Morphine Overview

Morphine (INN) (/mrfin/) (sold under nearly a hundred trade names) is an opioid analgesic drug, and the main psychoactive chemical in opium. In clinical medicine, morphine is regarded as the gold standard in management of severe pain. Like other opioids, such as oxycodone, hydromorphone, and diacetylmorphine (heroin), morphine acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. Morphine has a high potential for addiction; tolerance and psychological dependence develop rapidly, ...

Is 30 mg morphine Sul Tab ER taking 1 tablet by mouth twice a day, the same as OxyContin Tab 40mg CR taking 1 tablet by mouth three times a day?
1 Reply RSS
The above medicine was recently changed from OxyContin 40mg CR to Morphine Sul Tab 30 MG ER due to Insurance not covering the OxyContin. when I went for a refill after hospital discharge medication ran out! The Morphine Sul Tab is not even coming close to relieving the pain from surgery. Is there a similar medication that is close to OxyContin that will control the pain!! ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. No, they have you on too low of a dose of the Morphine. Oxycontin is one and a half times stronger, so you'd need 60mgs of Morphine for each 40mgs of Oxycontin that you were taking. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzi...

I was injected and they missed twice so know i have two bumps on my arm and my arm is in pain. What should I do? ## Hello, Jesse! How are you? If this was administered by a medical professional, such as a doctor or nurse, then what you have is just a liquid bolus that results from improperly doing it or doing it too fast. In this case, the bumps will eventually go away on their own in a week or so. Though some gentle rubbing may help to break up the bubble of Morphine, so it will be forced into the surrounding tissue and processed out faster, this can also be done immediately after to prevent this from occurring, unless a doctor tells you not to do so for some reason. Alternatively, if someone else administered it and it wasn't with something that was originally formulated for such u...

The FDA guidelines for proper disposal state that they should be mixed with some undesirable substance, such as used cat litter or wet coffee grounds, placed into a sealed container and then disposed of in your usual garbage. Alternatively, you can also take them to any pharmacy and they will dispose of them for you. This tablet is listed as being a 60mg controlled release Morphine tablet. Hi! Was on methadone for years and just not helping anymore so dr. put me on morphine 15mg er and 10mg oxycodone. First, isn't the morphine supposed to help on it's own? I see lots of people stating they are taking something else along with the morphine. If I'm taking both how will I know what is working? Also, I see my dosage is pretty low I guess the dr. has to start from the bottom and work up the ladder to find a comfortable dose, but, here comes the question again is how will I know what's working? AGGHH Thank you ## Hello, Tracey! How are you? The Morphine ER should be prescribed instructing you to take it regularly and the Oxycodone only to be taken as needed, rather than all the time on a schedule. Thus, if the Morphine controls all your pain, you'll know and...

zohydro compared to morphine
1 Reply RSS
Anybody who has knowledge pl3ase chime lectures please. Currently taking 4-60mg morphine er a day plus 8-10mg oxy a day. My questions are this. Doc wants to change me to zohydro. Vicodin has NEVER worked in past is zohydro gonna help? What is equivalent to 4-60mg morphs a day??? Lastly what is avg per tab cost??? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? To be honest, it is doubtful that the Zohydro will help you, if Vicodin didn't. Zohydro is just Hydrocodone without the Acetaminophen. It is also converts 1 for 1 with Morphine, so you'd need 60mgs of it for each 60mgs of Morphine that you were taking to be therapeutically equivalent. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as n...

Which Is Stronger 30 Mg Of Morphine Sulphate Er Or 10 Methadone
34 Replies RSS
I am in a confusing debate with ex husband which is stronger 30 mg of morphine sulfate E.R or 10 mg of methadone? ## Methadone is stronger than Morphine, just as an example, if you were taking the 30mgs of Morphine, the equivalent dosage of Methadone would only be 3mgs, so it's a roughly 1mg to 10mg ratio. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was on Methadone tablets for 13 years with a NY pain mgmt doctor who worked alongside an Orthopedic surgeon who originally diagnosed my lumbar-sacral pain from DDD (L5/S1) and nerve damage in my legs, plus osteoarthritis in hips and spine. My Methadone dose began at 30mg/day, and at it's highest 10 yrs later, was on 150mg/day. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2009, and lost 130 lbs by 2010. My Methadone dosage was able to be brought ...

morphine color change

I take care of a woman on Hospice and she takes liquid morphine. When I first opened the bottle it was a light blue color, now after a month it has changed to a clear color. Is this possible or normal? Or is someone tampering with it? How can I tell? ## Hi Rita, I don't think morphine is naturally blue, so it seems to me like a dye or food coloring could've been used as a part of the inactive ingredients. A few things I'd be curious to know about: - Is there any "settlement" at the bottom of the bottle if you were to shake it up? - Was the bottle was stored properly, and if not, could sunlight or heat alter its physical properties? - And lastly, does the woman you take care have anything to say about the color change or the medication not working as well as it should...

I'm on 1 extended release MS extended release every 12 hours and accidentally took it twice. Should I be concerned? Never had this happen before. ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? Doubling up like that may create a risk of overdose, so it could be dangerous. Anytime you are worried about such an issue, you should immediately contact your doctor or call emergency services, rather than post on a free website and wait for an answer. While there are always those of us online that are happy to help, we cannot administer life saving measures over the Internet, should they be required.
