Diet / Weight Loss Overview

Dieting is the practice of eating food in a regulated and supervised fashion to decrease, maintain, or increase body weight. In other words, it is conscious control or restriction of the diet. A restricted diet is often used by those who are overweight or obese, sometimes in combination with physical exercise, to reduce body weight. Some people follow a diet to gain weight (usually in the form of muscle). Diets can also be used to maintain a stable body weight and improve health. In particula...

contrave and sleepiness
64 Replies RSS Share
I started contrave 4 days ago, today being my 5th dose. every day, i take the pill about 8am and by 9:30-10am I am so sleepy I can't stand it. Days 1 and 2 I managed to fight it off until about 12-12:30, day 3 until about 1-1:30, and day 4 I fought it off until 3pm. If I take a 1-2 hour nap, I wake up fine, with energy and then cannot get to sleep until about 2am, sometimes 3am. Today is day 5, I'm having that "drunk" feeling and sleepy, but no where near how it has been. It seems this effect is slowly wearing off, but I haven't seen anywhere where this is a common side effect. I know all medications effect everyone differently, so I'm wondering if this is something I should be concerned about, or just another side effect that I will get used to as the weeks go o...

Althea Pill

I am taking althea pills and i wrongly took the pill which is supposed to be taken lastly. I took the one which is for tuesday instead of saturday. ## is althea can help you lose weight and balance your hormones..I am 40 years old and I feel like I gain weight so fast now.. ## Candice, from what I am finding, all Althea pills contain the same ingredients, so it actually doesn't matter which pill you take, as long as you haven't missed any, you will still be protected against pregnancy. Just continue taking them, as normal, adjusting by a day and you should be fine. Roxanne, it can help balance your hormones, but they are not used for weight loss. The only way they will help is if your weight increase has been purely do to a hormonal issue. Have you consulted a doctor? Is there a...

Splitting Contrave Pills
3 Replies RSS Share
I just started Contrave last Friday. I have really had no side effects, but because I have a narrowed esophagus, I have trouble swallowing the pill (it gets stuck). I cut the pills in half and take both halves at the same time and this makes it easier for me to get them down. My question - is this messing with the efficacy of the medicine? ## No, they are regular release tablets, so that will not cause a problem with their efficacy, according to NIH reports. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, and insomnia. Are you on any other medications? ## You should not split the pills. They are an extended release tablet. This is copied from the Contrave literature: Extended-Release Tablets: 8 mg naltrexone HCl /90 mg bupropion HCl...

Contrave and cold medicine

Can cold medicine be taken with Contrave like Sudafed or Contac? Are there any side effects by taking cold medicine with it? ## It really depends on the specific cold medication, they are many available over the counter in the U.S., so I couldn't possibly research them all for you. Which one is your normal preferred choice? Can you please post back and clarify? This information would enable me to research an answer to your question. Is Contac available in the U.S., again? I know it had been removed from the market here for a number of years. The FDA warns that Contrave may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes.

Appetite returned after 6 weeks of use
2 Replies RSS Share
The first 5 weeks taking contrave I had no appetite. I dropped 24lbs in the first month and was only taking 1 pill twice a day. I just recently got a refill and it's not doing anything to decrease my appetite anymore. I upped to 3 pills a day still not working like it did the first month. Has anyone else have this same experience? If I keep taking it will it eventually decrease my appetite like before? ## This has happened to me and am looking for answers to this app can’t question. I am wondering if I got to complacent because the first few weeks seemed so easy. ## Many people have reported experiencing this, after awhile taking this medication, and the FDA does warn that it can happen. You may also experience other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irrit...

Pain control while on Contrave

I have had great success with Contrave! I feel bad for those that have had side effects and can't take it. My only question, (which my doctor could not give me an answer for) is: If in an accident, (car accident, God forbid).... what options would doctors have to control my pain if I actively taking contrave? And shoud I have some type of health notice in my billfold stating that I am taking this prescription? ## It is always a good idea to keep a list of your current medications, and medical conditions with you, in case of emergency. So, that is an idea you can't go wrong with, better safe than sorry. First responders can help you more, if they know what medications you are on and what medical conditions you are diagnosed with. Though normal doses of opiates may not work, while...

contrave and surgery 911

I was taking only 2 contrave pills in the morning for a couple of months. My last dosage was yesterday which was Monday. I'm having cosmetic surgery in two days which is Thursday. Is it safe to have surgery? I wasn't aware of any dangers with Contrave & surgery. I wasn't on this medication when I initially had my consult. Please help.. I'm worried. ## Has your surgeon provided any instructions regarding medications you should not take, before your surgery? Due to the Naltrexone in Contrave, some pain medications may not work for you, it usually takes about 3 days, after stopping the medication, for them to work, again. The FDA warns that this medication may cause other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and anorexia.
