Mscontin 15mg Er & Percocet 7.5-325 (Top voted first)

Updated

Hi, it's Kel again. I wrote earlier but now I am here with a different topic amd would like some opinions. I was recently switched (2 days ago actually) from being on Percocet 10-325 4xd to MSContin 15er & Percocet 7.5 4xd for BT. My Dr. was going to go ahead & start me at 60 mg of the MSContin and take my Percocet down. I freaked out due to just beinh another "new" drug. I habe to many chronic conditions to write but I can honestly say I am about to have 2 major surgies. And he is wanting me to get that Neuro Implant device. My question is, this is just my 3rd dose of the MSContin (morphine sulf er 15 mg) and I am truly not feeling that much of pain relief even when I take my now reduced Percocet dosage. I am on other medications as well, Klonopin being one. I think I am talking in circles bit I'm hoping someone can read between my words & figure my words out. I don't like the fact that I even have to take these medications and when my accident occured that led me on to my "new" chapter in life- it has changed my entire world! Now I have went from 1opioid to 2. Still am having troubleson swallowing that. I just want to know I am safe. I am a Mother, Wife, Nana, & daughter! Thank you all for listening~

Hello, Kel! How are you doing? Has there been any change?

The MS Contin is a time released formulation of Morphine, so it will not affect you like a regular release medication will, such as the Percocet, since it is slowly released over a 12 hour period.

The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Reducing your Percocet dosage could also cause some withdrawal effects, that may include rebound pain.

Thank you for responding! Yes, I am having withdrawl from the reduction of my Percocet and the rebound pain. I have contacted my PM doctor with concerning side effects to the morphine; such as- headache, itchy skin, cannot go to sleep, and feel my excruciating pain in full within 4 hours. He said as ling as I don't feel my throat swelling these side effects should subside. But i know I am having withdrawl from the lowering of my Percocet dosage being in 10 for 2 years. I'm having moodiness(mainly extreme anxiety), chills, etc. But he seems to say "No" I should be just fine since I habe the other Opioid inside my system. I am so clueless! Juat knowing I am now on 2 opioids is wnough for me! However, I know this morphine is helping with the pain that the Percocet alone did not~ but I am not feeling right throughout the day. I spkke2 to his NP yesterday and I go nack on Jan.2 to discuss this new transition. We are about to do my final MBB to then proceed with the radiofrequency to my facets amd then he wants to do the spinal stimulator implant. I do know that the morphine sulf er is no joke amd is a very strong opioid and it is for some and for not as in all medicine! I just got very confused when I gave all of my side effects to the morphine and he was only concerned if my throat was swelling & if I was having any other respiratory issues. I mean that's great but to me the symptoms I'm having are very bothersome... Thank you again for responding~ and if you have any comments on what I have added PLEASE feel free!
Sincerely~ Kel

Hi hope today is a better day. I have been through all of this and other issues so I'm not a doctor but think personal experience is more info than a degree (learned outta a book). I have taken the morphine 60mgs but was over 10 years ago and it definitely helped. Even if keeping couple perks just in case but not sure needed. Also had the oxycontin 80s but dont know if still manufactured. My husband recently was pulled off his ms contin 15mg'- not even taken down right way. His back is extremely messed up and is always in pain. This doctor should have her license pulled. Cares more about this opiate crisis and herself than treating patients. For instance same doctor who also is a psychiatrist diagnosed me with severe anxiety with panic attacks, adhd and PTSD but won't prescribe an amphetamine or benzos so I suffer. It's not problem if I take them (knows my husband won't leave me suffering) but just won't write it. It makes absolutely no sense currently looking for psychiatrist in Boston area and ask for my husband pain clinic wants to give spinal injections and hates needles (won't even get flu shot lol). I wish you luck and agree adding meds on top of each other is confusing in multiple ways. Good luck

