Abuse Deterrent Xtampza Vs. Oxycontin
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Newly FDA approved Xtampza ER has a different abuse deterent additive than Oxycontin, however I have not tried it yet for effectiveness. I have taken Oxycontin over 10 years so I felt the huge difference when they began adding abuse additive to it. I am curious if anyone has info on this new med, how it works as compared to Oxycontin, or all info on it that may help me decide if I should switch? I always had excellent results with Oxycontin but when the abuse stuff was started it took so much away from effectiveness. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

Re: Markemark (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

How much food do you take with Xtampza? does it work better with larger meals compared to smaller ones. Say like dinner meal compared to a small cup of yoqurt?

The only way to make this work is to eat a high fat disgusting meal? All I see is a bunch of overweight patients with no pain relief. That is horrible that that is the only way to make it work. What if you have high cholesterol or have to be on a diet?

It sounds like they're trying to eliminate the weak Whether it be through a horrible quality of life from pain or getting fat in order to make the meds work.

Re: CHAD from Kentucky (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

I have been on regular oxycodone instant release for approx 4 yrs now and it works best for me. 30mg tabs every 4 hrs. I had gone to a couple diff Pain Mgt Specialists in past....both said only give extended relief meds. I cannot take ANY extended release meds of any kind because my body chemistry absorbs it all at once like an instant release tablet. There are others like me who have the same issue and cannot take these ER pain meds....if I took for example an oxycontin 80 mg tab .....the whole 80 mg would hit my body at once and I could be in dire consequences....so all the pain specialists in my area do not give anyone IR meds.....I also found all pain docs the meanest, rudest docs I have ever been around....at least in my area....you ought to hear their patients complain about how they are treated. These docs think we are all drugheads. Thankfully I get my med from my reg doc who will not force me into only seeing these a**holes. One of them totally insulted me on a 1st visit I told him I was going directly to pres of hospital. I did just that on the spot and I know this doc got yanked in by the prez and was told never talk like that again to any patient or get fired. I wanted to grab this doc by his necktie when it happened but I of course did not. These pain docs are the very worst people with pain can go to....they are biased against most of us and and some act like are a God to you. I do not, will not take any of their crap again and never let them talk down to any of you. We deserve to be treated with fairness!

Re: Holly (# 70) Expand Referenced Message

How can someone become addicted to Oxicontin if it's time release. I am on oxicodone which I understand how easy it is become addicted. I also on Oxicontin but that is like taking aspirin. My tolerance is extremely high. Been on opiates for 50 yrs due to chronic pain. Is it normal to feel effects of Oxicontin?

Short-acting medicine for oxycontin is oxycodone. It comes in many milligrams.

Can anyone tell me if Oxycontin only comes time release?

When in doubt, and your doctor knows nothing really about it, because he only recites what the Pharmaceutical Representative tells him in maybe twenty minutes and then tells him he will be rewarded by writing out scripts. You call your Pharmacist and ask him what you need to know. Then Google the name and more information will be given; and lastly go to the website of the manufacturer and ask them. Then you will well informed. Good luck.

Re: CHAD from Kentucky (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

Chad, Thank you so much for sharing your story. I read some negative things about it and then I saw your story. It helped me feel better about switching over to Xtanza ER from oxy OP's 80 mg twice aday to 80mg Xtanza twice aday (actually 72mg) but you know what I mean. I too have been dealing with severe back pain after my lower back surgery. After hearing your story, I have nothing to complain about at all! You are a brave person and so awesome for taking the time to share this. Thank you Chad and keep up the Great Positive Attitude that clearly comes through in your message. You are an Amazing couragous survivor that most people probably could not survive from but you have! God Bless you Chad, stay strong like you obviously are! Because of you, I will go into this switch tommorrow evening and stay positive and give it a chance! Thank you so much. One last thing. "Fist bump to you while saying, "YOU ARE THE MAN CHAD"!

I need to find out if OxyContin 10 extended release can be misused/abused? I have had 8 back and neck surgeries in the last 5 years and have to take pain meds just to be able to move. However I am concerned because I have a son who used to use Roxie’s and I am trying to find a pain med that is safe (I know no med is 100 percent safe for someone addicted). I was told that the OxyContin was abuse proof but I really need to know for sure because I will do without if it means my son would try to get them and abuse them. Thank you.

