Sorry, I have only taken my prescribed dose, never gotten high and have never taken, in any form, any Oxy drug but everyone on here is right, all of these meds are highly addictive and if she is snorting to get high than yes it is dangerous b/c she will keep needing more and more to achieve a high as her tolerance will escalate but the amount of the drug that will suppress her respirations will likely be much lower than what she will need to get high. I lost a family member to an oxycontin addiction which is why I will not take it under any circumstances and I am terminal. I can basically get whatever I need or want but I have time left and still so much to do and wasting it getting high doesn't appeal to me. Please tell her to be careful, if you can stop her, which I doubt you can, stop her b/c it will only lead to a bad place that she will struggle with for the rest of her life. There must be some underlying reason she is doing this, is she hiding from something. Usually there is something painful in one's life that leads down this road, in my family this person lost custody of her children and she couldn't cope with the loss. The other reason is it is prescribed and some people just become addicted. When I was told I was terminal, I must admit, there have been times when I've taken meds when not in physical pain but more of an unbearable anxiety. I am glad I talked to my doctor about my fear, he was very gracious and added something for my anxiety and now I am more in the acceptance stage. If I can help someone else now that makes me feel good and it helps pass the time b/c I am becoming less and less mobile. I wish I could make your friend understand how painful it is when you truly need this medication and because of her abuse, it will not work for her when she needs it the most. I now require very high doses of narcotics and the only reason I get them is because I am terminal but before that I suffered terribly because I was careless with my tolerance. I used my meds without discipline and I paid a huge price. You may just need to let your friend go for a while, no matter what you do or say, the truth is she is the only one that can make the decision to stop or get help to stop, until then you need to step back. I know it sounds harsh but I've been there and it was the best advice I was given, I just wish I had taken it earlier than I did. Good luck.

Are you referring to the girl "with a friend"..., your post follows mine but didn't seem to apply. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dilaudid is highly addictive. My mother was a dilaudid junkie. She started in her 20s and was dead at 38. She was a beautiful person who eventually ended up selling her ass on the streets in order to get high. Drug dependency can ruin lives, not only of the person abusing but all of the people who are close to that person. If your friend is taking this drug because of severe pain I understand but I would be careful in order to not get addicted. My husband is someone who has to take oxycontin for pain relief but strict drug regulations in the state I live in make it difficult for him to abuse unless he is wanting to run out before his next doctor visit. Just remember when you are playing with fire you may get burned.

Hi, I did this out of desperation, switched to Dilaudid oral after being on IR Morphine and an IV Dilaudid pump in the hospital and thought since it worked so well in the hospital it would be great at home. Boy was I wrong, the Pill does not come close to the injection, either IV or IM, like no relief AT ALL and apparently that is very common so I don't know why they even put me on it. Meanwhile what do I do, doctor wants me to give it more time to work but I've been sick a long time and have NEVER experienced anything like this. I feel like I should just stick with Advil, lol! It's really not funny b/c I'm suffering and not a lot of fun to be around. My oncologist told me this is not unique to me, oral Dilaudid has very low availability and his nurse whom I've known now for almost 3 years actually took me aside and asked me if I had my script with me, which I did. She showed me to put (4) 4 mg pills into a straw, she crushed them with her stapler and then put under her heel (it was not a thin heel), point of this is she poured it on the shelf in the bathroom stall that you can put your purse on and showed me how to inhale the powder with the part of the straw that she cut off! I was freaking out, felt like I was going to be on that show Intervention, lol! She put the powder in lines with a business card and told me to wait a few minutes in b/w lines and come and see her. I did it but it felt SOOOOOO wrong. Worst part of all of this, it had zero affect on me so is there something wrong with me? She told me NOT to tell my PM doctor which I won't of course, she also told me to try at home, I might need a higher dose due to my long-term use. It must have done something b/c I didn't feel like I wanted to kill myself, not joking either, but that was about it. When I went to leave, my oncologist said "I hope Brandy got you taken care of hon". Now I don't know what to do or what to think, is this normal practice? Even if a higher dose were to work this is not what I want to be doing, let's just say I would be a terrible cocaine addict, haha! I know this is serious, I really do, I just handle stress with humor, I couldn't make the lines, it burned my nose, this isn't exactly convenient. What do I do at my son's soccer game, excuse myself and do this? I can't possibly do this on a regular basis nor do I want to. I know she only meant well, the pain can be crippling at times. What should I do, I DON'T want to take any Oxy anything and that's what they keep pushing as the holy grail and I just have heard too many horrible things about it, so addictive, personality changes, expensive, etc. Is there any dose of Dilaudid that would work orally, I am allergic to Fentanyl and I am too tolerant to morphine already so is that really all that's left for me? I don't have more than a year left and I don't want to be in pain but I also don't want to lose what time I have left. Oxy is not the drug for me and I don't wan't to do IV Dilaudid at home - they offered this as an option but I'll be so out of it. Am I being unreasonable? I'm just not ready at all. Any advice would be helpful. Also, is it me or is it weird that nurse is teaching this? Just very tired on hurting... Thanks to all that can AND do take the time to help me.

