Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 101)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Re: Juliya (# 1997) Expand Referenced Message

I think if after getting my gallbladder out next Thursday and after 6 months Of cardio Monitor doesn’t amount to much or no arrhythmia is seen, then I’ll try the endocrinologist. Let me know how that goes after you get your blood work in.

Usually a good day is when I just feel normal. No weirdo head or dizziness and HR standing and walking around hovers in the 90s maybe right at a 100 and no spikes. My resting is always in the 60ish no matter what and usually just Laying in bed reading it’s low 80s high 70s.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2000) Expand Referenced Message

I have a heart rate analyzer app. My HRV for the whole day yesterday was 35 which is very low. It normally takes about 24 hours to get results from the blood work so I can let you know tomorrow if they are in. So far this morning I’m doing okay. Still high heart rate but again that’s normal for my mornings I’m not really having too many symptoms as of right now. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Re: Juliya (# 2002) Expand Referenced Message

Do you want HRV low or high? It was kind of confusing when I read up on it.

I get labs, ekg, and Covid Testing done on Monday before my surgery.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2003) Expand Referenced Message

Healthy or normal HRV range is 40-100. The higher the HRV the longer it is between heart beats so the lower the heart rate. What does yours normally average?

Jumbo, it’s been awhile since you’ve been on here. I’ve read this whole thread multiple times. How are you doing now 4 years off metoprolol? Still the severe sensitivity?

Re: Juliya (# 2004) Expand Referenced Message

Since this whole thing has started its kinda been all over the place with the lowest in 30s and then highest 60s. Yesterday was 44

I saw you replied to Jimbo. I wish we had an update on Jimbo, Lauren, and Sandra. They seemed to go through similar things

Right! I just want to know if this stuff eventually goes away. And I Jimbo said he was still having a couple of issues after two years. HRV’s will differ on different days. Your heart doesn’t beat the same everyday and is supposed to go up and down. Just maybe not as high up as ours have been going. This morning was pretty good for me my heart rate went down to 86 for like 3 hours. Then around 10:30 the adrenaline rushes started. So not so good afternoon. How are you doing today?

Re: Juliya (# 2007) Expand Referenced Message

Sitting down it’s been in the 80s but up moving around in the kitchen it’s like at 105. Here and there about 115 but I’m feeling good today. I can’t feel it and no adrenaline today.

It’s so hard to be patient with this stuff and especially because I don’t see the cardio until September :) I want answers and to be over with LMAO!

My cousin had an Arrhythmia a couple years back. The AVRNT one and she had the ablation done and now no more high heart rates. Hers would go into 160ish I believe but hers also showed up on the holter right away. That’s why I’m thinking mine maybe has to do with all this medication and maybe the first episode was a panic attack. It’s so hard to know since we obviously have reaction to beta blockers that most don’t. And most drs don’t understand. The fact that serious arrhythmias have been ruled out but still not super clear if mine is one at all makes me wonder about the meds. We shall see.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2008) Expand Referenced Message

I’m thinking it’s the meds. Because it’s consistent with everyone else on here. We’re you able to work in these 4 months that you have been off? I am rather anxious to hear your results too. I hope if something is there it will be a quick and easy fix. This evening for me is a little rocky. Resting heart rate is high 90’s low 100’s. Horrible headache but the rest isn’t as bad in intensity as it was last week.

Re: Juliya (# 2009) Expand Referenced Message

At the beginning when I was weaning off and the withdrawal, my kids were at home doing online school and it was rough. I’d have to get them set up and then go lay down for a lot of it. I just turned 38 and I have a 9 year old, a 5 year old, and a 2 year old. It was rough at first trying to keep up. As it got better I felt more confident to go out and do things. I’m a newborn photographer and so because of COVID, I haven’t been taking clients. I just recently started to take Family sessions outside and that’s been ok. Although this last Sunday when I said I had the really bad Day, when I was outside in the heat shooting a family session, my heart rate was at 145 :( it came down pretty quick when I got back in the car and had the air on. About 110ish

Ohmy! I have a 2 year old and my husband has been amazing at taking care of him. Last week and this week have been so bad I’ve been on bed rest. been out of work for 9 weeks already from this withdrawal. Today was this first vaguely good day. And it was really only a good couple of hours. How long did it take you to start having good full days?

