Canine Keflex/Cephalexin

Can Canine Keflex/Cephalexin 500mg also be taken by humans? It was given to my dog for an ear infection since there are some left I was wondering if I could take the rest for an upper respiratory infection (due to seasonal allergies)? The capsule is pale green in color with the # 219 printed on the capsule. Thanks ## My dog has been chewing himself raw and i was giving him amoxicillin. I want to know is it safe I give him a light green pill that says 219 219 on it, since I ran out of the amoxicillin? ## Hello BJ, According to the NIH this pill is intended for animal use only, the bottle itself states that if consumed by you on accident that you should immediately consult your doctor and go the ER. So I think it's safe to assume that this medication should not be taken by humans. If ...

Keflex and Pregnancy

I have a niece that is pregnant and is allergic to Penicillin. Her regular doctor gave her Keflex for what they thought was a bacterial skin infection. Her mother, my sister, was just told that Keflex can cause deafness for an unborn infant. Is this true? Is there a website or someplace I can get information from about this? We are very worried. The skin condition ended up not being bacterial after all. Thanks for all info you can give us. ## I was put on it when i was pregnant with my son back in 2005. I was told to take it up to my delivery that it would be fine for the baby. He is going to be 5 in February and he is just fine and has no signs of anything wrong. ## Yes, according to the FDA reports, it has no known harmful effects on the fetus and is considered safe for use during pre...

i have some keflex left over from an infection my husband had but i take methadone 10mg tablets 3 -3 times per day so 90 mg. daily for back pain can i take the keflex 500mg. for my toothache i can't see my dentist till tuesday this is friday would like to try to get infection under control so the pain will decrease an possibly have it removed when i see dentist on tuesday ## I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between the 2 medications, but you might want to check with a pharmacist, or doctor to be sure. Learn more Keflex details here. The main problem to worry about is the fact that you only have part of a prescription, so while it may be enough to start helping, it might not be enough to completely eradicate the infection, which could result in your developing an...

Can I substitute for keflex for amoxicillin?

I have an infection causing boils on my skin and was prescribed amoxicillin. I can fill my script but I have keflex from my girlfriend. ## It would be best to take the medication that has been prescribed for you, sometimes a specific antibiotic is required. The FDA warns that Amoxicillin may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Are you on any other medications?

In between 4-5hrs gas forming in stomach and doing loose motion no pain. It started one month before while I taken antibiotic ( kalvox 1g & serodase 5mg) for tooth infection which was doctor prescribed. Medicine has stopped after 5days course still stomach problem is continuing . Please suggest a solution ## Did you mean Keflex? It contains the active ingredient Cephalexin, and is used to treat, or prevent various types of bacterial infections. The NIH does warn that diarrhea/loose motions, can be a normal side effect, which may linger for a week, or so, after you finish the medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

False positive drug test for benzos

I'm on probation and went in to take my random U/A yesterday. I thought I had nothing to worry about cause I don't do drugs. The dipstick test came back positive for benzos and they said they are sending it to the lab. I am currently taking cephlaxin (keflex) bactrim ds and tramadol. I read that the bactrim can cause a false positive. When it goes to the lab will they see that there aren't benzos in my system? I'm kinda freaking out. ## I'm on probation can I take metformin and A a anabiotic with that and it said that I job positive for benzo and I just want to know if I got anything to worry about because I don't do drugs I don't like taking pills I bet you like taking the medication that I have but since I'm diabetic and I have a infection in my chest I...

emptying medicine from capsules..

Does anyone know if it is okay to empty the medicine out of a 500 mg capsule and take it alone in a spoon? My husband cannot swallow capsules and he failed to ask the pharmacist for a liquid form of the medication. ## I too have trouble swallowing any pills--I just put them in a teaspoon of applesauce and they go right down ! ## That is okay to do, as long as it is not a time released medication, and there are not other warnings telling you that you shouldn't do so. This is an antibiotic, and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?

keflex ibs nightmare

I took keflex for a week after bunion surgery. I lost 40 percent of my hair. It was an all over thinning. It receded in my temples. While it was falling out, it felt like someone took a blow torch to my head. I was then pressured into to trying mobic. The hair loss hadn't started yet. Takes a couple months. Anyway, as soon as I took it, I was a mess. I now have IBS D and C. It's horrible. I had no idea this could happen. My life is ruined! Perscription doesn't warn you, doctor doesn't either. I won't go into the side effects. There's way to many! I'm getting a lawyer! If you look up the side effects online, it doesn't warn you there either. Unless you specifically type in hair loss, or IBS from keflex or mobic. Can't cure it either. You can treat with...

Reducing the dose of keflex

I was prescribed keflex 500mg 4 times a day for a week for a tooth infection but it makes me tired and feel funny can i reduce the dosages to 2 a day ## Hello, Nene! How are you? I'm very sorry about how you're feeling. However, all medications carry the risk of causing side effects. As listed by the FDA, along with drowsiness, you may experience dizziness, nausea, headache, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash. You should take it as prescribed by your doctor, because while these side effects may be annoying for now, there is a risk of death due to the infection, if it's left to continue out of control. Alternatively, by lowering your dose, you create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. If you really don't like taking this one, the best thing to do ...

