Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that's used to treat bacterial infections and it is not effective against the viruses that cause cold and flu.

Learn more Ciprofloxacin details here.

However, in many cases the flu or a cold can lead to irritation that may result in an infection, such as a sinus infection, so her doctor may have prescribed it, if she was showing signs of something like that.

Did she ask her doctor why it was prescribed?

Can I take ciprofloxacin 500 mg for the flu...my husband has the flu with cough, fever, congestion...he is on an antibiotic and Tamiflu...now I'm at the early stage of the flu, I had this antibiotic for something else I had before, thought I could take this to nip it in the bud before it gets too bad.
