Hepatitis Overview

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver tissue.[3] Some people have no symptoms whereas others develop yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes, poor appetite, vomiting, tiredness, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.[1][2] Hepatitis may be temporary (acute) or long term (chronic) depending on whether it lasts for less than or more than six months.[5][1] Acute hepatitis can sometimes resolve on its own, progress to chronic hepatitis, or rarely result in acute liver failure.[6] Over time...

terrible easy bruising after harvoni and heart problems
1 Reply RSS
I had a 12 week course of Harvoni for Hep C (following a car accident in 1996)...my Hep C was found then (jaundice and then testing)...liver enzymes returned to normal after a few months and I was told to wait to treat, that eventually there will be something better than interferon... I waited and was trilled with the Harvoni results, mild side effects; but, about 3-4 months after Harvoni, I started having terrible easy bruising in my shins, lower legs and I developed ventricular tachycardia and other heart problems, ended up with a defibrillator and three heart medications...I just finished treatment for a leg ulcer that developed from a bruise! .... Prior to treatment with Harvoni, I had a normal echo, EKG and was roller blading several times a week...then could not even think about p...

long term side effects of harvoni
101 Replies RSS
I had Harvoni treatment last spring. I am not the same. My nervous system is a wreck. My anxiety problems have increased, depression and lack of motivation. My eyes changed drastically. My thoughts are not focused, I am nervous all the time, can focus or sleep. I had a 2 month migraine. Ringing in the ears is intense. I also was on pigalated interferon and ribivirn, I was pulled off mid treatment because I got so sick. After that treatment, I also had long term side effects. There isn't any back support for post harvoni people, nor are their anyone specializing in the after effect of long term HCV infection, it is NOT just a liver disease, it effects the nervous system and all else. I am at a loss for support with the doctors in my area, none seem to want to do any research and they...

Will Harvoni cause you to lose your appetite
4 Replies RSS
I just want to know will I lose weight while I'm on Harvoni? I don't mind but I would like to know. ## Hello, DeeDee! How are you? I didn't see it listed in the side effects provided by the FDA, but most medications do have some affect on appetite, so it's hard to say for sure. Typical side effects may possibly include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia and headache. Are you on any other medications? ## Yes, I'm a diebetic, plus I have high blood pressure. ## Most high blood pressure medications can cause weight gain. Thus, if you've found yourself gaining some, that could be why. ## I went from 124 to 116 at my last dr visit. I’ve lost my appitite a lot though. Like I’m starving at some points but it’s physically hard to make myself eat because nothing...

Has anyone experienced severe anxiety, constant crawling feeling in body after epclusa treatment. Its like my brain and body aren't working right anymore? I had terrible side effects . Finished in January, now it's June and feels like I'm still taking the poison. ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? Has there been any change? Those are not normal side effects of this medication according to recent FDA reports. They typical include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, depression, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications? Do you take any supplements? Do you drink a lot of sugary, or caffeinated beverages? ## Yes I started with hand/arm pain about a month after starting treatment. Now I am three months post treatment and the pain has now been nerve pain in my hands, lower legs, hands,...

Harvoni side effects for my wife - concerned husband
52 Replies RSS
Hi my wife has just started harvoni - about 9 days or so now - and she is getting swelling in left leg and also feels like there is pressure in her head. Anyone else have anything similar? Thanks ## Hello, Chris! How is your wife doing? Has there been any change? It has been known to cause headaches, according to the FDA, but the edema is unusual. Other typical side effects may include nausea, diarrhea and insomnia. Is the only medication that she is on? She should likely have this checked out by her doctor. ## Hello. I took Harvoni for 12 weeks, 6 months ago. I had the weird pressure in my head also. It continued on and off thru treatment. It was a pressureb headache. It went away soon as I finished the meds. I also have swelling in both my feet and ankles. Its related to me being a 55...

harvoni side effects

I have been taking Harvoni for 3 months now and am having nerve pain in my legs and lower back pain. Is anyone else taking Harvoni having any of these same side effects as me? Please help if you are able. Thank you ## Hi Tony, From what I've researched, "lower back pain" is specifically listed as one of the more common side effects of Sofosbuvir (the second active ingredient in Harvoni); so I'd imagine that "leg pain" may be attributed to this drug as well. If you'd like a more concrete reference, "back pain" is also listed as a side effect of Sofosbuvir on Pubmed at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25422576 That said, you may want to contact your doctor if the pain becomes too bothersome or severe. This way you and your doctor can determine if Harvoni is sti...

Harvoni withdrawal symptoms
43 Replies RSS
anyone having problems after stopping harvoni? ## Hello, Kat! How are you? What type of symptoms are you experiencing? I'm not seeing anything about it causing withdrawal symptoms, but it is a relatively new drug. Its typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, diarrhea, headache and weakness. Withdrawal effects would usually be virtually opposite, so may include constipation, dizziness and drowsiness. How long were you on it? ## Hello, I also am having withdrawel feelings, I am constantly tired, I feel fatiqued, slight head ache, have a sick feeling in my stomach I completed the the Harvoni treatment, I pretty much had these same feelings on the Harvoni. I saw my doctor 2 weeks ago, he had me do some blood work, I go back this morning to see him, I hope he has s...

About to start Zepatier and would like to hear from others who are taking it or have taken it. -How's it going? -Did it work? -Would you do it all over again? -How are you feeling? ## OK so it's Saturday, February 24, 2017, and I'm taking the first pill of zepatier. I've read all about the older drugs and harvoni, and the possible side effects and long-term effects, so I know what I'm getting myself into. I'm F0, my liver enzymes are in the 30s...viral counts in the millions with 1a...I don't know how long I've had this virus for sure, and that worries me... I'm in my late 50's, and only recently found out I had it. But then again, I've been feeling tired a long time and I'm wondering if that's because my body & liver are constantl...

Anyone having Zepatier withdrawals?
4 Replies RSS
I just completed my 12 week Zepatier treatment yesterday on June 1St. 2017. Now today I feel miserable with headache, extreme fatigue, ringing in my ears and itchy skin. Anyone else have problems when they finished their Zepatier Treatment? ## That can be normal with any medication you take for a few months, then suddenly finish, according to NIH reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, and diarrhea. Has there been any change, yet? Are you on any other medications? ## I finished my 12 week course of Zepatier last week and am still getting aching joints and feelings of anxiousness. I have had severe joint and muscle pain, irritability and feeling flu like all the way through this treatment. Can anyone tell me how long this may last? ## Hi Harold, sorry to say I ...

Post Harvoni Reduced Immunity
13 Replies RSS
I finished 8 weeks of Harvoni on April 8 and labs said HCV is undetected. My question is has anyone heard of "post-Harvoni reduced immunity" I came down with a bad case of the flu and doc thinks Harvoni may have caused reduced immunity. Any insights? ## Hi Sam, I have yet to come across any specific details on post-Harvoni immunity. However, in order to reach an accurate conclusion one must also take into consideration some other things that can impact one's level of immune function, such as: environmental factors, diet, mental/emotional health, etc, during and after the time frame of treatment. Not sure if Harvoni is available in inj. form like similar medications are, but just as a side note - there was a study done by Rockefeller University, suggesting that the act of adm...
