This is incredibly sad and tragic in that people who have painful conditions can not receive the needed care and must live daily with extreme pain. Whats worse is having had that pain cared for for 9 years and Dr. gets sick and leaves his practice and patients hanging. In our political climate..all Dr's are frightened of the government and refuse to write opiate pain meds. Such is my case. Am still in shock over losing a great doctor with no one to turn to. Whats even more frightening are those dr's who insist on steroids IV's risking patients to a series of life threatening events..like stroke..death. infection.. increased pain..heart attack..paralysis (FDA has just issued warning to such events) I dread cold turkey and I dread life lived again with unbearable pain. I don't have it in me.

I see a HUGE need for analysis and advocacy for people who are suffering during this political climate of hysteria cost cutting and control of Dr.s and Meds...{edited for privacy}. Something must be done...I'm available and have experience that may apply.

The best suggestion I can make for anyone in our area is to contact one of the major hospitals, such as Evergreen, Harborview or Swedish and ask to speak to someone in their social work department.

The people that work in them here are excellent and if there is such a pain management specialist in the area, they'll be able to help you find them.

Learn more pain management details here.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I am posting this for the WA state area. There is the Seattle Pain Clinic that has offices in Seattle, Renton, Tacoma, and Olympia. They take medicare and medicaid.
That said..most pain clinics will no longer prescribe benzos. They expect that to be a decision for your primary health doctor. Periodically like any other state we have issues come up that affect pain patients. At this time it is methadone. It is not a drug that they want to prescribe. But this clinic is also pretty devoted to keeping you out of pain without forcing you to do things . Most of the time it all boils down to communication difficulities between your primary, the insurance co., and the clinic. It is so important to keep a copy for yourself of important parts of your medical files. If you start a new medication with a doctor just ask if you can have a copy of that day's conversation so you can keep it in your medication file. Just ask the nurse at the front desk to put it in your file when it is transcribed and you will get a copy of it at your next visit. Then when you move or loose a script or whatever you can provide instant copies to a new doctor. I try to be prepared for anything..like making sure a new script is actually approved by your insurance company before leaving the doctor's office with it. The medication authorization issue is so harsh now.Hope this helps someone out there.

These posts are over two years old and not updated.. I was wondering how everyone is doing now and if you all find your doctors ?I and some other women and men. Had same issues in our state. It took me years of asking everyone new I meant, and yes, keeping my hears open in public, people do talk. And if they like and have a good relationship with there dr. ,they will tell you.. I went thur all that judgement stuff. But found best where I live in va now, I moved from living in Florida and having great pm doctors, to moving to va and living that night mare, I lost one dr cb he lost his license. So you really need to investigate and research a pm dr. i had issues with primary dr who out right refused to write me any thing but referred me out.. Always keep copies of your medical records,, always get a new Mri if your is over 3 years old and you plan on moving to a new state.. If you a vet.. I know few. Va does offer pm. Also I learned after my move from Florida to va the hard way. Don't ever move out town or to another state without first having new pm dr lined up. Des every where has doctors and pharmist scared to fill Rex, they do not care if your. Dying from cancer. They could care less about people whom are in real pain. This is all due to dishonest drug seekers. Wanting medicine to sell. They have made it very difficult for those who do need it and are honest I would never ever make a big time move or location to another part of USA without finding or having.

s there anyone out there who would be be willing to help start a GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT that will help people w/ pain who REALLY NEED meds? I have fibromyalgia, degenerative disk disease, and huge fall out from an accident w/ broken bones that led to a pulmonary embolism, and even more fallout from that--arthtitis, and more-- in other words---I'm a mess. Even with records of years of treatment, and a safe record with very small amounts of hydrocodone, I am finding my doctors less and less willing to proscribe pain meds. Have found relief for the fibro in Lyrica--which costs a small fortune, also Tramadol helps w/ the back. BUT there are always those Bad Days---you know the ones. Where all you do [when you don't have hydro or something similar], is just curl up in bed, or recliner, w/ a heating pad and whimper [a lot] you can't even get it together enough to get to emergency room--it just hurts too much. And the depression that goes with all this? *sigh* Now on top of all this politicians have decided to get between doctors and their patients, restricting what a person who is a medical specialist, can do what they feel/know is right for treatment. Doctors are in Real Fear of what legal repercussions can come down on them, Washington State has some of the most restrictive laws around. I would really like to help change this. If there is anyone out there--nurse-lawyer-doctor-pain sufferer-care giver-relative or friend of a person w/ awful pain---or just someone who wants a good cause to put time and effort into. PLEASE POST HERE. I will try to stay on top of all reply's--please forgive if this is a few days lax at times, the pain drives me into a hellish cave where i hide [and whimper]. Any and all ideas are welcome--one never knows where that 1st spark that lights the flame will come from. ------till later, stay warm, read, watch TV, go online --what ever it takes--care.......

