Lyrica Does Work (Top voted first)

Updated

Lyrica does work for myself. But I started having side effects. Double vision, being tired all the time, confusion, didn't even remember my age and that might be a good thing. But the drug is awesome for taking the nerve pain away. Just pay attention to side effects.

Mu husband was on Lyrica for 30 days until he started experiencing severe side effects, i.e. dizziness, chest pain, weight gain, double vision, confusion, memory problems, tiredness. He was admitted into the hospital with the chest pain, in fear he was experiencing a heart attack. He has been off Lyrica for 3 weeks now and is still experiencing nausea and dizziness. How long did your symptoms last after discontinuing the med? He is getting very discouraged. Resa

I had an orthopedic surgery on my ankle 8 months ago, and I have a small neuroma growing at the incision site, with neuralgia distal to the neuroma - not as bad as it could be, because there are only 6 square inches or so of skin affected. Anyway, I took Lyrica for the last 6 months with doses increasing up to 150mg twice daily, and I decided it wasn't doing enough to continue taking. The dr. agreed, and I took my last dose 5 days ago. Since then, I have had changes in blood pressure, hot flashes, shakiness, GI symptoms, and extreme fatigue. When I contacted the orthopedist's office about withdrawal, the nurse said that they didn't deal with side effects or withdrawal (though they prescribed it, and took me off it!) She said that if I was that concerned, I should go to the ER. I'm not *that* concerned, just feeling yucky and not able to do a great job at work.
How long does it usually take to feel normal again after stopping Lyrica? Is there normally a tapering off of dosage? Thanks, Susie

Has anyone noticed that after taking Lyrica you have very little patience. I take 75mg three times a day and was always easy going and mellow, not anymore. I don't even like myself.

I have been on that it is Neurontin but it does NOTHING for me for the pain. My legs were burning constantly and I could barely walk because it burn severely then.

Dear SUSIE,

Yes their are enough of a pain relieving narcotic in LYRICA to cause the withdrawl symptoms that you mentioned, but the good news is that the dose of narc. medicine is so low that after about three to five days your ststem will go back to normal. Personally I think LYRICA is a great drug for me. I am a severe diabetic and have alot of leg pain due to the
diabetis, and I take 300 mgs three times per day and I can walk without any pain at all. I have been on a dose of 300mgs for over a year now, before the LYRICA I was wearing the PHENOIOL 100mg patches and boy comming off of those liked to have killed me.
So good luck,
Wendell Maddox

I stopped taking the Lyricia and Cymbalta about a month ago, I am still having symptoms, I am a nurse and I am getting real tired of the doctor's offices replying to the patient the way they are doing? Don't ask the nurse ask the doctor about the side effects or call poison controll, better yet call the company and ask for the study of the medication. I am still having memory loss, double vision, of course the pain came back but I guess pain medication is the answer until they come up with another drug...LOL. You get to a point where the pharmacy looks at you as a drug abuser but at this point let them look. When I worked as a nurse I did judge and now it is coming back to bite me right it hurts....Cindy

UPDATE......It took six days to get the situation corrected and get me back on the Lyrica. Although I was on a very low dose, 50 mg tid, I was still having tremendous withdrawl symptoms on day six. The first dose made me a bit more comfortable. The second dose stopped the heavy sweats and chills. After the third dose, I was back to normal. My part D provider has committed to covering this medication for me until March of 2008. I have never experienced this degree of withdrawl from an opiate. Best wishes to all.

I had/have all of the same symptoms. I also gained 6 lbs in a few weeks. I have weaned down to 25mg 2 times a day. Don't know if my disc has healed or of I have enough of the Lyrica in my body but I feel much better. I still have the blurry vision, my memory has come back and I have lost the wieght. Even weaning of this med is hard. Mood swings galore and VERY tired and a mild constant headache. Lyrica definately got me through the first 2 mos of my herniated disc but my advise is to try to get off of at ASAP.

Lyrica does work. Those who are just starting, give it some time. That is what the PA told me. I am being patient, but I can't wait until I am totally pain free.

