Is losartan a statin? My blood pressure is high and they changed my pill from perindopril 4mg to losartan potassium 100 mg. Now my blood pressure is even higher and they have given me bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg. Can l take an herbal remedy such as co-q10? ## No, losartan is not a statin. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug used mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Among the benefits of taking CoQ10 supplements is helping to maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range. This should not be confused with the treatment of high blood pressure which falls outside of the “healthy blood pressure” category. While there is good evidence to support the use of CoQ10 in the treatment of high blood pressure, this should only be...

I was told by my NP that Cialis can raise my blood pressure. I am taking BP meds regularly to lower BP for several years. Has anyone experienced blood pressure issues while taking Cialis? Thanks. ## Actually, this class of medications usually lowers it more, which is why it's advised they not be taken with blood pressure medications, because, as reported by the NIH, it could cause your blood pressure to drop too low, which may put you in danger. You could become ill, faint, enter into a coma, or encounter a fatal issue, if it drops too low, such as heart failure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I took my very first 10mg Cialis 4 days ago. Had a little effect in the bedroom but not as good as advertised. Also within 2 hours my B/P was 180/95 (I do not have high B/P). I was...

Has anyone experienced this high blood pressure and severe headaches with Prestique 100mg a day? I have been on it for 4 monthes now and have just started experiencing these symptoms this past month. Blood pressure as high as 210/110 and I was in the hospital for 4 days. All cardiac and blood clot issues have been ruled out. I am at my wits end..can someone out there help me? I have also been started on 2 blood pressure pills without effect. My psychiatrist suggessted lowering my dosage to 50mg a day. ## Yes, Pristiq is actually listed with a warning that it can cause hypertension in some people and if a doctor wants someone that already has it to use it, their blood pressure must be well under control, before starting the medication. There is a good chance that the headaches were relat...

I have blood pressure from last 6 months. Its constantly at around 140 / 100 daily. I m taking NuBeta SM right from day 1. But till now nothing is working for me. Also head ache is there because of bp. Can any one suggest me a good advice. Thanks in advance.. ## It could be that it is just not the right medication for you, not every medications works for everyone that tries it. Have you consulted your doctor? There are other you can try to see if they lower your blood pressure. Have you lowered your salt intake and do you get lots of exercise? The NIH also lists these issues as possibly contributing to high blood pressure.

Hello, I've taken lisinopril 5 mg x 1 daily for a few years, as I have 1 kidney. I've also taken atenolol 50 mg x1. My blood pressure has always been good at 120/80 or less. Last week the numbers jumped to 170/101 and higher, as I was told to increase lisinopril to 20 mg and atenolol to 50 x2. Blood pressure was still high 150's/ 99. Kidney doc put me own losatran 50 mg x 2 three days ago. I stopped the lisinopril. Blood pressure was still high 169/104 today. I have diabetes also. My kidney doc says: all my blood work is good, ekg good, cat scan of head good. Any suggestion on the sudden jump in blood pressure? I'm very concerned why the sudden jump, almost like someone thru a switch. Where do we check next? Also, I'm a 70 year old male. Thanks. ## Hello, Ken! How ar...

CO Q-10 DIETARY SUPPLEMENT 100MG THIS IS A HEART HEALTH . WILL THIS HELP THE HEART. ## In several studies CoQ10 has actually been shown to lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. The effect of CoQ10 on blood pressure is usually not seen until after 4-12 weeks of therapy. Typical reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure with CoQ10 therapy in patients with high blood pressure are in the 10% range. Having healthy blood pressure ranges does in fact benefit the heart. Personally I think that supplementing this enzyme will provide you with a host of other benefits as well as good heart health. Source with references: Also based on personal experience, 100mg dose is not going to be very effective unless taken long term. I was taking an upwards of 600mg a day for a f...

Doctors tried Clinidipine 10 mg for few days but its not coming down from 150/120. So now they gave Losar H 10mg. Is it good or else which medicine should I take. I am going through very bad phase. ## Clonodine works for me, it is blood pressure medication but i used it for withdrawl symptoms of coming off H, but i quite liked it. it took away my chest heavyness and racing heart and sweating. I have also used Prazosin (again, for a different medical condition, PTSD) -HOWEVER! When you start Prazosin, it increases your blood pressure, which the doctor did not tell me, and is very intense the first couple nights i thought i was going to have a heart atta...

