Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 128) (Top voted first)

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Jimbo — You're right. I'm relatively new and only on occasion do I write for Inderal for "stage fright." I'm also biased, a "whole bunch a" my immediately family members, including one damned good cardiologist, are on beta-blockers wit no untoward effects that I am recall. I HAVE treated patients who were CNS reducers and needed, say, 2.5mg of Valium to my my 10mg (I have the OTHER thing, which I am embarrassed to say I can't recall, but it means I need more CNS drugs than the average patient. SAVE THIS POST! DOC ADMITS HE DOESN"T KNOW SOMETHING!). I hate to disparage Fps and Internists, but sometimes when they're prescribing say, six drugs to a new or newer patient, only the most serious possible adverse reactions crate a mention. One of the reasons we have a NP - PSY in our office is to review meds, answer questions ands, frankly, catch errors. She has the Prescriptive Privilege and she can write for anything I can. I don't think we do it again, but we ALL should ask if "you ever take any meds that caused a stronger reaction or side effectuate you thought they would?". I dead; with this CNS REDUCER-AUGMENTER issue (I remembered!) all the time, but didn't do my due diligence — logical extension to other drug families.

And in what way was my post incorrect? I can't take responsibility for this Civil War-era message board and all my statements of medication are accurate. More to the point, why don't see see people posting that, "I saw my Internist and he..." or "My cardiologist ask if I reduced the dose on my own." Does every pill bottle have to having a giant "C-II" superimposed on the wraparound label for folks to get the hint that LOTS OF DRUGS can have serious adverse reactions if patients decide to "play doctor". My sister called me and asked about reducing her Tenormin (Atenolol). I was about 99% sure of the correct answer. but I called thefts cardiologist I know who treats HER — and we discussed a few points and he suggested a small reduction for now. We're BOTH docs and my recommendation probably would be a little more "radical," but HE's the BEST office cardiologist in two large counties, so I told him up on his offer to call my sister, since she can be very argumentative and the lead argument always is "This isn't your specialty."

Could be. Even in the last 10 years, our choice of effective, safe antidepressants has expanded. Since we know the diagnosis, find a shrink who specializes in psychopharmacology. As far as I know, we have no Board-certified Specialty in PP, but most doctors listed on their professional cards as doing psychopharmacology have some advanced training. I have a PhD in Pharmacology, but that's NOT necessary to select and prescribe antidepressants (and possibly mood stabilizers, etc.) safely and efficaciously.

Any first-year medical student can tell you that beta-blockers need to be TAPERED. Hey, I'm a shrink and I know this. Your doctor is a ***** and that's my professional opinion. THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR IGNORANCE. There are plenty of accessible (some healthcare professional only) to find this information. If reworked for me, I"d fire him for "Gross Negligence in the Practice of the Profession." Real MALPRACTICE often has an explanation or mitigating circumstances. STUPIDITY AND IGNORANCE MAKE NO VALID EXCUSE FOR THIS? I see so many of these posts. Are you all going tontine- stupid doctors, or what?

My latest symptom is restless leg syndrome, which can be brought on by anxiety. I have had it before, but it had nothing to do with anxiety, more likely dehydration and overdoing chores like blowing leaves with a heavy leaf blower walking up hill.

I was on 25 mg of metoprolol for about a week before I stopped and the after effects are terrible. Dizzy when I stand and weak/tired. I've been off for about two weeks. Anyone had the same experience? If so, how long before I feel normal again? Doctor put me on this because I had frequent PVC'S ... 57,000 in a 48 hour period.
By the way, google wifi EMF and heart irregularities. I had my cable router about two feet from my chest for several years. Take an old radio and sat it in front of your router and watch it just about blow up from the EMF waves!

Matt, I am 15 months off and have terrible asthma and never had it before. Its annoying. I have no energy. Also get a high heart rate when I bend over to clean or walk too much. The kicker..I was only on it for a year and a half. I couldnt imagine 20 years! My anxiety is terrible too.

I was only on it for a week, but I was breaking the pills in half, make sure that you taper off, and then I started taking magnesium citrate to help my heart regulate better this helped me I hope it helps you shalom

Has anyone developed hand tremors while withdrawing from Metaprolol Tartrate.?

I have been taking Metaprolol Tartrate (100 mg once daily) for the past two years with no side effects. Previously took Toprol. I have CAD, had a triple bypass 7 years ago and all my vitals are fine today. I also take Losartan and generic Lipitor (80 mg). My average blood pressure is 115/75 and my resting heart rate is in the 50's. I am a 75 year old man, exercise regularly (walk 2-3 miles a day) and my diet is healthy. My cardiologist approved my weaning off Metaprolol.

Three weeks ago, I started taking 50 mg 2x daily. This week I cut back to 50mg once a day. Two weeks ago I started getting hand tremors. They have gotten worse each day. I have no other symptoms or side effects. My BP is still in my normal range.

Anyone have an answer or suggestions, other than seeing a neurologist ?

Your situation sounds like mine. heres my history in a nutshell. On Jan 28th 2014 I had an afib episode, went to emergency & was cardioverted. I had been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea prior. Got put on Metoporolol 25 2x a day. took a few weeks to get used too. then I got my Cpap. Its working great..Did the stess test, heart was good, did the echocardiogram, heart looks good. I think the cpap is working. with all the good results I asked my dr,(who seems not to give a crap about seeing me btw) why if everything is good am I on these meds. She then said I can ween off of the Metoprolol. half 2x a day for 7 days then half of 1 a day for another 7. I have yet to do that. Im a lil scared of side effect s or having another afib episode. How is your progress? Id like these docs to figure out wtf I have afib in the first place. Hoping its the sleep apnea which I been treating. Peace

Stay away from proton pump inhibitors! They are very dangerous long term!!! Don't be taking people's advice on here unless you know they are a qualified medical expert! There's a lot of people that think they know it all! Always consult with a medical professional!

Cardiology is based on physical medicine (surgery) and pharmacological interventions, along with adjunct alternative treatments. His vitae looks good on paper. Good physicians don't attempt sell you products — for any reason other than lack of availability in general, and that usually only applies to Controlled Substances, and we usually can't get "shortage" medicines any more easily than your local pharmacist, so that leaves legit MDs/DOs out of that game. Derms do sometimes sell hard to find hair vitamins, but I never met one who tried to talk me out of a script for Retin-A in favor of buying something he had for sale. They usually only carry a few products aimed as hair loss prevention and, from what I see, women buy them much more frequently than men. Sometimes they also have for sale some especially good OTC acne preparations, although the best txs are Rx Only (except for Benzoyl Peroxide 5%). The medical community doesn't think very highly of these docs who are invested in your buying their products. f they found anything revolutionary, a major drug company would have bought the rights, did some R & D and applied to the FDA and put the product through a series of clinical trials.

I have been on lopressor two weeks 25 mg twice a day
For hb i woke up having feeling shaky and depressed,edgy. I also take Zoloft and clonzapam for ten years for depression . I will stop taking lopressor will it take long to wear off.