Re: Juliya (# 2011) Expand Referenced Message

I think like at 35 days ish, I had full good days but then still had days where I woke up With weirdo head etc. Right now I consider a good when the heart rate doesn’t spike into the 125-135 zone just walking around. 100-115 isn’t ideal but I’ll take it over the higher zones for now. I also usually don’t feel when it’s in those zones. When I’m having an off day, I wake up with a little bit of weirdo head and HR jumps straight to the 120s 125 out of bed and walking around. Usually it settles down about mid day but I don’t like when it’s that high out of bed. I guess all of this will just be a waiting game but honestly couldn’t imagine being in an office setting with all of this. Also when I have an episode which is where I wake up out of sleep with a racing HR at 135ish and I can feel it and it’s out of nowhere. I don’t have those often though.

Sometimes I feel like when I’m having the higher HR days, I also feel like I need to take an acid control pill which also just makes me think gallbaldder. I’m really interested to see if my HR goes down even a little bit after gallbaldder is removed.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2012) Expand Referenced Message

Oh man, I wish! I’m on day 38 and still haven’t had a full good day yet. It alternates. Like yesterday I had an okay morning and evening. The morning was the best. With the most horrid afternoon. This morning I e already had two panic attacks just waking up. So it’s either going to be just a whole bad day or a bad morning and afternoon with an okay evening. I can’t wait until I have at least one good full day! And you a right. There’s no way I can be in the office like this. I’d be slumped over my desk all day complaining about dying. Lol

Re: Juliya (# 2013) Expand Referenced Message

I’m so sorry, this is all so frustrating and I can’t wait for the day I’m not constantly checking my Apple HR . It’s so odd in general. Today we woke up early because we are going camping and was running around all morning packing up the truck and my HR stayed in the 90s low 100s yet sometimes just getting out of bed shoots it to 120. It’s just crazy.

Hoping your adrenaline has subsided more today.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2014) Expand Referenced Message

It has now for this evening. I did some more research. They found out that the beta receptors that block b1 in the heart also bind to the b1 receptors in the hypothalamus. Which controls the pituitary and adrenal glands. As well as the autonomic nervous system which controls stress, heart rate, and blood pressure. Whenever your body goes through any withdrawal it activates the HPA axis. I think all of us suffering from this have HPA axis dysfunction. Look it up when you get a chance. Hope you guys have an amazing camping trip. Good luck with surgery on Monday if I do not hear from you before then. :)

Re: Juliya (# 2015) Expand Referenced Message

So how do fix and Axis dysfunction? Will it go back to normal eventually?

My surgery is next Thursday :) but labs and Covid testing on Monday.

My moms HR was 145 today in the heat as we were unpacking, so that made me feel a little more Normal LOL

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2016) Expand Referenced Message

That I’m not sure of. I have an appointment with my PCP today so I’m going to ask her. Unless it’s under a doctors advice I don’t just pop supplements, they can do as much harm as good sometimes especially since they aren’t FDA approved or of you mix the wrong kind. I knew something for your gallbladder was on Monday. Lol. At least that 140 hr in the heat might be normal for you. So that’s good news. :)

Re: Juliya (# 2017) Expand Referenced Message

Yes I don’t do supplements either! I tried the magnesium combo that people were taking on here and it made me feel weird but that was during withdrawal so who knows.

My mom’s heart rate was 140 yesterday’s but it made me think that maybe sometimes when it’s hot that’s normal for people.

My HR Yesterday stayed relatively low yesterday even with all the packing and unpacking so I was happy about that. Every day is different though as you know lol

Let me know what your PCP says about what you researched :)

Are you having a better day today?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2018) Expand Referenced Message

Oh my goodness! Yesterday was my first full good day!!!! I was so happy to not have any adrenaline surges! I still had random bouts of elevated HR. But I can deal with those. It’s the symptoms of the adrenaline surges that I can take. My doctor said it absolutely could be a hypothalamus- Pituitary-adrenal a is dysfunction. That any withdrawal from any substance can cause it. But endocrinology can diagnose that so she wants to wait for the blood work to come back (which only half did) and make sure that’s what it is before we discuss treatment. Which I can agree with. No need to treat something over just a guess as it could be wrong. Here’s hoping we continue to have good days!!!!

Re: Juliya (# 2019) Expand Referenced Message

Oh good!!!! So happy for you. I woke up today feeling a little funky. HR is a little elevated when standing but back in the low 90s when sitting. Do you ever have weirdo head/a little dizziness? I never had that until I started taking and withdrawing from Metoprolol. It’s gotten way better over time but sometimes i still get little bouts of it.

Oh let me know about what your results say. I think if yours comes back with a hypothalamus/adrenal disfunction, I’ll go get tested to. I wonder what the treatment for that is?
