Neurontin Overview

Gabapentin, sold under the brand name Neurontin among others, is an anticonvulsant medication primarily used to treat partial seizures and neuropathic pain.[5][6] It is a first-line medication for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and central pain.[7] It is moderately effective: about 30-40% of those given gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia have a meaningful benefit...

NEURONTIN FOR DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

I have diabetes and neuropathy with severe pain in my hands, feet, and legs. My doctor has prescribed Neurontin for me for the last 2 years and says it will take away the pain I am having. He has also prescribed hydrocodone for the pain. When I am out of hydrocodone the neurontin does not take away any of the pain I am having. But my doctor insists that it will. Should I keep taking it or should I stop. It seems like it does not do anything for me. Thank You Very Much DONALD BURKS ## Hi Domald Burks, how much do you take a day? This is important as long term use of gabapentin can be difficult to stop taking especially at higher doses. You are diabetic, are you on a magnesium restricted diet? If not you could supplement your diet with magnesium rich foods or take a magnesium supplement. ...

nerve pain

I recently had transposition of ulnar nerve, about a month ago. I am in horrible, chronic pain. Neurontin does not seem to be working. My pain management dr mentioned Topamax. How do I deal with this constant nerve pain. It is in my left hand, little finger and ring finger. ## I am very sorry about what you're dealing with, nerve pain is terrible. What is your current dose of Neurontin? You might do better with the Topomax, if your doctor thinks you should try it. It does work well for many people. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, alopecia, anemia, and anorexia. Are you on any other medications?

How long does it take Neurontin to get out of your system?

I have been prescribed Neurontin and would like to know how long does it take to come out of your system? It is causing too many problems for me. Can you stop suddenly or do you have to ween your self from them?? ## Hi, Sweet Pea! Sorry about the problems that it's causing you. What types of symptoms have you been experiencing? How long have you been taking it? If you've been on it for awhile, at a high dose, suddenly stopping it could cause a risk of seizures, since it's an anticonvulsant. It is generally best to taper off of these types of medications. Have you discussed it with your doctor? ## I'm not on gabapentin anymore. I took one 300 mg 3 months ago that my Dr told me to take for my nerve pain and m.s. But I took a drug panel on July 15th. And today is August 1st...

my sister is prescribed this and she is nodding out and stuff but she is also taking Clonazepam 1.0 mg i need details to give her about the drug that is negative to make her stop taking it plus what does a long term of pill taking do to u plz help... ## It is the Clonazepam that is making her nod off. This is a highly used anti-anxiety drug and will make an elephant sleepy - even on a low dose. ## Neurontin is used to help prevent seizures, and to treat certain types of nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, mood changes, and weight changes. Both it, and the Clonazepam could be causing her to nod off, depending on the dosages she is taking. Taking them together could even worsen the side effects experienced. How long has she been taking them, and how muc...

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin

I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

gabapentin withdrawals

I'm being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. I'm now crying, anxious, and itching all over! I have tried antihistamines and cortisone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itchi...

white pill s g 1 78 - are these gabapentin / neurontin

These pills are white, oblong and are scored like gabapentin are. On one side they have a S G and on the other is a 1 78. ## Hello, Gabby! How are you? Yes, this tablet is manufactured by ScieGen Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 800mgs of Gabapentin. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, dry mouth, and weight gain. However, there are many oval, white tablets that are scored, so please don't assume that they all contain Gabapentin. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Are they addictive if you take them every day? ## What are they used for treating? ## Hi Kathy. Gabapentin, generic Neurontin, is used for treating seizure disorders and some forms of nerve pain. I have nerve pain due to damaged nerves ...

best generic brand of neurontin (gabapentin)

My pharmacy has recently stopped carrying Actavis generic Neurontin 100 mg. They also said they "could not order Actavis for me". So, I ended up purchasing the Brand Neurontin. My insurance picked up some but it was still $$$. Now that I've tried the brand it seems to work better at neuropathic pain control. Just wondering in May 2015 if anyone in the USA has found a generic Neurontin that they really like or works for them? I live in a small area with very few pharmacy options other than 2 big box chains. The monopoly works to their advantage as they rarely ever will 'order' any generic a person asks for. You tend to have to take whatever they are pushing that month. Picking up a script is like playing "musical chairs", every month or two a pill is a differe...
