MS Contin Overview

Morphine (INN) (/mrfin/) (sold under nearly a hundred trade names) is an opioid analgesic drug, and the main psychoactive chemical in opium. In clinical medicine, morphine is regarded as the gold standard in management of severe pain. Like other opioids, such as oxycodone, hydromorphone, and diacetylmorphine (heroin), morphine acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. Morphine has a high potential for addiction; tolerance and psychological dependence develop rapidly, ...

Pain Medicine Doctor in Virginia
Post a Reply
I just moved to Fredericksburg/DC Metro area of Virginia from Florida. I have severe chronic spinal pain from bulging lumbar discs, bone spurs, spinal stenosis and scoliosis (in mid/upper spine). My doctor that was treating me in FL had me on 60mg MS Contin 2xday and 10mg Percocet 4xday. Which makes it able for me to function with a lowered amount of pain. I went through 3 other doctors over the years that prescribed too little or too much before I found him. I would like to find a doctor/pain clinic that will prescribe me the same or similar in/around the Fredericksburg/DC Metro area of Virginia as opposed to having to drive back to my Florida doctor every month. Does anyone know of any in these areas?

Mylan Ms Contin
17 Replies RSS
My pharmacy was out of my regular brand ms contin, I had to wait a few days (they suddenly didn't have the medication I got there for over 10 years. seems strange to me. A day or two after I started taking these, my leg pain came back, I have burning pain all the time, with my regular brand ( I think they are by Purdue) small darker blue pills, I never had pain even if I overworked my leg. These new ones are larger and made by mylan, they seem to work ok in the morning, but the pain gets worse when I usually do things in the afternoon. The others stay with me all day, I start to get pain late in the evening a few hours before my next pill is due. I have learned to live with the others, got things I needed to be done, with these I can see me becoming a couch potato. Has anyone experie...

insurance-Humana prescription through disability

Does anyone have Humana prescription insurance through disability? My Humana will only pay for 2 long acting pain meds which are MS Contin and fentanyl patches...I've tried the patches and I have a severe allergic reaction to them as they cause itching and burning to my skin and the Morphine ER doesn't seem to work at all. They cover the short acting pain meds no problem it's just the long acting. Even a prior authorization from the doctor won't get any others covered? ## What dosage of the MS Contin are you taking? You may need to speak to your doctor about raising it. The FDA lists Morphine as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. orange pill abg and 60... is this morphine or oxy
35 Replies RSS
I picked up my script and was given different pills. my script is for oxycontin but i think these are morphine. They are small orange round pills with ABG on one side and 60 on the other... what are they?? any help would be great. ## you are correct-it's morphine 60 mg or aka MS Contin ## Yes, Greg is correct. The same answer was also posted in a related discussion thread. It seems like this is commonly being mistaken as Oxycontin when it is in fact Morphine Sulfate CR 60 mg. Please feel free to post back if there are any other questions or information to add about this. ## AS A RULE OF THUMB ms& oxy after ten mg is oxy goes 10 20 40 80 160 mg ms cotin would be 15 30 60 and 100 mg ## purple or dark blue size of ms cotin 30 mg blank on one side S193 on outher was with my ms 100 m...

abg 200

How much 200 mg ms contin equals 120mg oxycodone? Also if 90mg oxycodone is taken in the morning then 2 more 30mg pills thru the day how would that be equated with 200mg ms contin for ALL DAY RELIEF? ## Oxycodone is one a half times stronger than Morphine, so for each 120mgs of it that you were taking, you'd need 180mgs of Morphine to be equivalent. So, you'd need 135mgs of Morphine to equal the 90mgs of Oxycodone and 45mgs of Morphine to equal each of the 30mgs Oxycodone tablets, for a total of 225mgs of Morphine to be equivalent. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I need to find find a docor but noone will treat me I was doing fine on mscontin 40 mg three times a day and ms contin 15 mg a day for breakthrough pain I've never sold my meds I need them I can barely stand up straight my wife has to get me out of bed put me to bed I've lost 4 jobs in 9 years.. please what can I do? ## Hi ed, Sorry to hear about what happened between you and your ex wife. I'm no relationship expert here, but if I could suggest anything at all, the first thing I would personally do in such a situation is completely cut any ties with your ex, since that's where the problem seems to be stemming from. If they decided to keep her letter on file under your name, then it may be a good idea to really try and work with other doctors to regain some level of trust...

pain relief ms contin morphine methadone

I really need some advice here. I am a cancer patient with a rare tumor. I have taken OxyContin 60MG and OxyCodone 5MG for breakthrough for over 10 years. My DR and I agree it is time to try other medications as I need more pain relief. I do not yet know how many MG he will prescribe for any of these medications. I realize that it would be easier to help answer my questions but any input in general I appreciate. He has given me 3 different meds to choose from: Ms Contin , Morphine & Methadone. Hoping to get others opinions on these. Whether it's regarding pain relief, side effects, etc. Whether it's just about the medication or about in comparison to my current pain meds. I think he will keep me on the 5mg Oxycodone for breakthroughs ( although not positive. ) ANY and ALL th...

Pain relief for stage IV lung cancer spread to spine, chest wall and adrenal gland

My oncologist thinks I take too much pain meds, 130 mg MS Contin , dilaudid 4mg, and Percocet for break through pain every 4 hours. The MS Contin is 2 times daily. After I take the MS Contin I start getting breakthrough pain about 1 1/2 hours. He said there is no way I can take that and be awake. Had to sign contract no one else can prescribe me pain meds. And I have to be subjected to drug panels to make sure I'm taking them! Hell yes I Am taking them. I just want some reliefs so my QoL will be better and I can live before I die. ## Hello, Mack64! How are you doing? I am so sorry that you're suffering and about the hassles your doctor is giving you. different size of ms contyn same strength, why

Why are different sizes of pill ms contyn , same milligrams ## Hello, Walt! How are you? Without knowing the imprint on them, I can't tell you any specifics about them. However, if they are valid prescriptions from your pharmacy, so you know that no mistake has occurred, then it is likely just due to different manufacturers using different fillers, which can change the size of the pills. There is a list of FDA approved inactive ingredients that they can choose from, they aren't required to use the same as any other manufacturer, as long as their pills are proven to work, such as being time released like they are supposed to be. This medication is listed as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...
