Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 14)

Updated

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Re: Bubbles (# 254) Expand Referenced Message

I have the same problem with hair falling out with roots attached. Am hoping my dermatologist can help. .No bald patches yet but my hair has really thinned out. I don't think we grow new roots.. it is really upsetting.

Re: Lizzie (# 261) Expand Referenced Message

I lost nearly all my hair last year after the first and ONLY Prolia injection. My hair is now growing again, a different texture and of course a different colour , but my consultant tells me that after this funny hair ! It will return to normal hair. It is quite strong and does not come out when brushed,so there is hope for you .

It’s not listed anywhere. That’s why we are all commenting.

Re: Sad lady (# 262) Expand Referenced Message

I didn't lose all my hair, but it broke off and just quit growing. After 3 years it still is growing at a snail's pace. I had hair about 2 inches above my waist and now it is just above my bra strap in back at the longest point. I would just cut it short and let it grow out, but I'm 70 and it will take forever...like 10 years to grow back to the former length...and I might be dead by then. I want my hair long, so I'm suffering through with it like it is. I use a hot hairbrush to smooth the short parts in with the longer part. It looks ok that way, but not like it should have been if I had not taken Prolia.

Sorry I must have misread.. I thought one of the comments said that hair loss side effect was buried in the back of a pamphlet.

Re: Lizzie (# 266) Expand Referenced Message

Amgen absolutely deny that Prolia causes hair loss. I have a letter from them confirming this. Of course it is utter rubbish and we all know that Prolia does cause massive hair loss in many cases , but they fear the loss of dollars and pounds more than the welfare of a recepient of this poison. With all the other side effects I wonder how it was ever passed as fit to give to human beings . But as usual money talks .

Re: Sad lady (# 267) Expand Referenced Message

Well, let's start at the beginning. Amgen sent mice into space to see what happened to mice in space with Prolia. What would this prove? - Don't have a clue. Secondly, tested on humans for 11 months. What the heck happens after 11 months? During the 11 month period they came up with lots and lots of bad side effects. Has Amgen added side effects since then? NO! All they do is deny, deny, deny. It is also supposed to be used ONLY when ALL OTHERS have FAILED. This fact does not seem to resonate well with our medical community because they reach for it first instead of last. Only class action suit as of now is the broken femur for absolutely no reason at all. And lastly, when one STOPS Prolia, you will have a break in one of your vertebra in your back. Facts straight from Amgen and yes I got it too. Hope this little missive answers your questions. Be well~

Re: Yana (# 268) Expand Referenced Message

I stopped Prolia after the first injection as I had so many side effects and very bad ones. My consultant agreed that I should stop after he saw the damage it had caused, and he eventually believed me when I told him it was Prolia, and nothing else. Amgen will deny it as it means big dollars and profits and the damage it does to people’s lives seems not to matter. I just wish there was a court case against them that we could all join. It is the only way they will rewrite the side effects to include the many dreadful effects that are not listed.

Re: Bubbles (# 253) Expand Referenced Message

I went to see my dermatologist re: the hair loss. I am not yet coming out in clumps but am rapidly losing strands and have thinned out considerably. The dermatologist said there was a rash all over my scalp (probably why I have been ITCHING so badly). So we are treating the scalp problem..too soon to know if this will somehow halt or slow down the hair loss. In a way it makes sense. Prolia does cause rashes so maybe this scalp rash (infection?) is one of them and that is related to the hair loss. Just a theory (mine, not the doc's).... straws to grasp... I never had any kind of scalp problems before and this started two weeks after Prolia inj.

Re: Lizzie (# 273) Expand Referenced Message

I don't think I had a rash on my scalp. I color my hair, so my scalp is always itchy in places, but I didn't notice more itching than usual....just thinning, breakage and a lot of hair coming out when I washed it. The damage seems to have slowed, but it still isn't growing as much as it used to...3 years after stopping Prolia.

Re: Yana (# 268) Expand Referenced Message

You need to get into a Rheumatologist for Prednisone for those nasty rashes that it causes. Secondly, for the pain - a Rheumatologist can order pain meds and there are also specialty PAIN Doctors that Rx them. You should work with a Rheumatologist in concert with an Immunologist to get the most help possible. I've been down this road for many years and still have problems cropping up such as muscle spasms and my hair is falling out badly. Only a Dermatologist can tell you if your hair is capable of growing or not. In the back pages I posted supplements we can take to help the hair grow if one can tolerate them. I could not. Muscle pain is stopped with Magnesium and you have to be very careful with it or you will have diarrhea. This last bottle of 250mg I bought from Walmart seems to be okay. I do not color my hair now at all and wash it the least amount possible. I keep it short and use a lot of volumizing mousse on it with NO hot air hair dryer. Hope this helps you a little.e Be well~

Re: Barbra (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Barbra. I advise you to stop Prolia injections immediately. I myself had no major symptoms but lost all my hair at once in a period of two weeks. That happened after my fourth injection. I had no hair loss after the first, second or third injection. It all happened at once. I AM COMPLETELY BALD. This is a TRUE comment and please let many others know about PROLIA. I also stop visits to my endocrinologist. By the way, Reclast year injection will affect your kidneys.

Yes I heard about a lawsuit called "class lawsuit" where many unsatisfied patients may come together and file a lawsuit. So let's do it. I'm devastated and furious for my hair loss.

Re: Sad lady (# 267) Expand Referenced Message

Sad lady, I agree with you that money talks, everywhere, all the time. Money buys justice, money covers every wrongdoing unfortunately. It is sooo sad that people are paying the price. We must fight to have AMGEN admit their wrongdoing and show us where HAIR LOSS is mentioned in the side effects.

Re: Julie (# 279) Expand Referenced Message

I was informed by Amgen that during the trials of Prolia only people who were given the placebo lost their hair!!! And they actually want me to believe that. I am one of thousands of people affected by hair loss through Prolia and not a placebo. I am also still suffering from other debilitating side effects after nearly 10 months. What I found so distressing was that they were not even interested in finding out more details about my past medical history and how and why Prolia had such a dreadful effect. They just dismissed it as Prolia not being the cause. I try to warn as many people as possible so that they seriously consider whether it is worth all the misery and life changing effects it may have on their life.
