Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 15)

Updated

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Sorry for all your troubles! I am having the same issues, received prolia in April and have been having issues ever since. Lost tons of hair which as you know is very upsetting. Have seen every specialist to figure out why and have become sick with trying to determine if hormonal or whatever. Also, have developed cysts which I didn’t have before. Horrible drug, trying to flush it out of my body with lots of water. Don’t think that will help. Never taking it EVER.

This response is 4 years after the initial message, so I don't know if you were able to remedy the hair loss problem. I started losing hair 2 weeks after the injection. Taking advice from someone on this site, I went to my dermatologist who said I had an aggressive rash in my scalp. We treated it with a steroid gel applied twice per day. The rash is mostly gone and the hair loss has slowed, but there is a definite patch gone...I dont know if it will come back. Prolia does cause rashes so maybe that is the cause of the hair loss.

I had 4 injection of Prolia and my hair started thinning and falling told my Dr and she said it wasn't true, 2 weeks later I got the bill from insurance and it said something about chemotherapy I was like what the heck is this about I told the Dr and she said yes is true it's use for certain cancer. I stopped having Prolia and I never been back to that Dr. Taking calcium and vitamin D alternative medicine. Sorry if anyone is taking it good for you pray it always work. No way Jose for me.

No way Jose for me either. I truly believe it led to my hearing loss by weakening my immune system. I'm so mad I listened to my doctor on this. My hair has not returned to it's former glory and hardly grows. My last shot was March, 2015. I only had 2 injections of Prolia.

Have you tried CBD oil for your hair? You take it orally. I just started. Hope it works. I had a shot of Prolia and my hair was falling out. I’ll not take another one.

I know when I posted this message and till this day my hair (what is left) is very thin, no more fullness. Now I take vitamins and I feel much better. I just want ladies to know. I'm glad it works for some in this chat but not for many of us...

I stopped the Prolia shots after I noticed the extreme hair loss and the floors looked like we had a dog. It was all my hair. I stopped on my own and read after that not to do that and that you must remain on it forever once started! NO WAY! The doctors like that money flow and I think it is criminal what has gone on with this drug. I have had a lot of problems with pain since I stopped. I continue to ride my bike every night because of my diabetes. I am 74 years old and to think that these shots may have caused health problems for me is maddening. Ladies, do not get this shot EVER!

Re: Julie (# 279) Expand Referenced Message

Is there any way we can get a count of the people on this site who have lost hair after taking Prolia? Some of us have reported individually to Amgen and our doctors, but numbers might speak with more volume. I would put the time in to count people if I knew how to wade through all of the messages and the different threads. Also I don't know if permission would have to be granted to count even if names were not used. What do you think???

Re: Karen (# 289) Expand Referenced Message

I have only received 2 Prolia shots. I had hair loss, jaw problems, oral surgeries, pain in back, arms, legs, migraines, I have had all my teeth removed, also a second surgery (been going through that over a year now). My doctor was the one that decided to stop the Prolia as it was doing too much to my body. My red blood count is too high, my white blood count is way too high. I don't know when Prolia will ever get out of my system. I am in severe pain a lot. Very few days that I am not. They need to take it off the market. It's not good. I have been sick ever since I took the first shot. My gums will not heal, I have had cataract surgery in January and I am still fighting inflammation in my right eye. Nothing will heal. I feel bad for everyone else
with problems too. If I had to do it over again I would have refused the shot. If I would have known about this forum beforehand and heard about everyone else's hardships and health problems just from taking the Prolia shot, I'd take citracal. Eating well is the best way to do it and getting exercise keep your muscles working. Don't let them get weak. I would like to get an attorney and file a legal suit against the company making Prolia. It's all about the money. It does not matter what it does to us... for those that it has helped which I am sure has been very few people. I am only 57 years old. This started 12 years ago with numerous fractures and I am sure there are more things going on with my body, but I am not putting myself through any more tests. Good luck and God bless to everyone!

Re: Lizzie (# 290) Expand Referenced Message

Amgen have so much money they can pay lawyers to drag any case brought against them. I have written several letters to the U.K. division and the replies are always deny, deny, deny and use the 'we were approved' message. The Consultant dermatologist i saw for my total hair loss informed me that 1% was the known amount of people who had hair loss. Considering there are probably millions of people having this drug throughout the world (my daughter saw huge billboard adverts for the drug in Hong Kong) there has to be thousands and thousands of people who are suffering, not just the hair loss but all the devastating side effects that have ruined so many lives. My life and body fell apart about 7 days after the first shot of Prolia and now 11 months later I am still badly affected, but my hair is growing back very slowly and hopefully in a few months I can ditch the wigs I had to buy. If only doctors and consultants recorded the problems and stopped recommending the drug maybe something would be done.

Re: Sad lady (# 295) Expand Referenced Message

Statistics are so squirrely. One percent of how many? One percent of which population. "Researchers" can skew things any way they want. I think a lot more than one percent of those on this who respond to this site report having hair loss plus physically debilitating side effects...

Yes I did. I originally posted last year that my hair was falling out by handfuls and I was losing weight without trying. I refused another shot.
Well then good news is my hair is now growing back and my weight is back to normal and I feel strong again. Very impressed to me as I ride horses!