I moved from Warfarin to Pradaxa 1.5yrs ago. I was having to have blood tests quite frequently with my INR decreasing or increasing despite trying to maintain a correct diet. I have been so much healthier with Pradaxa and have returned to competitive swimming, At age 65 I am swimming 100 M Medley's. I keep getting much faster in the pool. I am not sure if it is connected but I changed my diet to only include Fish/ skinless chicken-sometimes, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and Muesli for breakfast. I did have high Blood pressure and high Cholesterol but my BP is quite normal and one 45 yr Physician told me, my Cholesterol was much better than his. ## Hi Charles, According to the New York Times, Pradaxa was identified as the primary suspect in 542 patient deaths reported to the F.D.A. in...

I started bystolic (5mg, now up to 10) a couple weeks ago. I got a test result of a high potassium level, which I know requires attention. I took supplements before all this started, but stopped immediately when I was put on meds. My dr says bystolic would not have caused this, more likely it was the supplements. My kidney panel was good. Has anyone had a potassium issue with bystolic? ## Bystolic contains the active ingredient Nebivolol, which is a beta blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. And though it is rare, it has happened with this class of medications, because they can inhibit potassium from entering your cells. It could even have been a combination of the medication and the supplements you were taking. Are there any other questions o...

I have been taking BISOPR/HCTZ 10/6.25 for quite some time with very good results. I recently began seeing the VA and was prescribed Hydrochloriothiazide 25MG, half a tablet a day along with Bisoprolol Fumarate 10MG a day in place of it. Is this okay? It seems at even half a tablet, the Hydrochlorothiazide is a little high. ## It is commonly used in much higher doses than that. Has your blood pressure been under control? Did they give you a reason for the switch in dosage? It may lower your blood pressure even more or cause some dehydration if you are not carefully monitored.

seizures, adhd ## is it safe to take lexapro 10mg with metoprolol tartrate 25mg at same time?i've had diabetic symptoms, fainting, lightheadness and dizziness with chest pains and tightness! ## Melinda, those can also be symptoms of high blood pressure, medication side effects or heart disease. Have you spoken with your doctor regarding them and what may be causing them? Do your doctor and pharmacist know you are taking both of these together? There aren't any warning listed regarding the use of the two together. Lexapro is an antidepressant containing the active ingredient Escitalopram. i take lisinipril 10 mg once a day in the evening.....my bp is perfect all day until around 5pm then spikes up so ill take my pill...all evening im waiting for bp to come down usually takes a good 3 hrs to get good again...how can i better take it to avoid these spikes ## Hello, Danette! How are you? How high is it spiking in the evening? And when are the spikes occurring, are they happening after activity, after eating, or just close to the time of your next dose? Your blood pressure should fluctuate throughout the day, in accordance with some of the things I've already asked about, such as activity, eating, next dose being due and those are just some of the reasons listed by the NIH. I am a high blood pressure/cardiology patient myself, and I have learned that there are certain ti...

My Pain Care Specialist who discovered my swollen legs etc and my high BP told me that my sudden high BP is likely to be the tremedous stress I am under in my home life and bad diet and lack of exercise. Can I safely use Phentermine while I take hydrocodine 10-325, Celebrex 200, Avapro 150. All 1x pd? I'm very overweight. This helped me lose weight in the past and eliminates BP meds + more. My BP is good while on Avapro. I took Phentermine 1/2 tab with Avapro before with no problems. Lost 75 lbs. BP became normal. URGENT! ## Hello, Coopie! How are you? Actually, if you have a high blood pressure, Phentermine is generally contraindicated, as reported by the FDA, due to the fact that it is a stimulant, which can cause elevated heart rate and blood pressure. Have you considered trying a different weight loss option? I was previously diagnosed with anxiety and depression, after many years of antidepressant mess I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. They started me on 50mcg it was good for a year then had to be increased to 100mcg and I feel loads better, no more anxiety attacks and my mood is a lot better. If I miss my med doses I can tell I become moody. I have slowly lost weight over the years I have been on it. I'd say about 50lbs. But I also eat healthier and exercise more, before I couldn't do it much due to lack of energy. Constantly tired sleeping all day and had stomach pain a lot. Before my doctor said my body was functioning to 20-30% what it should be functioning. So that makes a huge difference. Also I have borderline high blood pressure so I am on a sodium restricted diet. It is a stimulant, so it may cause elevated blood pressure and heart rate and if you do have high blood pressure, then no, it is not safe for you to take it.