Forgot to add that I can't tolerate Fentanyl at all, already have MS Contin and so much else but as far as pain meds go, this is pretty much all I can take. Oxycontin is VERY expensive and I just can't afford and also had a pretty nasty reaction so for those that want to suggest other meds, been there and done them, lol. Have to have a sense of humor I find to get through this. Thanks again, just felt this was important info. I left out. Take care!

You seem like the most approachable out of all of these posts so here it goes, pls go easy on me, this is hard for me to discuss. I am on Dilaudid for pain mgmt., I am terminal, I have 1-3 years so who knows but it is definitely not curable so I am at the end of the road for treatment and have chosen palliative care, not a candidate for hospice yet, thank goodness. I have TERRIBLE bone pain that is the worst, I have other pain, it's in my stomach, it's everywhere but the spine and overall bone pain is at times unbearable. My doctor is very helpful, have plenty of dilaudid but I am also frequently hospitalized for extreme bouts of pain. The pill is nowhere close to the pill so I do also snort the pills but I don't know what is up with me and hoping you or someone else can help b/c prior to becoming ill (which has gone on for 10 years, just the last 4 needing schedule II meds) I never used any drugs recreationally and would have NEVER thought I would be doing what I am doing now. Only problem I have is that I do not seem to get ANY relief or reaction from snorting, doesn't hit me faster or seem to touch me at all so I can't help but wonder if I am doing something wrong! I crush them up really fine (they are easy to crush) and try like crazy to make those thin lines (any advice on that would be helpful as well, lol) and snort away. I have gone to 16 mgs and don't seem to get much in the way of anything, not hyper, not tired, still in pain and pretty much 100% there and this is a solid dose based on my history. Took for the first time with oral MS Contin and that seemed to make all of the difference but, to me, that's a lot of meds when I read much heavier users getting relief on lower doses, etc. I have been told that making smaller lines (again advice here please too!) and taking 3-5 min. b/w lines works better, I don't know I do know I'm at my wits end. I have plenty of meds and alternatives but this is my main breakthrough med so I really need some help. I'm not worried about addiction and neither is my doctor for the obvious reasons. The other thing is, I have little to no w/d when I don't take, I have NEVER suffered a w/d that lasted for more than a day which consisted of sweating and feeling very hot and one 4 mg dose stopped it and I was pretty much good. Any advice would be so GREATLY appreciated. I don't need any negative comments, I don't judge others, I used to until I became ill and I know that terrible pain does make people behave differently than usual and until you've walked a mile...If you are recreational and are not hurting anyone, well honestly I feel a little sad for you b/c I miss my life before all of this and would love to go back but that is not my fate so PLEASE, I really need advice. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your assistance and I wish you all less pain.

