MS Contin Overview

Morphine (INN) (/mrfin/) (sold under nearly a hundred trade names) is an opioid analgesic drug. It is the main psychoactive chemical in opium. Like other opioids, such as oxycodone, hydromorphone, and heroin, morphine acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. Morphine has a high potential for addiction; tolerance and psychological dependence develop rapidly, although physiological dependence may take several months to develop. Tolerance to respiratory depression and e...

what do you when your dr of over 10 years retires and cant find another because have chronic pain take ms contin for

I have chronic pain and my dr. prescribed ms contin for me around 10 years ago. Now my dr. has retired and I cant find a dr. to see me because of the meds. I have no idea what to do and am scared. What do I do? ## I would suggest going to a Pain Management Clinic. There most likely is one nearby, as they are popping up everywhere due to the need to control narcotic medication levels. Many family doctors will not prescribe narcotic pain medicine to use long-term. Most doctors will refer you to a Pain Clinic to manage your pain. You should be able to talk to someone in his office, assuming it is still open, and they can refer you to a Pain Clinic. If not, get out the phone book, call one, and sed if you can make an appointment without a referral. Make sure you take a list of all your medi...

chronic pain - I've been thrown under the bus
Post a Reply
First I'll just say that I will try to describe this very difficult situation simply as I can. I'm 54 years old I've done construction and maintenance most of my entire adult life. I had spinal fusion surgery in 2005. I had blown out my back way before 2005 but that was a result of my heavy lifting and going up and down stairs a thousand times a day and just doing heavy construction wheelbarrows full of cement. and just all phases of construction. also I had rotator cuff injury which resulted in not one but two arterial bypass surgeries won the first being a plastic type thing that was installed in my arm elbow and shoulder which year later it failed so either cut my arm off because it's not working anymore or remove the arterial vein in my left leg from my knee to my gr...

In 1998 I had a winged scapular after surgery.

My neurologist at that time. He put me on MS contin. In 1998, I was out of my mind in pain. I stopped taking the ms contin. I didn't fill the last Rx for my pain. I called my neurologist and told him that I wasn't taking it anymore. He said I was a good girl. I thought that painful experience was over. I was Dx with ms in 2004. I'm in pain again. The worst pain I ever had was from the winged scapular. My new neurologist told me that he will never give me pain medicine because I took ms contin and I could have gotten addicted to it. My leg hurts a lot now. I have never been treated like trash like this guy is doing to me now. I have ms fatigue. He doesn't want to see my medical records from my previous neurologist. I don't know what this guy is thinking. I should be a...

I picked up my script and was given different pills. my script is for oxycontin but i think these are morphine. They are small orange round pills with ABG on one side and 60 on the other... what are they?? any help would be great. ## you are correct-it's morphine 60 mg or aka MS Contin ## Yes, Greg is correct. The same answer was also posted in a related discussion thread. It seems like this is commonly being mistaken as Oxycontin when it is in fact Morphine Sulfate CR 60 mg. Please feel free to post back if there are any other questions or information to add about this. ## AS A RULE OF THUMB ms& oxy after ten mg is oxy goes 10 20 40 80 160 mg ms cotin would be 15 30 60 and 100 mg ## purple or dark blue size of ms cotin 30 mg blank on one side S193 on outher was with my ms 100 m...

how much MS Contin to overdose
2 Replies RSS
I was wondering how many MS Contin 30 mg pills would it take to overdose a 100 pound female that has a high tolerance for pain pills. All kinds. ## Dear Coon lady, It's difficult to tell if your intention actually IS to overdose... OR if you're just trying to be extra cautious about taking too many at once and over stepping your boundaries due to having a higher tolerance? I hope it's the latter of the two. And if it is, my suggestion would be that you shouldn't take any more than prescribed if you're trying to play it safe. In the event that you do need something stronger to relieve the pain, that would be something to discuss with your doctor in more detail. I know there are higher doses of MS Contin available (60mg and 100mg respectively). But if none of that appl...

insurance-Humana prescription through disability
6 Replies RSS
Does anyone have Humana prescription insurance through disability? My Humana will only pay for 2 long acting pain meds which are MS Contin and fentanyl patches...I've tried the patches and I have a severe allergic reaction to them as they cause itching and burning to my skin and the Morphine ER doesn't seem to work at all. They cover the short acting pain meds no problem it's just the long acting. Even a prior authorization from the doctor won't get any others covered? ## What dosage of the MS Contin are you taking? You may need to speak to your doctor about raising it. The FDA lists Morphine as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Mylan Ms Contin
19 Replies RSS
My pharmacy was out of my regular brand ms contin, I had to wait a few days (they suddenly didn't have the medication I got there for over 10 years. seems strange to me. A day or two after I started taking these, my leg pain came back, I have burning pain all the time, with my regular brand ( I think they are by Purdue) small darker blue pills, I never had pain even if I overworked my leg. These new ones are larger and made by mylan, they seem to work ok in the morning, but the pain gets worse when I usually do things in the afternoon. The others stay with me all day, I start to get pain late in the evening a few hours before my next pill is due. I have learned to live with the others, got things I needed to be done, with these I can see me becoming a couch potato. Has anyone experie...

pain relief ms contin morphine methadone
2 Replies RSS
I really need some advice here. I am a cancer patient with a rare tumor. I have taken OxyContin 60MG and OxyCodone 5MG for breakthrough for over 10 years. My DR and I agree it is time to try other medications as I need more pain relief. I do not yet know how many MG he will prescribe for any of these medications. I realize that it would be easier to help answer my questions but any input in general I appreciate. He has given me 3 different meds to choose from: Ms Contin , Morphine & Methadone. Hoping to get others opinions on these. Whether it's regarding pain relief, side effects, etc. Whether it's just about the medication or about in comparison to my current pain meds. I think he will keep me on the 5mg Oxycodone for breakthroughs ( although not positive. ) ANY and ALL th...

Moving to Florida
Post a Reply
As most of you here, I've been taking MS Contin 60 mg and Oxycodone IR for break through among other meds of course. I have had RSD/CRPS for 26 years and Lupus for about 5 years. I live in PA now and never really considered the ramifications of moving to a state with such pain med issues. Due to job loss I've had to reschedule my meds taking fewer of them and being in worse pain. I don't want to find just a prescribing doctor. I want to continue my treatment. Any advice?

Pain Medicine Doctor in Virginia
Post a Reply
I just moved to Fredericksburg/DC Metro area of Virginia from Florida. I have severe chronic spinal pain from bulging lumbar discs, bone spurs, spinal stenosis and scoliosis (in mid/upper spine). My doctor that was treating me in FL had me on 60mg MS Contin 2xday and 10mg Percocet 4xday. Which makes it able for me to function with a lowered amount of pain. I went through 3 other doctors over the years that prescribed too little or too much before I found him. I would like to find a doctor/pain clinic that will prescribe me the same or similar in/around the Fredericksburg/DC Metro area of Virginia as opposed to having to drive back to my Florida doctor every month. Does anyone know of any in these areas?
