How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 19)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I have been on subs for 5 yrs, I lowered my dose to just a tiny piece of the film, every 24hrs. I'm on day 5 but the anxiety is still there. Lots of Benadryl & the valerian has helped too. For as little I was taking I can't believe how horrible it is.

Eva I need to know that dose you started at and now how much are you taking every 5 days. I don't recommend this type of taper . I can give a successful one but need some facts fist.

It's day 31 off Subutex, i'm still experiencing the horrors of withdrawal, my doctor says that it's depression because Subutex withdrawal should have subsided by now. Then today i had a headache so i took 200mg of Tramadol, and it's magic, all my symptoms disappeared, but i've read a horrifying information, (Taking Tramadol during Subutex withdrawal will reset the clock and i'm back to square one), i felt like a vague of terror invading my body, is it true, tell me it's not. Is there an Angel here to answer me, i'm desperate.

Hi Sammy.
I didn't want to leave you hanging with anxiety, so first a short reply before I do some research and get back to you. I do not believe for one moment that a single tramadol would set you back to square one in the process of withdrawing from subs. I do however know from experience, that withdrawl has residual side effects that can last and even come and go for months. I have seen many cases where people swear it took 33 days to feel " normal" again. I tend to agree that depression can linger the longest, but you would know the difference between that and other symptoms. The worst thing you can do for yourself now is allow anxiety to " flood in"the mind is a very powerful thing and you can choose to stay calm or to panic. You should be very proud of getting through an entire month already and I think you will begin to feel better with each day now. I will get back to you with some more information on the tramadol. Keep posting if you can. :) Good Job! And Good luck

hey people, i have a question. i was on suboxone for a year. i was not addicted to opiates before i started suboxone, i was an alcoholic. my doc said that the suboxone would cause me to not want to drink. she was right, but she never mentioned the withdrawals. i quit suboxone last week. i tapered from 16mg to 4mg in just 7 days like the doc said. so i was taking 16mg of suboxone a day for 12 months and a one week taper . so ive been waiting on the hell that everyone talks about, on day 3 i got a runny nose and very mild RLS, but by day 4 it was gone, and i feel perfectly normal now at day 8!?
so my question is, SINCE I DIDNT HAVE AN OPIATE ADDICTION BEFORE STARTING SUBOXONE, IS THAT WHY IM NOT HAVING EVEN THE SMALLEST SYMPTOMS OF WITHDRAWAL?
i was very afraid of withdrawals because 15 yrs ago i was addicted to methadone for 2 yrs and cold turkey'ed that and thought i was dead. but now im fine and its strange because i read 100s of posts about the hell suboxone puts u thru. DID I DODGE THE BULLET? im comin up on 9 days off 4mg last dose.thanks to anyone who replies!

Thanks a lot OmgMomma for your answer and encouragments, actually taking Tramadol didn't bring me back to square one, but the doctor warned me that it can impede my progress. Anyway, i'm on day 36 off Sub, i don't feel as well as i want to be. maybe i was very optimistic about getting rid of withdrawal soon, it may take time to really feel back to normal again, And even if i have the support of family and my boyfriend, which helps a lot, i believe that withdrawal i something i should go through all by myself. Good luck.

O I'm so glad to hear back from you! I know it's quite a journey and although having loved ones support is helpful, it is a very personal experience. I feel as long as long as there is no negativity and or judgments, a stronger person is what will come through on the other side. You should be very proud of yourself, many can't do it alone. Keep in touch :)

I am on day 19 of withdrawls from suboxone. I am still having 3 sneezes at least every 6 hours. I sneeze 3 times in a row without no control of preventing . I'm still having restless legs at night and have to take 800mg ibuprofen and 400mg neurontin. Without the mess I would not sleep at all!! Struggling for energy during the day. I had only taken a tiny piece daily about 2 mg off my strip and tapered down to 1/8 of the strip PRob 1 mg for 2 weeks then I took that much every 3 days for 9 days then stopped. Thought the taper would prevent these wothdrawals but it did not. Amazing how strong just a tiny slice is. The Drs have no ideas. They told me if I was on that tiny piece It was just in my head!! No way these restless legs at night are in my imagination and these sneezes during say. Baffles my mind! Sneezing is the weirdest thing . I cannot understand why this Happens.

