Purbac, is it safe as an Acne treatment?

My son has just turned 13 and has developed, what I thought, were only zits on his forehead, however our family doctor says he is developing Acne and has prescribed Purbac. I am a little concerned as I do not like anti-biotics...does anyone have any info or side effects of this drug? ## Purbac is a combination antibiotic containing Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. I was put on this drug for upper respiratory infection and had a horrible reaction to it. It is almost 6 months now and I am still fighting sores all over my mouth and tongue.