Is Pota-Vi-Kin and Keflex(Cephalexin) similar in preventing an infection

Going to the dentist tomorrow for teeth cleaning, and in the past have taken Kefex( Cephalexin ) 2000mg to prevent any chance of an infection. I am currently near the Mexican border, and have excess to a penicillin called Pota-Vi-Kin. Will this be as effective? ## They are both antibiotics that are used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. But you should take the one that your doctor, or dentist feels is best for you. Why do you usually take one? Do you have a heart condition? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, and non-allergic skin rash.

Keflex Uses

I have a horrendous toothache. I have some left over keflex and want to kow if I should take it? If I do and run out, will my dentist give me more, and will it be effective? ## i would like to know if keflex can be taken by a person who is alergic to sulfa drugs ## Keflex is an antibiotic so it will fight an infection if there is one BUT if not then your tooth ache will not subside. If you have a refill on it then yes you can get more otherwise your doctor/dentist may want to just evaluate your situation and then he can decide whether or not you need something more then just a quick fix ## I would like to know if Keflex will help with a toothache, they are 500mg, how should i take them? ## 1. The physician suspects he has developed an infection at his surgical site. He prescribes Keflex 5...

Sunlight Exposure while taking keflex

I am very active and exposed to sunlight everyday. Do I need to keep inside and avoid the sun during the 7 days that keflex has been prescribed to me? ## Avoidance is probably not necessary, but you will want to use a sun block and make sure to keep hydrated and avoid overheating. ## I agree with Verwon, it is okay to be in the sun while taking Keflex (active ingredient Cephalexin). There are other antibiotics which will make you more sensitive to sunlight but this is not one of them. I checked with both Medline Plus and the NIH, and nowhere did it mention such an issue.

Keflex - Leg Muscle weakness for 10 months and counting

I took 500mg Keflex for 28 days for a cyst back in September 2013. The cyst did not respond so I was sent to an infectious disease doctor who said I had P. Mirabilis infection and he changed my antibiotic (That one didn't work either). Long story short.. during the use of the Keflex my leg muscles became very weak and sore. They are still weak and sore and getting worse. I told my doctor the backs of my legs felt so tight like the muscles were stretched too far like rubber bands. He didn't seem to care or think anything of it. So now here we are 10 months later, I still have the stupid cyst or P. mirabilis whatever and my legs are so sore I can barely walk. It hurts so bad to get up after I have been sitting for even just 5 minutes. ## Hello, Dizzy! How are you? If you still hav...

1 to 2 Keflex every 4 hours

Is Keflex (Cephalexin) in the same family as Mexapin? Can I take Mexapin if I'm allergic to Keflex? ## They are different antibiotics, but that doesn't guarantee that you won't find more that you are allergic to, that's the way it tends to work, those who are allergic to one, or more medications, usually discover more that cause allergic reactions. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Keflex for anal fissure infection

My wife has an ongoing anal fissure since giving birth but recently it has become infected. We have an unfulfilled KEFLEX script and I was wondering if this would work for this type of infection. Thanks in advance ## Hello, Duncan! How is your wife doing? It really depends on the severity of the infection and the type of bacteria that has caused it, so she should take whatever antibiotic her doctor deems appropriate. The NIH lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. ## Thanks so much - she is doing fine thank you and it seems the Keflex worked - very grateful indeed - have a great day

Keflex tooth infection

I have a tooth infection and have been on keflex 500 4x a day for 2 days. My question is how long until I get pain and swelling relief? ## Hi Nancy you should start to feel some measurable relief within the first seventy-two to ninety-six hours It is essential that you complete the entire course of the treatment for the infection to be totally resolved .... Hope you're feeling better soon. Kenie. ## I am in so much pain I think I'm Litterally going crazy. Can't eat. Sleep, tried Tylenol advil motrin garlic, salt water rinse, cloves, oil of oregano and even vodka. Pretty much ready to lose it and pull the effing tooth out myself.

keflex false positive drug test

Will taking cephalexin 500 4 times a day for 7 days show up as a positive in a drug test? Will be taking drug test 3 weeks after finishing meds ## Will the antibiotic reflex show a "false positive" drug screen? ## I recently took a drug test that was a dip stick put in my pee and I was taking keflex, ibuprofen, lamotragen, clonodine, resperidone and the test came back that I had benzodiazepines in it and none of my meds are benzodiazepines the only thing that would give a false reading would be the keflex I was pissed. So they didn't believe me until a couple days later when they sent it off to the lab when it came back negative for benzodiazepines and still they don't think that it was the keflex that caused it. Unbelievable!

antibiotics that start with k

Doing a lab for highschool about recombinant DNA, learning about taking the insulin gene from human DNA and inserting it into bacteria plasmids to mass-produce insulin. The plasmid had a gene for antibiotic resistance, there were three different types of antibiotics listed and the plasmid we were working with was resistant to one starting with a k, but I can't find it's name. ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? Was it possibly Keflex? It's a name brand for the antibiotic Cephalexin. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allerigc skin rash and diarrhea. ## Yes, thank you so much! That was one of the three.

keflex false positive drug test please help

I am taking sulfamethoxazole and cephalexin for staph infection. I just recently took a urine test for my suboxone doctor and got a call to come in to speak with them about my urine. I have been clean for 8 months and have only been taking my suboxone. Is it possible that the antibiotics caused a false positive for something? I am very worried.