Yes, still looking for Doctor: Semi-paralyzed now due to chronic pain which no doctor wants to treat with any kind of understanding/caring due to political agenda & over-the-top stringent medical regulations here in Washington State. Also hearing from doctors all the time that I just have to "sit & suffer" concerning my chronic & debilitating pain because "this and that study" claims this/that will happen if you take this/that amount of medicine, or that one might die from a certain dosage of pain medicine, especially that of OxyContin, which is the only pain medicine that has ever worked for me.
I have had two back surgeries that have left me worse off then before with regards to pain, along with having tried EVERY method or alternate way available for the last 15 years concerning trying to help me reduce my pain level: Trigger & spinal injections, acupuncture, massage, manipulation, alternative prescriptions for pain relief (which have noted on medical record as to the fact that I am extremely allergic to morphine, reglan and subuxone), etc.; Nothing has helped and thus I now am bed-bound and completely dependent upon the help of others because all doctors have basically connoted "Too bad, so sad". I wish that they could somehow experience the chronic daily pain I am in and then maybe they could understand. And what makes me even angrier is that they all know from having viewed my current MRI that I am a person who is not lying, an addict, just pretending, etc., because my MRI clearly shows that I have bone on bone in the S1 level & obliterated disks in other areas...
I really feel like no one cares. We are now in the process of losing everything in the hopes of just trying to keep me out of the constant pain & subsequent disabilities created from my debilitating chronic pain.
I know I sound like a complainer, and believe me I am not, but knowing that all these so called studies & reasons for not subscribing me the dosage that I need to function on a minimal basis are getting in the way (even after 15 years of proof that these studies are not applicable to me) is getting to be too much. Why, I have even been prescribed medical marijuana, which in Washington is legal, and even this has not helped!
I am not asking to be considered to be prescribed a higher amount of opioids because I am an addict, but merely because I would like to not be at the mercy of others when it comes to getting out of bed, going to the bathroom, showering, dressing, eating, walking, standing up, bending, participating in life, etc. Is this too much to ask? Apparently so.

The Seattle pain clinic treats everyone like a criminal. They label people and genuinely only care about themselves and how they look, to the government. They need to review the code of ethics for medical providers. I would never ever go back there.

I have a sadistic sob 4 a doc right now. If I say I'm better he cuts my meds by 1/3. If I say anything about needing his help or report that the pain is worse, he gets mad & tells me it's all in my head & my meds r cut again. If I go in and LIE & say I'm doing OK, don't draw his attention he leaves me alone. I have MRIS, diagnoses from top specialists spelling out in detail the extensive nerve damage I sustained. My blood pressure is beyond dangerous because of the pain. I'm mostly confined to a damn bed because to move has become agony. I pass out from waves of pain. The last time this happened I fell further damaging my c spine. Now I have numb & fingers that burn & hurt so bad I have to hold ice packs to stop the burning. I have a constant ripping headache & what feels like heart attacks, trouble breathing, all from my neck. My doc doesn't care. I got my pcp to refer me to specialists. One injection in c45 has made a big difference in the burning. There is no other way to say this: I am being tortured, I am rotting in bed for lack of pain control. 11 months now. I feel like a panther in a small cage pacing back & forth longing to b free. I have NEVER misused my meds or taken anything but what I'm prescribed. I don't drink or do drugs & I can't stand medical marijuana. I have never fail a U/A because I never do anything wrong. They can evaluate me as much as they want but even this torture will not make me break a pain contract. I have never been kicked out of a docs office. I follow the rules exactly as prescribed yet I'm treated with suspicion. Damn those who have used & abused drugs & doctors to the point that I'm paying for their crimes. There r no good docs left who will take the time to read your file, look at MRIS results, neurological & ortho findings and b decent enuf to give u a life back. They r too busy covering their own butts to think of their patients. I don't mind strict, I just want mercy & some kind of life out of this bed. I used to be very active. I loved each day. They will never force me into suicide no matter how much pain I have to endure. My body is giving up but not my spirit.

The Seattle Pain Center has offices everywhere! Seattle, Tacoma, Renton and more if I'm right. I know they just opened one in Poulsbo. Here is the website:

seattlepaincenters.com

However stay away from Dr. Kuhatrich. First name Ben or Beno (he goes by both). He is not sympathetic. He looks down on people who are in pain and he thinks he knows it all. His nose is always in the air, he is rude, inconsiderate and stuck up. He used to be with the Seattle Pain Center and now works with the doctors clinic throughout the kids up area! The doctors clinic itself is great for regular family medicine, not for pain though! Like I said stay away from that guy, he is a piece of work!

Sorry my reply is so late, I'm thinking probably a few years but if anybody does find a doctor please let me know. I'm in the Tacoma area and I need a new doctor because of the guy I told you about!

Hi, I saw your offer to help someone, or give a suggestion. I live nearby and am under the same dilemma. I cannot find a pain management doctor to prescribe, even though I have documented MRI's, CT's, medical records. Have chronic pain condition that can never be cured. Please let me know if you know of any doctor in the area? Thank you very much.

I am a chronic pain patient. I was crushed neck down in auto accident 6 yrs ago. Fused spine, reconstructed pelvis, joins replaced, etc. I'm disabled of course. My pain doc in Olympia WA just quit 2 days before my 30 day appt. I went into withdrawal and my body shut down. Spent Feb 2016 in hospital where they "saved" me again. I need a new pain doctor who doesn't work for the big clinics. One somewhere near Thurston County WA. Or Chehalis. Someone who cares about the quality of what's left of my life. The pain clinic I got into gave me just enuf morphine (the only drug I can tolerate) to keep me from screaming most of the time, but I am bed bound.....again. Years of hard fought for progress is being lost! I'm getting weaker, I'm losing hope. They prescribed me less than the minimum they could have and shorted me 2 days also until my next appointment. What kind of torture is this policy? I feel like a panther in a small cage pacing back and forth, dying to be free. If anyone knows of a decent caring doctor who can give me back the shadow of my former, active life I would appreciate it SO much. I don't drink, I've never even tried illegal drugs, and I've never disobeyed my pain doctors instrucions yet I'm being treated like a criminal drug addict. Anyone, please help if you know of such a miracle doctor. I cannot spend my life in bed after working so hard to walk again, make a life again.
