m feeling very run down like I have the flu but I don’t and still Am I safe to take Amoxicillin and a probiotic now? How long should someone wait in between taking antibiotics? ## Only your doctor can specify how long a time period is appropriate, but you do know your bo...

If allergic to Levaquin should I take Cipro

I broke out with skin blisters while taking Levaquin 3 years ago. Today my Doctor has put me on Cipro. My question is if I am allergic to Levaquin will I have the same reaction with Cipro ## Although both medications are in the same fluoroquinolone drug class, I don't believe you'd experience the same type of reaction with a different brand. Your allergic reaction could've also been due to one or more inactive ingredients (binders/fillers) that may have been present in the Levaquin and not necessarily in Ciprofloxacin. Have you started taking the Ciprofloxacin yet with any success? ## I started with Cipro on Tuesday and have not seen any adverse reactions to it. I need to take it twice a day for 14 days so far so good. I will keep you apprised of the results. ## I did not ha...

Naloxone with Cipro

I was diagnosed with a UTI and prescribed Naloxone 2 tabs 4x a day for 5 days + Cipro 1 tab. 2 x day for 7 days. I am getting headaches and think it's from the Naloxone. Would I be ok to stop the Naloxone and continue with the Cipro. I've been on this course of meds for 3 days.

cipro severe hives

I was prescribed Cipro for Bronchitis in the hospital. I took only 4 doses 2 pills twice a day! I broke out with severe Hives and was given Benedryl, Predisone, Pepcid and nothing is helping! I am so itchy and uncomfortable and have been to the ER 3 times. What can I do. It's been 3 days since I stopped taking it and I am suffering so bad!! ## Hello, Chrissy! How are you? I am so sorry about the hives, it's happened to me before, so I know how awful that is. What dose of Benadryl have you been taking? You should check with your doctor first to make sure that it's safe for you, but you can usually take up to 50mgs per dose. And soaking in a warm tub with some epsom salts may also help. But otherwise, it's really just going to take time. ## Hi thanks I have a appointment w...
