OxyContin Overview

Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid synthesized from thebaine, an opioid alkaloid found in the Persian poppy, and one of the many alkaloids found in the opium poppy. It is a moderately potent opioid analgesic, generally indicated for relief of moderate to severe pain.[8] Oxycodone was developed in 1917 in Germany[9][10] as one of several semi-synthetic opioids in an attempt to improve on the existing opioids.[1] Oxycodone is available as single-ingredient medication in immediate release and c...

what does the 'pur' on my oxycontin mean
1 Reply RSS
Just trying to find out what the PUR on my oxycodone bottle means. I'm guessing it's a form of sustained release, but just wanted to know the medical terminology. Thanks! ## That stands for the manufacturer, which in this case would be Purdue Pharma. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possible including nausea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, and dry mouth. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. Currently, Oxycontin is only available from this manufacturer and it is only available as a time released formulation. Is there anything else I can help with?

40mg oxycontin op efficacy
1 Reply RSS
They are horrible. Purdue pharma put too much filler and other stuff in them. They can pass right through your body in your stool, which happened to me. They can make you sick. They take way too long to work. I get about 6 hours and that's just calming my pain down. The docs will tell you they're 12 hour pain relief which is BULL, and the 80mg say 12 hours - Now how can that be? I've been through 6 failed lower back operations, damaged nerves, scar tissue on nerves, 5 deteriorated discs in my upper back, 3 severe multiple bone spurs sticking in my nerves and 2 bulging discs in my neck, and need both knees replaced. And my doc only wants me to take 2 a day. I only get 3 hours of sleep. I'm up at 1am or 2:30am and then take another dose at 9 or 10 am. I CANNOT go through t...

Yellow Pill With Number 40 In Dark On One Side
3 Replies RSS
i found under my fridge a yellow round small pill with 40 on one side in dark letering, any idea what it is? ## Is there any chance that there's a marking "OC" on the other side of the pill? The closest match I'm finding is a round yellow pill imprinted with 40 on one side and OC on the other; identified as OxyContin (40mgs). Manufacturer: Purdue Pharma LP National Drug Code (NDC): 59011-0440 If this doesn't match your pill, I hope it can at least help to narrow down your search! ## cant see any thing on other side, but the 40 is in dark numbers and its not ingraved in the pill itself ## What is this small round oval like pill yellowish in color marked 40 in black lettering on one side, there is about 6 of them and none of them say anything on other side

She put me on ms contin but I had problems with it so she put me on 80mg oxycontin. Eventually my body built up a tolerance so she kept raising it, i have am now on from 4-6 per day of the 80mg tabs. It scares me that this is what rotted my teeth because only 5 yrs ago i had only 2 cavities that needed filling and then only 1 yr after going on the oxycontin i had to have all my top front teeth pulled as they where rotting from the inside out the dentist said my mouth looked like a heroin addict's mouth looks. He said it was shocking to him that normally he only saw such damage from someone who abused drugs with so much dental damage, but i ha...

I was on the Oxycontin 80mg 3x a day for 16 yrs. I have been tried on alot of other things . I went on methadone w/ 2 40mg of oxy then they quit making the methadone that iI took. None of the kadian or other things in that class have worked. I am now taking ms contin 100mg. a day w/15 mg. 2x a day it is not enough and my Dr. who gave me a hard time off and on about the oxy's now refuses to do the irs that are still available with any other meds. I've took the opana and at the time it seemed fine but pricey that has been a couple of years ago just to see. They have a cap I did not take the er's though. My Dr. is funny about writing large numbers of meds. This ms contin could work but he will not for instance give 60 more mgs. He would rater write 200mgs.3x a day because of am...

Dilemma with 2 narcotic scripts from 2 doctors
221 Replies RSS
Hi all. I have intractable pelvic RSD, peripheral neuropathy, lumbar facet spondylosis. I live in California and am about to have to change insurances at the end of this month. The new insurance has ridiculously high Rx prices. I go to a PM for all my pain meds, but my primary dr has in the past managed them for me. My question is if anyone knows if I get an Rx for the 60mg Oxycontin twice a day like usual from my PM and then my primary to write a script for 40mg 3 times a day and then I can go to 2 totally different pharmacies and fill one with my insurance and the other at another pharmacy and pay with cash, will that flag the DEA and cause my PM to get a notification of "Doctor shopping"? I am just trying to have enough meds to get me through an extra month until my husbands ...

In chronic pain since 2002 and will try all leeds ## Are you able to get into Seattle, at all? I can probably find you more listings there, if you can post back and let me know. Personally, I've found the options in the Bellevue area to be very limited and you generally get much better options if you go into Seattle proper, especially in the U District. ## I am looking for same and can get to seattle ## I have occasional severe back pain and I went to Dr. Escobar in Marysville.