STOP PRESCRIBING ANY CONTROLLEDS BY THE END OF THIS YEAR!YOU EITHER HAVE TO BE WEANED OFF OR SENT TO A PAIN CLINIC/DR. WHICH IS JUST BRILLIANT WHEN YOU HAVE ALOT OF SENIORS/DISSABLED FOLKS BUT ONLY 2 PAIN MNGT. DRS. WITHIN THE COUNTY.AFTER THAT ITS DRIVE2,3,4 EVEN5HOURS!!

Kratom is a natural painkiller. Google it for tons of info. Where the trees grow, leaves are chewed. It can be purchased online in powder or liquid form - can be brewed as tea, put into capsules, mixed with apple sauce or something - or just 'toss n wash'. It's said to make an addict's detox/withdrawal less painful - as it adheres to the same receptacles in the brain that opiates do. Some call it a natural high. It's addictive also (though debatably less so than opiates). Anyway - google for more info. I'm not guaranteeing my info is 100% accurate, and it's by no means comprehensive.

Sorry to bother u all but i'm worried about my teens friend. I thought I overheard her saying that her cousin was injecting 2 4mg pills of dilaudid. I know I'm nieve but how the heck is that possible? how can u inject pills thru an IV? I had it thru an IV 5 yrs ago after surgery but not using a pill. Is it even possible w/ a pill? or am I nuts?!

Dude you just try and stop that s*** cold and see where it gets you, withdrawals that could kill you. Though I'm sure your quite aware of that. It is very smart to not do it alone. Your clearly just a junkie! Just because you ruined your life doesn't mean you should tell people it's ok to shoot oc, just shut your face ** ANYONE WITH A BRAIN AT ALL DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS LOOSER!!! **

Enjoy the ride while you can. My doctor told me that by 2014 all pills will be tamper proof !! It"s the people that think they can't die that hurts it all for everyone !!---I was using OPANA 40 ER--Now they are rubber and nothing to take it"s place--PARTY"S OVER !!!!!

Then obviously your on the wrong site and mind your own damn businesss as far as I'm concerned. U addicts that are currently still using and other trying to quit and if you don't like what is said then go read something else and stop bashing us who ARE HUMAN BEINGS and just because we have a disease called addiction doesn't make us bad people we are just stuggling to find our way so if you have nothing to say then don't say it at all and bring your negativity to a sight that actually cares what you say and get a life...we need outlets and others to talk to about experiences and how we can benefit and help one another...so bud the hell out.And if it was so easy to get help without paying 10s of thousands of dollars for rehab and treatment we would all be getting clean, but not a reality in this country and to be quite honest it's easier to get narcotics and whatever you else as long as you pay cash...then to get help-WITH INSURANCE so please people mind ur business n put ur 2 sense somewhere where people care!!!

IT IS NOT SAFE TO ANY EXTENT. IT IS FULLY STUPID, if meant to be snorted they would crush the s*** for you!

It won't kill you if you don't take a lethal dose... which is quite a lot. Also, Hydromorphone is quite easy on the nasal cavity. People abusing the medicine is NOT what is keeping "people who actually need it" from obtaining it. Let me make this very clear; It is the NATURE of the drug. If nobody in the world abused these drugs illegally a Dr. would still be skeptical to prescribe them to you being as they are highly addictive. You people act as if a prescription changes the drug, somehow making it not addictive or something. Also, I can guarantee your doctor doesn't even know I exist and being as I have never been caught with drugs, nobody has any idea I use them recreationaly. Your doctor knows all about YOU, on the other hand. He knows you are building a tolerance to the drug. He knows that you will eventually need to taper off (since you are addicted) and he knows if that doesn't work you will have to go on Suboxone or Methadone in order to kick the habit. He knows that you will probably be on these for the rest of your life. It's okay though, you were prescribed them, which is what you will tell yourself everyday for the rest of your life; rationalizing how you are not a junkie.