Drink way more than the recommended amount of water when taking these and you'll find they work much better and faster.

Time for you to be honest with Yourself before you end up dead. You have a high tolerance because you are abusing and clearly addicted to opiates. The Levels you are taking are extremely highhigh and very dangerous. You may think I'm being judge mental which I am because from your post you have a serious problem. Please seek the help you need.

We need to remember that medications work differently in different people. We metabolize medications differently, so what works for one person may not work for others. Good luck, hope you find relief.

Re: Markemark (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

To the makers of XTAMPZA ER, the new opiate deterrant pain medication recommended by my pain control doctor *KENDALL HANSEN MD. Founder of INTERVENTIONAL PAIN SPECIALIST of CRESTVIEW HILLS KY. Xtampza ER is wonderful. I was prescribed oxycontin 30s for a miserable chronic pre-existing back and spinal conditions. Also I have an Astrocytoma (probably spelled that wrong as well, sorry) in my right frontal lobe a miserable painful brain tumor causing excruciating migraines.I also was diagnosed with epilepsy (severe extreme grandma seizures) which can cause painful migraines b4 and after a seizure! When DR. HANSEN is performing his back and or spinal shots with his ultrasounds guidance and his knowledgeable medical background, I feel extremely safe and comfortable during my shots i know I'm in very safe hands on his table that even if a seizure was to happen during a procedure then Doctor HANSENS got my back (lol get it? Got my back) offered with or without sedation... lastly, a fashyodemy caused by rabidomaylsis (capartment syndrome), one day i had a severe seizure falling down my steps knocking my self unconscious). I had to have the majority of my right hip muscle removed. Spending 67 days in the ICU learning to walk again shortly after I developed MESSER. I WAS in constant pain and been on every opiate PAIN med out there. From fentanyl 100 mg. patches combined with ms contin, combined with lortab 10s for breakthrough relief! After opanas, morphine, hydromorphone, many more opiates -every single thing and, some all at once, I went to oxycontin IR back years ago and non deterrent OXYS. When opana was discontinued, i was at a loss.

Then finally my current pain control DOCTOR, KENDALL HANSEN MD. (whom btw is a most excellent doctor and started his practice) at INTERVENTIONAL PAIN SPECIALIST, 340 Thomas More PKway Crestview Hills, Ky. 41017 # (859) 957-0700, recommended Xtampza ER, considering a switch (no tapering btw), myself and DR. HANSEN decided to instantly switch from my oxycontin 80 mgs to the new Xtampza ER. After a few dosage adjustments, trial and error (as with most of us opiate, chronic pain med patients), from Fentanyl 100mg patches to opana, to oxycontin, have found the most wonderful newest pain med FOR ME, this XTAMPZA ER on the market to date! As u can well see, as many health issues i have, and serious pain issues for an abuse-deterrent med such as this Xtampza is and, has been such a blessing in my life) ty makers of XTAMPXA ER! As my review here's written i truely am shedding joy of new found relief and comfort for the 1st time in 11 years!!! I'd recommend Xtampza ER to any 1 in chronic long term pain... Hope my story helps... Good luck and give it a try y'all, extremely relieved patient with very minimal current pain to date! Also, if you're a northern ky. Resident or, near us here in northern ky. Check into KENDALL HANSEN MD. at the Interventional pain Specialist. His specialty is in any type of back pain treatments along with the 2 Phenol SI shots, the medication of XTAMPXA ER in combination AGAIN FOR ME WORKED which, may not be for everyone with chronic back pain and opiate pain meds combo was the PERFECT match!!! Ty DR. HANSEN and makers of XTAMPZA ER. Sincerely, Chad H. 36 yr. old Northern Kentucky resident.

I just started xstampa 27mg. 4 per day. I was on oxycotin 60mg 3 x a day. The xstampa does NOT WORK AS WELL. Supposively u must eat high fat foods to make it more effective. I dont eat high fat foods for health reasons. I wish i could go back to oxycotin.

Re: Markemark (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Good to hear as I have been on 20mg ext release plastic for ten years and just got prescribed Xtampza. From what I’ve read, the 20mg oxy ext release I’ve taken all these years, gets digested before all the medicine gets into your system but, with Xtampza, your supposed to get close to 100%. I’m looking forward to taking them and I’ll let everyone know how it goes!