OK everyone. I just started Lyrica. I was taking Nuerontin. I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet and now my hands. I read the side affects and it says can cause swelling of feet and hands and weight gain. I have already gained 80 pounds from steroid shots and live with pain. I am going to give Lyrica a chance. Know this. I take Paxil. My doctor wanted me to go off of it to see if that was causing weight gain. I aked him are you sure you want me to go off of it cold turkey? He said yes and I wound up having bad withdrawal symtoms and had to go to the hospital. The doctor said that take one when you get home. If you aren't dizzy and sick, you know for sure it is that. And it was. I am back on it. But never believe any medicine does not have side affects or withdrawal symptoms.

I too tried lyrica. I was fine on neurontin but the doctor gave me samples of lyrica. Well, my hands got swollen, my feet, and I was miserable. I talked to the neurologist and he said yes, many of his patients complained about swelling in hands and feet and numbness. So,b ack on the neurontin. I think if this side affect is common, the drug should not be on the market. we already have neuropathy's and issues with numbness and swelling.

Just started on Lyrica. I take 50 mg in the morning and 100 mg before bed. I went to a health screening with HealthYes. My blood pressure was 95/51. I've never been that low. I'm going to talk to my doctor ASAP. On the plus side, my facial pain is almost completely gone.

I have been on Lyrica for 5 weeks and it has been awesome for reducing my nerve pain due to a herniated disk in my neck. I have had very blurry vision, the shakes (for the first 2 weeks) and some nauceousness. For the past 5 days I have been reducing the amount I am taking in the morning from 150 mg to 75 mg. I continued to take 150 mg at night. As of last night I reduced the night-time dose to 75 mg. I have noticed the headache already and also my pain has increased some what. I have had a lot of bloating and have gained on average a pound a week. I have noticed a lot of hair loss ass well. I do want to get off of this drug...has anyone tried Gabapentin? I keep hearing from other people (LPN and Massage Therapist) that I should be on that drug... thanks

Since I have cut back on Lyrica over the past 6 weeks (from 300mg/day to 25mg/day) I have had horrible pain in my left foot and ankle. Also my left wrist hurts. I am now in a walking air cast as per foot doctor as he said I have a "gross ankle inversion injury" yet I didn't do anything. I think it is from the Lyrica as well!! Hard to get off of!!

I've been taking Lyrica for 3 years now 450 mg and due to a change in my insurance policy I couldn't get my meds on time. This is the first time I'm withdrawing and I have the same symptoms as you do. After 4 days,
Nausea, dizziness, chills, not sleeping, very cold and then very hot, dearreha, hallucinations; I'm considering to give it up before putting this poison in my body again.

I have been on Pregabalin (Lyrica) for over 4 years. My dose was being increased on a regular basis and I was eventually on the top dose of 600mg a day. I have now weaned myself down to 100mg and hope to finish this next week. The symptoms I have experienced are cramping in my stomach and diarreah. I do feel better after 4 or 5 days though. I feel I have been quite lucky because I have read a lot of people having a lot worse withdrawals.

I was on Lyrica for 7 months. The nerve pain subsided. The side effects were weight gain, bloating and constipation. I halved my dose after 3 months to 75mg twice a day and got the same pain reduction. I tried to withdraw from Lyrica over the period of a week but I had severe withdrawals including my whole body vibrating, headaches and burning and pains. I then put myself back on the drug for a month then gradually withdrew from it over a period of about 5 weeks. It is now another 5 weeks since I have been off Lyrica and my weight is returning to normal and I feel my old self again. The nerve pain is starting to return but I have faith that I will be ok without this very very strong medication. I will return to regular acupuncture and have trust and faith in my body/mind's ability to heal further through meditation and prayer as well.

Yea. I just started taking Lyrica. My wife asked me how the pain in my feet was doing. I said not sharp any longer ... just like my brain now. I am going to see if I steady out. You can do things. I rode my bike for 5 miles, but had to force myself. In a bit of a fog. We shall see. Tired

I've taken Lyrica (4 pills a day or 300 mg) & 30 mg of hydrocortisone to offset pain from prednisone induced diabeties. After a few months, I have had enough of the excess bloating and I have been tapering off. Each time I taper down, I get naseau, headachy, extra joint pain, stomache pain and sleeplessness. I will be so glad to be off as many medications as possible.
