Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 48)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

The only pill that worked for me too & if it’s not made by Shire, it is a generic! Too bad I could no longer afford the medication. I was switched to Ritalin 20 mg, 3/day and after 7 maths on it, it’s the closest to Shire’s Adderall XR that I’ve had yet. Very inexpensive & minimal side effects, if any. so, think I’ll stay here for the time being.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Hi. I’ve never ever heard this explanation regarding the differences from one generic manufacturer to the other.. i’m just curious where did you obtain this information? It seems to make sense though regarding why some work better than the others. Thank you

I just received the teva brand off Adderall ir last week as I decided to use ir for a month or 2 so I could take a break from the Adderall XR name brand that I normally take. This was a big mistake! The last time I got ir I got some new generic that are a lighter color and start with an L those were decent. This time my CVS didn't have them in stock at all so I had to go to rite aid and I got the old orange teva ones that were good year's and year's ago. This time I got so sick from these things it's unreal! They don't do anything positive all they do is make me feel awful and depressed as well as make me nauseous. I didn't think they could make these worse but they did! I called my doctor after 2 days and told him what was going on and he agreed to ok my normal XR script fill for next week. Thank God I don't have to take these poison pills all month but I do have to wait another 5 days before I can get my name brand XR again. The tevas are worse than useless now. I wouldn't advise anyone I know to use them ever again.

Re: SJ (# 940) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, SJ. I’m sorry you still aren’t finding relief. I’m okay with the current Teva brand. I’ve stopped taking 25 mgs 2x/day and am using less. I make sure I eat well before taking in the morning and take less than prescribed in the afternoon. I’m thinking of switching to Ritalin to see what that is like next month which I believe my doctor will prescribe. I have been using the regular and not the XR. Take care and good luck moving forward.

Generic meds have gotten awful the past 7 years and is nowhere near as good as it was before. These companies have changed the pills and must be using cheaper raw material. I'd love to have them tested compared to the old ones and see what the difference is.

Anyone having problems with their meds, must report to the fda online or download a form to report it. Reporting it any other way, is not going produce fda reason for researching this problem! You must go here and choose your state:

David (# 908) --

Read "Bottle of Lies" by Katherine Eban. She is a well-respected journalist who spent a decade investigating the overseas generic drug market, including interviewing whistleblowers in India as well as personally seeing how any intervention by the FDA were mere wrist-slaps with no consequences. She started off as one of the many "generics are all the same, and if not the FDA has it covered" people. After what she learned (including visits to these overseas businesses, and conversations with pharma bigwigs in the US and abroad), she will never take a generic medication again.

Many of the people on this board are middle-aged or older, with advanced degrees, lucrative careers in the past/present, and no history of abusing or misusing medications. And no one can trace this problem back more than 10-15 years, at the most 20, which was already over a decade and a half after the passage of the Waxman-Hatch Act. Therefore, this is neither a blanket nocebo-affect caused suspicion of generic drugs in general nor a bunch of pharmaceutically-illiterate youthful drug abusers out for kicks who can't tell the difference between decreased "high" due to drug tolerance with lack of efficacy on previously controlled symptoms/paradoxical reactions/iatrogenic harm.

What about the patents, found on the internet for all to see, that describe new excipients added to scheduled drugs to "deter abuse using altered bioavailability"? What about bizarre lists of supposed "inactive ingredients" (easily viewed on Daily Med) in generics launched in the 21st century under ANDAs (abbreviated new drug applications), some numbering up to 30, when the original on-patent drug, first manufactured in the mid to late 20th century, had far less? Why is this brand version, now decades past patent, more than ten times the cost of a monthly prescription for the generic, and why is it so impossible to procure it?

The attitude of "who cares? Just go smoke some cannabis" does not help those struggling with health problems that were kept in check for decades with quality-controlled medications, by doctors who could do their job while the DEA stayed in their own lane. Now, you see situations where 85 year olds are told that if edible cannabis brownies don't take away their pain, they're disgusting junkies. And if they don't like the way cannabis makes them feel, find a different strain/dispensary/ "budtender"/percentage etc etc etc because cannabis cures everything. I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone mixed with an Orwellian/Huxleyan dystopia: "We were always at war with prescribing painkillers for pain.", "painkillers don't work on pain, Big Brother Cannabis always does and doesn't ever cause adverse mental health effects or decrease motivation", "Anti-psychotics are awesome for the occasional panic attack or brief stress-related insomnia, taking a couple of Xanax a month for panic or insomnia is automatic addiction even if you haven't asked for more than two a month for 7 years! Antipsychotics are far better and you can use them even for slight anxiety too! They're the all-purpose mental health drug, like marijuana is the ultimate drug for any physical OR mental conditions! !!!" "Chemotherapy and similar immunosuppressive drugs aren't just for cancer anymore, let's give them to people with acne! autism! IBS!!!"

