MS Contin Overview

Morphine, sold under many trade names,[1] is a pain medication of the opiate type. It acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to decrease the feeling of pain. It can be used for both acute pain and chronic pain. Morphine is also frequently used for pain from myocardial infarction and during labour. It can be administered orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously, into the space around the spinal cord, or rectally.[5] Maximum effect is around 20 min when given intravenou...

Fake MS Contin
2 Replies RSS
I am currently prescribed MS Contin for pain and while effective I sometimes feel like some of the pills are fake. I get no relief and feel withdrawal symptoms even. I have looked at them under a magnifer but they all look the same. Is it possible that someone at my pharmacy is switching some of my pills for pacebos? If so, how do I deal with it? ## I am experiencing the same problem. Generic MS Contin ER, 60mg tablets. I have been taking these for 11 years, but for the past week and a half my pain level became extremely high. Couldn't sleep, couldn't keep still. Unbelievable pain. I decided to stop taking them and started taking some 30mg pills I had. Pain is starting to subside after 2 days. How can I have the 60mg pills examined to see if they are counterfeit? BTW, these were...

Pain Management Doctors in DELAWARE

I just moved to delaware and am looking for a dr.that will continue my pain meds! I have done unhections n pt n found tht meds work beat for me. For people in TRUE NEED of pain meds it is very difficult to find help! And they wonder why people have to find them on the street?! I would never go that route bit i can understand ## HI Kimberly, Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics). Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to...

my wife (,age 48) underwent an anterior lumbar discectomy 3 months ago.she is not taking the operation well at all. she can barely walk and the 4 mg dilauded tabs are about useless for managing the pain.we live in Westerly ri and cant find a dr that isn't afraid of narcotics. can someone recomend a dr with some balls ## Hello, John! How is your wife? What type of doctor has she been consulting? Physicians really have no choice but to be extremely cautious about prescribing such medications and, due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if strong narcotics are required on a long-term ongoing basis, then only a specialist can prescribe them. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

MSContin conversion to Opana
12 Replies RSS
Does anyone know the conversion dose when switching from MSContin 15mg to Opana. The MS no longer works to take the edge off the pain. I have had chronic pain after herniated cervical, lumbar disks, 4 surgeries, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and daytime sleepiness, and osteo-arthritis. I also took 10mg. of morphine IR for breakthrough pain. Now I will take Opana IR. ## Your doctor or pharmacist should handle the conversion of the dosing for you. Has your doctor prescribed it already or made any recommendations? ## You said you have fybromialgia may I ask how long you have had that, I take MS Contin, nerontin, and a few others, but I have never heard of opana. does it work, I have FM and have had it for 3 years. ## I was on Opana before MS Contin and is was not as effective, very hard to ...

why is the ms contin not working

Switch from taking Vicodin 15mg 4xaday to MS Contin 15mg twice a day with 15mg Vicodin 3x a day . Why is my pain not getting any better? ## There are no 15mg Vicodin tablets, so what are you taking with the MS Contin? The dosage may not be equivalent, so that could explain why it isn't handling your pain. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Moving to Florida
2 Replies RSS
As most of you here, I've been taking MS Contin 60 mg and Oxycodone IR for break through among other meds of course. I have had RSD/CRPS for 26 years and Lupus for about 5 years. I live in PA now and never really considered the ramifications of moving to a state with such pain med issues. Due to job loss I've had to reschedule my meds taking fewer of them and being in worse pain. I don't want to find just a prescribing doctor. I want to continue my treatment. Any advice? ## I moved back to Panama City Beach, FL, in 2012 after moving away in 2003. In TN, where we moved from, I was on Hydrocodone 10/325 and Opana, so 2 opiates. When I moved here, the first neurologist I saw told me that she didn't like to give 2 opiates at the same time. So, I suffered through the pain for...

what do you when your dr of over 10 years retires and cant find another because have chronic pain take ms contin for
11 Replies RSS
I have chronic pain and my dr. prescribed ms contin for me around 10 years ago. Now my dr. has retired and I cant find a dr. to see me because of the meds. I have no idea what to do and am scared. What do I do? ## I would suggest going to a Pain Management Clinic. There most likely is one nearby, as they are popping up everywhere due to the need to control narcotic medication levels. Many family doctors will not prescribe narcotic pain medicine to use long-term. Most doctors will refer you to a Pain Clinic to manage your pain. You should be able to talk to someone in his office, assuming it is still open, and they can refer you to a Pain Clinic. If not, get out the phone book, call one, and sed if you can make an appointment without a referral. Make sure you take a list of all your medi...

I'm no relationship expert here, but if I could suggest anything at all, the first thing I would personally do in such a situation is completely cut any ties with your ex, since that's where the problem seems to be stemming from. If they decided to keep her letter on file under your name, then it may be a good idea to really try and work with other doctors to regain some level of trust...

I just started taking MS Contin. Last couple I have been having body aches and running low grade temp. Not sure what is going on, is 30mg to much or not enough? Please t ## Hello, Randy! How are you? Morphine can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It usually just takes awhile for your body to get used to new medication, you should see improvement in about 4 to 6 weeks. However, it would be best to consult your doctor, just in case, since you are also running a fever. Is there anything else I can help with?
