My husband has been using Triplen Forte for about 6 months now. He is reporting a humming noise in his ear and this seems to be increasing in severity. I started taking Chantix two and a half weeks ago. The first three days I had no issues, however when I started taking it twice a day I became very nauseous. I think I have over come that by making sure that I eat something with it (never ate prior to coming to work in the morning and a granola bar seems to help). My biggest concern that is in the past 14 days I have gained ten pounds. I feel like this is bloating and water weight however very concerning to me. I use Clindamycin before going to the dentist and I also used it when I went into labor. I have a triple heart murmur. Can I not take amoxicillin instead? ## Generally, that is up to the prescribing doctor. How long does it need to be taken? ## Hi Bunny, From what I could gather, the standard dose of Amoxicillin for dogs is reportedly 5 mg for every pound the dog weighs [administered every 12 hours], or 10 mg per pound [administered every 24 hours]. I haven't come across any specific details concerning the duration of treatment, but I'd imagine that it would differ on a case by case basis depending on the type and severity of the infection. Nevertheless, I think it would ultimately be your safest bet to have a veterinarian determine which dosing regimen to go by after evaluating the dog in person. I am concerned about starting Keflex because I just finished taking Amoxicillin. Will this be ok? ## Did you find out if it was okay to start taking this? On the drug info page it says to let your doctor know if you are taking any other antibiotics while taking keflex. But technically if you already stopped taking the amoxicililn then you might be safe to take keflex. Sometimes you might be prescribed a different antibiotic so that the bacteria don't build a tolerance in your body to the original one you were on. But it is definitely best to triple check with your doctor about this. My husband is taking the following medications: Olmetec 40mg + Zanidip 10mg + Plavix 75mg + Lasix 40mg + Cartia aspirin 100mg; 1 each morning. He is also taking: 2 Panadol Osteo 5mg x 3 times daily + 1 Pregabalin 25mg + 1 Vytorin 10/40mg at night. All prescribed by his GP. He had a triple bypass in 2014; stents 1 in Feb, 2 in Nov 2016; Radical prostectomy for cancer in 2006; Radiation for secondary cancers in 2009; Neurosurgery for a subdural hemorrhage in 2013. He has had breathing problems and used inhalers off and on for 4 years (is now off these). He does have asbestos fibers in his lungs, but thankfully no major problems there. But he is having problems with tiredness throughout the day and is constantly sleeping. Is this due to the mixture of drugs he is on now?
