I do take Tramadol and Fentynal and it seems to help the neuropathy due to failed back surgery. There seems to be a debate and sort of a conflict with my pain clinic and my PC. Why I don't know tramadol is not classified a scheduled drug even though it is OPOID LIKE. My pain clinic is strict and I only get 25mmg of the fent patch and I need more help. This is the only drug my PC could give me without me getting in trouble from the pain clinic. I had a drug test from the pain clinic and I dont know why I don't even drink or smoke pot? They know I am taking it and said nothing it showed up in the drug test and I told them I was taking it. There is always a nebnose nurse at my PC office that causes a fuss once in a while but then I have to shut them up and tell them to mind their own business. Why take something away that helps when you don't have any other choice but to jump off a bridge.

I take 120 4mg Dilaudid and 180 Tramadol 50mg. So yes Fentanyl is basically the same to Dilaudid and morphine., except on a weight to weight basis, Fentanyl is much stronger, any where from 100 to 1000 times stronger than morphine, depending on the fentanyl type, of course you just get a lower dose, such as fentanyl is in mcg instead of mg as morphine and Dilaudid are.

I was in the same boat as you, I contacted the Minister of health and after a few months , the pain clinic contacted me and told me what medication I need, so now I have Fentanyl 75 and 2x 150 Tramadol, and my pain is managed. Please stand up for your self and keep complaining about your pain, we know how it affects our lives we are the ones that suffer. So dont give up sometimes we have to fight for what is right. God bless you and take it easy one step at a time.

Yes, there are many occasions when different pain medications are prescribed together to give better pain control or to get pain relief faster, while waiting for a time released medication, like the Fentanyl patch, to being working.

She should be informed, however, that they both can cause CNS depression, so she has to watch for signs of severe problems, like lowered breath rate, lowered heart/pulse rate and low low blood pressure.

It can also cause more side effects than usual, so she may experience worse dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and constipation.

Also remember that any other medication and medical conditions must be taken under consideration when using medications, so make sure her doctor approves of her using both.

Are there any comments or questions?

Tramadol don't work for real pain, at least for me anyway. Fetanyl is the first thing that has worked and has not given me a "buzz". It is nice having a steady stream of pain meds. All other medication I have tried has a lot of ups and downs between doses not fetanyl. It gives me a lot of relief for the first time. Tramadol was just a joke and did nothing for me at all. It is important to use the correct dosage and to only use the patches as directed. I have read stories of stupid people eating the gel out of the patch and OD'ing. So please don't kill yourself and play around with the patches. I hope you find what works for you. I don't see any problem with going directly back to Tramadol if it works for you. I know you can take both at the same time without a bad drug interaction. Best of luck.

I was on fentanyl 50 for a few years, and plus one 50mg tramadol at night, and topiramate 100. About six months ago I felt the fentanyl wasn't working well any more, so I came off it, and bumped up the tramadol to 400mgs, in two lots of slow release each day. My chronic pain comes as a result of one failed back surgery, where the surgeon misfired the screw, missing the pedicle altogether, and shooting it through my spinal canal narrowly missing the spinal cord. I had it removed a few years later, but damage was done, further fusion one level up,2 disc replacement in neck. Then as a result of devastating nerve damage, due to spine damage, I had multiple prolapses, which had to be repaired, hysterectomy, colectomy, and all the bits below it, and now have an ileostomy, and permanent pain both neuropathic and mechanical. Anyway it got so bad I thought I might have something really nasty like cancer, so I went for a scan. It came back clear, but showed that I have more degeneration in spine, and a neurogenic bladder. The doc also said I would certainly have huge adhesions, but he would not touch them, as that would invariably make them worse. So I had to do some serious thinking about pain relief. Also some research. I discovered that although I was on the highest allowed dose of tramadol, it was only equivalent to one quarter of what I was on six months ago with the patch, and furthermore slow release tramadol is absorbed in the stomach, the small bowel, and the large bowel. No wonder I have been in such horrible pain. I thought it was in my head. why did my doctor let me suffer so every hour of every day and most of the night. She is a nice enough person, but why. I felt really upset. So now I am back on the patch, but have had to start on a 12mcg, but I hope to get back to where I was as quick as possible. I do feel relieved that I found an answer anyway. Thanks for reading.

I am on 100 mcg fentanyl and also take 7.5 mg vicodens for breakthrough pain..Im also on 3 0.5 mg xanax a day. I have severe diabetic neuropathy...i was going 3 days or more w/o sleep due to the pain. Thank god I found a dr. Who gives me enough drugs to handle my pain but who also watches and monitors me closely. Anyway when its time to change my fentanyl patch I leave the old one on for about 2 hours so the new one has time to kick in before taking the old one off. This helps prevent lag time as pain is harder to control if you wait till your hurting to change it. Ive also found...and my dr. Verified this that sometimes a patch will last say 4 days and other days less then the normal 3 days. Youll get to where you can tell how your patch is doing. Best of luck.

People. You write things here as if GPs are out to abuse you all. Each patient reacts differently to meds. If you feel sick or in more pain as an adult stop taking your meds and Go back, report your findings and try something new

'How could the GP do this to you' really.

Read the contents on the warnings and side effects.

I was taking Tramadol 50 milligrams & started using the Fentenol patch it worked pretty well for about several months but ,then I started to become very depressed & I found out that is one of the side effects of using both meds. So now I use either one or the other .

tramadol is not s joke as you put it. It's s drug that is used for most people with chronic pain and works well. I think you mean for you it's properties aren't strong enough to remove the pain your feeling. I've used tramadol for 10 years and it's worked very well to help manage my back pain.

One since taking tramadol I have become tollerrent and needed naproxen, diazapam amytriptaline, gabipebtin and pre gabslin to help manage the pain. I'm afraid I'm now on Fentynal patches but the steroid injections I've had are wearing off so I e gone from trying 12mg to 25mg Fentynal which worked for a month with nothing else to now havingvto add tramadol to control the breakthrough pain. I could just up the Fentynal but I'd rather see what I could use than filling my system with even more powerful opioids