Re: Destiny (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Wow! Yes, personal experience tops a degree period! In all areas, my opinion. I mean we do need Doctors, etc of course; however until they walk a day in our CP or mental illness a book cannot ever fathom! I get the shots as well and am about to do my last MBB in order to do the actual nerve block to facets~ which I am scared! This all started with a Lumbar Puncture that where the needle got stuck between my L4/L5 leaving me paralysed for 2 days after the procedure, never been the same thereafter. I now have permanent nerve damage on my left side, spinal lumbar stenosis, spinal spondylosis, disc disps in thoracic, spinal cord in flattening, saturated in Osteoarthritis, DDD (lumbar & thoracic) and 2 more. The lumbar puncture occurred on May 6th, 2016 and my life will never be the same. I am not allowed to do even aquatic PT, tried 2x and locked up and had to go to er from PT. Now taking 2 opioids is just too much on my soul! I know I am having side effects to this morphine but doc said not to worry unless my throat swells up. Okay! I pray all gets better for you & your husband. I go back soon to discuss this transition & in all honesty, I don't know what to say! I mean honesty is the best policy. God Bless~

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Verwon, thank you for writing back to me, much appreciation! It's going on my 2 year "Anniversary" since my spinal cord injury so I am feeling a little more depressed, if that's possible. So, let me start with what happened with the MS Contin and I do hope you reply! After my 4th dose (2nd day) I started to develop a nasty rash from head to toe, terrible headache, nausea and had not had any sleep~ so I called my doctor immediately. His NP said as long as my throat is not swelling to please try and "handle" these side effects because they should go away. I was a little shocked but I can honestly say it was helping my pain better than my Percocet 10 4xd. Even though I was still on Perc 7.5 3-4xd Bt. I do know my body pretty well & I knew something was not right but I was then confused because this new med was giving me some pain relief that I have not had in 2 years! And i know sometimes you have to weigh out the side effects for getting pain relief! So onto my 3rd day & 2nd dose, that was IT, my mood became erratic and I could not stop crying and then went to anger, the rash got to the size if peas on a V shape on my chest and my scalp. Still have not slept from the first day of taking MS Contin.

I called my Dr. immediately & left a message & then I called my pharmacist- whom I've been a patient for 10+ years. She said 1) I'm highly allergic, 2) I should have not continued after telling my Dr. my symptoms, 3) I'm having withdrawl from my Dr. lowering my Percocet that I have been on faithfully for 2 years. She advised me to go to Er but I'm stubborn and having all my conditions in my spine I chose not to, probably ignorant on my part at that time. So I didn't hear back from my Dr. and it was going on the time for me to take my 2nd dose (pm dose) and I just said "NO" and just took my other medications and the Perc 7.5 and prayed! Didn't sleep, moods were everywhere. I phoned my doctor's office again and left another voicemail letting him know that I have been staying in contact about this new medication but no one called me back and how I spoke to my pharmacist, gave her name and let him know I did not take my pm dose. Well at 8 a.m Sharp, my Spine doctor's NP called and asked me if I can get into the office asap- so I did within the hour. Ok, I am rambling, I just truly need good advice, please! Once arrived, it was like "red carpet" treatment.

First off, let me say my Dr. And staff have been outstanding with giving me my needed inj's., etc! A fantastic group that I am blessed to have found. Well, since back in the room, the "weirdness" began. My normal spine doctor was not the one who prescribed me the MS Contin, it was his Np because my Dr was on vacation. Anyhow, somehow it was "overlooked" in my records and I was never told as well from being hospitalized at one point that I am highly allergic to Morphine; however it certainly showed on their computer! I have so much more to add but please read my cry out if confusion. For one I never been on an opiate, only after having a surgery, it took me crying my eyes out to even take a Tylenol for a headache. Now I am in an Opiate and it is over a lumbar puncture gone bad! (Long story) I know my Percocets will be changed, increased to what I have NO clue! Any suggestions there, that would be great! My Dr. knows a Er form is going to better for my chronic pain. Oh & after being told that they "just" located me being allergic to Morphine- my doctor put me right back on my regular Percocet 10 4xd and made me an appt next month... Shocked & confused, but blessed!