And I'm sure this has NOTHING to do with the fact that opiates and benzodiazepines are dirt cheap and off-patent, while the constant slew of "take this for any mental health issue not just psychosis" AAPs, biologics for any and all "chronic complaints...or illness, whatever" biologics are pricey as hell, as is the taxed and now legal "mellow weeeeed, maaaan". (Sarcasm).

Just like I'm sure that the forecasted to increase exponentially (W.H.O. quote) cases of chronic illness (particularly among young people), cancer, pain syndromes, and mental illness has NOTHING to do with environmental toxins (Sarcasm).

Between being in la-la land on cannabis and practically catatonic on antipsychotics, those affected with these maladies may not have less symptoms or a better quality of life, but they will have less ability to try to better their condition. Doctors won't have to read the DEA anymore, the cannabis industry doesn't have to yammer about "Big pharma" anymore because both sides are making money, and Milennials can think the whole thing is "kek"...until they age a bit, start to get sick, and realize that the pain from Stage IV cancer is not obliterated by their precious OG Kush. And that anti-psychotic caused akathisia isn't very fun, no matter how much they reminisce about their beloved rap stars' odes to (promethazine as one ingredient) "sizzurp".

SJ (# 935) --

Absolute proof that there is either no/very little amphetamine in your medication or there is something else in the pills altering the effect of the mixed amphetamine salts. Weight gain and/or increased hunger is the opposite of what happens in amphetamine. Anyone else experience this? I got the unbearable increased hunger on TEVA IR recently (no such thing on brand name by Shire, which is sadly gone) but thankfully no weight gain.

I am on 20mg twice a day Adderall made by BARR manufacture I get from my Frys pharmacy. I have been having nothing but terrible side effects. Headache everyday, blurred vision, head fog, no help with concentration. These TEVA/BARR pills are not what they are suppose to be. Lately I have been feeling like they aren’t working at all just feeling the side effects. I have never had these terrible side effects being on adderall in the past. I don’t understand how they are such a popular generic, I have a two month supply of these generic pills that are making me more frustrated with my ADHD than without medication. I need to find a Pharmacy that carries a pill that actually helps like it use to. Does anyone recommend or know where to go to not end up with these TEVA/BARR pills again. Thanks so much!

I use to take Zydus manufacturer for my adderall script, but it’s hit or miss if my pharmacy ends up getting them. I never had any bad effects from Zydus, it was the first and only manufacturer I use to use over a year ago until I took a break from my script. Now stuck with these Teva/Barr pills it’s such a disappointment not being able to function when taking these. I literally feel no benefits like I should, it’s the most frustrating feeling!

I am with you, they are bad if I've been off them for a few days (which makes me feel really lousy) they will work the 1st 2 days. But, honestly, I don't know why I take them except I keep hoping they will work. I've been on 5 daily 20 mg for 8 yrs. The best I ever took was yrs ago and they were Sandoz, apparently are not made anymore. I'd like if the DEA would read the comments on this site from all of us.

Re: Bobby (# 944) --

I have the exact same experience with orange Teva pills (IR 15mg). I tried them for several months and was nauseated, gained 10 pounds (subsequently lost it), and was for some reason extra bloated (beyond what the weight gain would suggest) on a daily basis. To boot, they did very little to help..

Hi

First and foremost, I am not a Dr, , work for a pharmaceutical company or some sort of drug company lobbyist....just a patient who is prescribed a stimulant for my adult ADD (have had it all my life.).

I have been "playing" the generics game with my Doc for almost 6 years with varying degrees of success.

First it was the Corepharma. It worked great for a while..then they messed with the formula..and boom...out of business.

Then it was Teva Brand. A offshoot of the generic. Worked well. Unfortunately, insurance companies saw some shady stuff with Teva producing the "brand" - and the generic...fox guarding Hen house.

Then it was Mylan, Sun, Mallinckrodt and then Aurobindo. Talk about inconsistency !

Finally, I tried the 30mg Adderall XR BRAND by Shire. At first, not so impressed as it was different in come up - slow and COST.

Well, its now been 3 more years and I accept ( and my Doc) nothing other than Adderall XR Brand by Shire,/30 mg.

Yes, my co-pay is pretty step but you will never worry again what is in the med. It works.

Good luck.

Hambone

Re: James (# 951) Expand Referenced Message

I agree. I will go without before I will take Aurobindo. The one with the M on it was so weak I would have to take a double dose, and I am tiny and super sensitive to medication so it’s not a tolerance. It was just those.
I don’t mind the Teva. They don’t make me feel ill like the Auro brands.

Some are blanks - most generics are made in China.

It's no longer Teva/Barr.. it's now Teva/Elite and the pills look almost exactly alike except they are lighter in color and the imprint went from b973, b974 to e505, e506.
They don't work at all like the Teva/Barr ones did. They aren't as bad as say Mallinkrodt (white ones with an m) or whatever but they certainly don't work as good.
