Is Gabapentin A Narcotic (Top voted first)

Please i need to know for sure if gabapentin is a narcotic? I take them every day. I was prescribed them. I was told that they are and i wanna know for certain as im not wanting to take them no more.

That is correct, Gabapentin is not a narcotic, it is actually an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain forms of nerve pain.

It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness and weight changes.

I take 800mg 3 times a day. Studies have shown that gabepentin works best when taken on schedule and at does between 6 to 8 hun 3 times a day. It's the only thing that's worked for my nerve pain. No narcotic could ever touch. I tried that med Lyrics and it never worked for me. You will withdrawls from gabepentin if you suddenly quit taking it but it may depend on your dose as to how bad it is. You would feel like a belt us wrapped around your chest being pulled tighter and tighter, alot of anxiety, stomach in knots with frequent bowl movements, nasea and drained. Oh and cold sweats.. those are the worst.

Yes but only nerve pain caused by neuropathy. I've taken pain meds and they never worked. I refused to take nerve pills due to ther rep of knocking people out. Gabepentin works very well and decreased the amount of spasms I had from head to toe. The only other thing that helped was pot. But it's illegal so I had to stop. When it becomes legal then I'll go back to pot.

My dad's stepsister is nodding out all the time and I found out she's on 2 300 mg tablets 4 times a day plus 50 mg tramadol up to max of 8 a day.. she is saying that nothing else will help her and is this what is causing her to look like she's on heroin everyday?!?!

The genetic ones that are Lyrica?? I don't know what you think but if you meant generic your still wrong. Gabapentin is different. Lyrica is pregalaban, a pro drug with higher bio availability than gaba but similar effects.

No they are not a narcotic. They are ued for a few things, but mostly nerve pain.

I was taking gabapentine , but changed to the genetic ones that is lyrica. Can't do without it. The side effect is that it give me a bigger waist. But I prefer to be pain free.

You need to know what you are talking about before you present such facts as truth. Yes, Gabapentin is a Schedule 5 controlled substance in the state of Kentucky, but that does NOT make it a narcotic, which is what the question asked. In fact, if you look at the list of schedule 5 controlled substances in Kentucky, you will find that narcotics are not on the list. Because Schedule 5 medications are generally Barbiturates and NOT narcotics. Please educate yourself before spreading false information.

Gabapentin is not a narcotic. But it may soon be a controlled substance. I work in a pharmacy and we treat it as a controlled medication and will not fill it until 90% has been used. It is frequently abused as it can give users a high from it. Just another thing for people with pain to have to jump through hoops to get any relief. Wish every single person that runs the government, FDA, and CDC could live with chronic pain day in and day out for a week so they can understand what we suffer with from chronic pain issues and then see if they will be so eager to make it impossible for us to get the meds we need in order to live and function day to day!

No, you should not use Gabapentin if you take Suboxone. The two together can cause your nervous system to be suppressed (act like it's hardly there at all), and you can end up with serious respiratory (breathing) problems, end up in a coma, or wind up dead. If you are going to use the two medications together talk to your doctor first and make sure 100% that is what they want you to do. Make sure that your doctor monitor's you on a regular basis, and don't self treat with Gabapentin while on Suboxone under any circumstances.

All doctors will say it's a narcotic. They will flat out lie to you just so they don't have to prescribe real pain medication. Take a 300mg Gabapentin one day, then next day take a 30mg Oxycodone and see which works better! Believe me you will feel the difference.

You'll gain weight! Idk if it's water weight or what but, just keep an eye on your weight before u start taking it then, after 2-3 weeks on it, check again!

It may depend on the person but I use to be on gabepentin 800mg 3/times a day at one point with tramadol 6 times a day. Now I'm on 800mg gabepentin like before with 20mg of subutex and I don't nod out. I don't mean to disrespect you but you cannot know for a fact it's what or all she is taking. Regarding pills Subutex can cause it if your not use to it or dose is too high as can methadone or any narcotic in large quantity. I've taken what you described and didn't nod out. If she is abusing them it's possible with that dosage. I've never nodded and I've never abused medicine at the same dosage. If she is falling over, falling asleep while driving, dropping cigarettes or phone a lot, burning holes in stuff then she has a problem not equal to her dosage of meds. Also she could have other issues like anemia or the like and could cause extreme exhaustion so that's another concern. Just pay attention and I'll pray for her either way.

Please check fda.gov. I had all the side effects. Made me drunk and very disoriented. Look up Neurontin, it's the same medication. Both work for neuropathy but you need to research both drugs. :)
