Hi everyone, I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on Vitadone for weight loss? Or even Adderall?! Yes, I'm on methadone, been on for 7yrs. I was on 194mg - now after rehab and them drastically cutting me down to 70mg I'm a week I'm crawling back up and am at 110mg...not trying to go above 120 (still struggling with sleeping and getting sick in the night) Its been a God-send EXCEPT for the fact that in the last few yrs I've went from 115lbs to 200lbs!! Im 5'8" so 115 was definitely way too skinny for me. I've been on xanax as well for 12yrs. which is what I recently originally went to rehab for to get the clinic off my back and then they cut my dose down like that bc I was way over-doing it...I too know quite a few people to die from mixing met & benzos. I have terrible social anxiety, OCD and panic attacks so I've kind of come to a realization that I do need the benzos and am on 1mg of klonopin x2 a day (though I run out) I've ALSO been prescribed Adderall for the last year, which I've Not taken at all....(I make a ton of money off of it) BUT this weight gain is really getting me severly depressed and even suicidal at times so I'm thinking about taking the adderall again. I used to take it yrs ago pre-opiate addiction and was very skinny... Since I started opiates, methadone, all downers...I hate any uppers! :( Causes my anxiety to go thru the roof as you can imagine. No chance of coming off the met. any time soon and subox does not work for me. *I take Welbutrin and Trintellix for anti-depressants, and birth control... not sure if any of those could be stopping me from losing any weight.?
Any suggestions?!

1. Why the hell are you STILL taking Methadone after being 3 YEARS clean?!
2. WEEN OFF THE METHADONE and you won’t have a weight issue.

I hate people who abuse this medication for ‘life long maintenance’. It’s not meant to be life long or years long. Methadone withdrawal is going to be worse than opiate withdrawal. No reason you should be on this for more than 3-6 months.

I have been on methadone maintenance program 3 separate times. Right now I am on methadone and have been for about 4 years straight. The first time I was on it I started noticing fluid retention (pitting edema) in my lower legs. I also gained a lot of weight. The second time, about 1 week after starting my legs puffed up again. And right now, 3rd time, I have the leg edema. When off methadone the fluid retention resolves. As far as weight gain....yes! But I have to consider that while taking opiates I was also taking coke pretty much daily. So I do believe methadone causes edema. The weight gain? Maybe but I think if you are on methadone now and you are not using anymore...you're probably gaining some weight due to the fact that your lifestyle is way different. As for me....when I was under the influence I was constantly rippn' and runnin' and hardly eating. I believe it's some side effects but also lifestyle and each individual's body chemistry.

YOU DON'T RUN AROUND TRYING TO MAKE MONEY AND SCORING SO YOU'VE SLOWED YOUR ROLL AND ARE MORE SEDENTARY. HENCE, WEIGHT GAIN.

I can't eat 6 small meals a day that just makes me want to over eat. I lost weight really fast & kept it off by eating 500 calories a day or maybe 700 a day & then on weekends eating whatever I wanted It works great. I kept the weight off too.I would skip breakfast lunch & snacks & eat 500 to 700 calories at night. It is a lot more satisfiying. I know it is not the right way but it really does work.

Thats the silliest thing I have ever heard. No. Eating little does not cause weight gain. I gained weight when on methadone. But I started taking a rather expensive multivitamin, and it paid off.

MAKES YOU CRAVE SUGAR ?? that is just not true my friend, the reason you gain weight on methadone is IT SLOWS DOWN YOUR MOTABLISM. not because it MAKES YOU CRAVE SUGAR...

unfortinatly it is a side affect. i have put 28lbs on in 2 years because of the methadone esp if on a maintenence dose it gets into your fat cells and is hard to get out. methadone is horrible i wish i had never ever gone on it i am reducing 2mls every 2 weeks plan to gt to 30mls and go on suboxone 5 week course and see ya later opiates. iv had it with this life with this crap the sweats the constipation i dnt have my monthly cycle no more nearly 2yrs 6 mnths thats not normal i have been back and forth to dr's hospitals i had a tmour behind my right eye and had surgery last august they removed it i still get headaches i feel like crap every morning methadone is evil i understand people who use it for pain but to come off of opiates it is the devil most ppl dnt get off it. but i swear if its the last thing i do in my life i will get off methadone. fortinatly for me this christmas i told my parents the truth everything and they are supporting me 100% thats what i needed to realise i can do this. and so can others you just need support and the right doctor. good luck

You all sounds like your lives revolve around drugs....these drugs are not meant to be used over long periods of time. Drs are WAY WAY overprescribing. The withdraw is the most awful thing in the world but the freedom from drugs is worth it in the end. Drs have made people slaves to these drugs. If you want to know how I got sober I will share.

Are you kidding, methadone is a drug that is very addictive. Lie to yourself if you want to but I'm sorry you're not drug free. All you have done is substitute one drug for another one. If you don't believe me try quitting and watch how you withdraw.
