MS Contin Overview

Morphine, sold under many trade names,[1] is a pain medication of the opiate type. It acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to decrease the feeling of pain. It can be used for both acute pain and chronic pain. Morphine is also frequently used for pain from myocardial infarction and during labour. It can be given by mouth, by injection into a muscle, by injecting under the skin, intravenously, into the space around the spinal cord, or rectally.[5] Maximum effect is around 20 min wh...

Pain meds and the government

Has anyone with severe chronic pain been told by their pain management doctor's that they and everyone else has to come below 90 mg of ms contin a day because of the DEA? Well, my doctor is. In the past 4 month's, he's taken me down from a comfortable level to now in half until he gets me to 30 mg x3 a day. I've read a lot of these post's, yet I've not read anywhere about the government getting involved. Are we the only one's? Also, I've been to the best of the best doctor's, and they've all said there's nothing they can do for me. My spine is shot. A pain pump was recommended, but the risks outweighed the benefits, according to Stanford Pain Management. So, what am I supposed to to with this? Any help would be a great kindness. ## Hello, Tara...

MSContin conversion to Opana
17 Replies RSS
Does anyone know the conversion dose when switching from MSContin 15mg to Opana. The MS no longer works to take the edge off the pain. I have had chronic pain after herniated cervical, lumbar disks, 4 surgeries, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and daytime sleepiness, and osteo-arthritis. I also took 10mg. of morphine IR for breakthrough pain. Now I will take Opana IR. ## Your doctor or pharmacist should handle the conversion of the dosing for you. Has your doctor prescribed it already or made any recommendations? ## You said you have fybromialgia may I ask how long you have had that, I take MS Contin, nerontin, and a few others, but I have never heard of opana. does it work, I have FM and have had it for 3 years. ## I was on Opana before MS Contin and is was not as effective, very hard to ...

I picked up my script and was given different pills. my script is for oxycontin but i think these are morphine. They are small orange round pills with ABG on one side and 60 on the other... what are they?? any help would be great. ## you are correct-it's morphine 60 mg or aka MS Contin ## Yes, Greg is correct. The same answer was also posted in a related discussion thread. It seems like this is commonly being mistaken as Oxycontin when it is in fact Morphine Sulfate CR 60 mg. Please feel free to post back if there are any other questions or information to add about this. ## AS A RULE OF THUMB ms& oxy after ten mg is oxy goes 10 20 40 80 160 mg ms cotin would be 15 30 60 and 100 mg ## purple or dark blue size of ms cotin 30 mg blank on one side S193 on outher was with my ms 100 m...

what do you when your dr of over 10 years retires and cant find another because have chronic pain take ms contin for
13 Replies RSS
I have chronic pain and my dr. prescribed ms contin for me around 10 years ago. Now my dr. has retired and I cant find a dr. to see me because of the meds. I have no idea what to do and am scared. What do I do? ## I would suggest going to a Pain Management Clinic. There most likely is one nearby, as they are popping up everywhere due to the need to control narcotic medication levels. Many family doctors will not prescribe narcotic pain medicine to use long-term. Most doctors will refer you to a Pain Clinic to manage your pain. You should be able to talk to someone in his office, assuming it is still open, and they can refer you to a Pain Clinic. If not, get out the phone book, call one, and sed if you can make an appointment without a referral. Make sure you take a list of all your medi...

Show me a picture of the MS contin 30mg

I got switched from the 30 mg Morphine ER to MS Contin 30 mg. Is there any difference in these two pills? And they switched my 15 mg Morphine ER to 15mg immediate release. Is there any difference between these two pills? If they are my insurance will pay for it. Please let me know. ## Hi Jeffrey - Technically speaking those two pills should contain the same dosage of Morphine (the active ingredient). While I don't have a picture to show you, the 30mg MS Contin Extended release should be round a purple with either the marking "M 30" or "PF M30" depending on which company labeled the prescription. As far as switching from 15 mg ER to immediate release, yes, there is a difference in that the immediate release should take effect more quickly but not last as long. Are you...

Hi- I am moving and my primary care Dr. has ben treating me for an umbrella of issues...mostly fibro, intense flare ups, etc. I honestly cannot move my joints to walk or drive...3 years ago, I had such an intense reaction to giving birth that I was put on the fentynal patch 75 every two days as my body metabolizes medication very quickly. When I started to feel better- I asked to be taken off of it as I did not want to be on such heavy medication...I do not want my body full of this crap- but I also HAVE to function. I have numbness and pain in both hands. My joints in feet and hands are starting to look disfigured. BUT NEED HELP Dr has to refer me out b/c of the new FDA regulations- I was as of two months ago on 30mg of ms contin 3x day, 20 mg of oxycodone 3-4 times per da...

Ms contin 30mg twice daily

I've been taking this for a severe foot injury now after my second surgery I want to stop altogether! Before I started taking ms contin my pain doctor had me on percocet 10/325 6 tablets daily. I'm in much less pain and I'm tired of the side effects! How do pain management doctors wean people off of this? ## They decrease the daily dosage. Talk to your dr and tell him that you pain is less and that you want to taper off of the MS Contin. Tell him that there are times that you still need pain meds, but not 27/7.

My oncologist thinks I take too much pain meds, 130 mg MS Contin , dilaudid 4mg, and Percocet for break through pain every 4 hours. The MS Contin is 2 times daily. After I take the MS Contin I start getting breakthrough pain about 1 1/2 hours. He said there is no way I can take that and be awake. Had to sign contract no one else can prescribe me pain meds. And I have to be subjected to drug panels to make sure I'm taking them! Hell yes I Am taking them. I just want some reliefs so my QoL will be better and I can live before I die. ## Hello, Mack64! How are you doing? I am so sorry that you're suffering and about the hassles your doctor is giving you. MScontin vs. Opana which is best?
5 Replies RSS
I need to switch to one of these meds, Opana isn't covered on my insurance, the MS is, are they the same or is one better than the other? ## No, they do not contain the same medication, MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine and Opana contains Oxymorphone. The Opana is a much stronger medication, for instance, just 6.67mgs of it is equal to a 40mg dosage of the Ms Contin, so you have to take much less of it. However, since there is no generic, it is also much more expensive and since you can get a dosage in the Morphine that may help, you may find it makes more sense to go with the one that your insurance will cover, even though the dosage will have to be higher. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have been taking MS Contin 30 mg 3 time daily and have been cut to 3...