Hi sneezy.! I wanted to let you know that you are not crazy and it is not in your head! Everybody is differentv yes that's true however the sneezing is not so surprising and sometimes the symptoms that the " professionals" say they are baffled about can actually be explained with some common sense. With opiate withdrawal there is almost always runny or stuffy nose, there is often a tickle in back of throat that causes an irritating urge to cough. All of these types of symptoms would fall into the " antihistamine, breathing related effects of using and or stopping theses drugs. Believe me the way I figured out that the opiates I was prescribed and told to take regularly were cause sing a physical dependency was because if I went too long without a dose I would start to sneeze. Only with me I would begin the sneeze with a full on inhalation and tickle in my nose only to continue gasping and taking in the air without the full release of the actual sneezing out. Sometimes it would feel as if I was going to choke as hrs of the " hu hu hu ....without getting through the choo! Before needing a breath for more hu hu' hu's! Lol! It looked and felt crazy! It sounds as if your getting close to the end and you are taking all the things I would be taking, hopefully you can add some tepid baths with Ebpsom salts for the restless legs and a little Benadryl may help the sneezing and sleep,at night. I also find leg cramp creams with quinine and or arnica to be helpful and as long as you are not having constipation problems amodium D ( over the counter) high dose of that takes all the symptoms away for most people. Keep me posted hang in there you are doing great!,

Thanks for replying ! Nice to hear that the sneezing is not all in my head! Benadryl makes me drowsy half the next day.. I hate it. What is the amodium for? I am freaking thinking my body is low on potassiuim because of restless legs!?

I must say buprenorphine is really a hard one to withdraw from. Some 6 or 7 years ago i quit subutex head on. I believe i was ill for at least three months. I had been taking the drug then for a couple of years. 8mgs a day. I managed to stay off opiates for about four years all togther. But instead i medicated myself with amphetamine. No syringes involved. I just swallowed it like medicine. It was a conscious decision. I'm a pain patient, but I had had it after 20 years of opiate treatment for pain in legs and stomach. Anyway.. finally i was in too much pain again. So i quit the amphetamines, no major problem. Cant even be compared with quitting opiates. Now I'm back on the subutex for my pain. This time 24mgs a day, after a brief period of methadone, which I couldn't stand the side effects of. The subutex works great for me. It is as good a pain relief as methadone, up to a level. And that level is still ok with me. I have just about max dose of buprenorphine. So if the pain gets any worse, they probably need to swap me to methadone again. But i hope not. I have heard that the roof analgesic of buprenorphine lyes between 24 -32 mgs a day. Above that it has no therapeutic effect on the pain. But they might be able to add another 8mgs then if by any chance the pain gets worse. But so far I'm very pleased with this medicine

It's day 36 off Subutex and no relief for me, does that make sens, or is it another problem that Subutex was hiding. I'm contantly lying for my absence from work. I only took (1-2)mg a day for only 3 months (all that because of Codeine addiction for 1.5 years). I took everything possible: Ambien (no effect on insomnia), Pot (very little help), Apirin (nothing), Klonopin (some relief), Ritaline (worsened insomnia), Multivitamines (don't really know), Clonidine (that helped but i stopped it now). Magnisium (very subtle effect), Immodium (noticed nothing), Alcohol ( i don't like it). So do you think that it's just a question of time that heals everything, no matter what we do, we'll have to go through the hell. I'm desperate.

Hi again sneezy! I agree with the benedryl thing, don't like it either :) as far as amodium goes, and since you didn't already know about this, we may have just found your ticket to feeling much better! Amodium as you know is over the counter for diarreha. Years ago you had to have a prescription for it because it is actually an opiate, however it does not pass the blood brain barrier so it does not cause any type of euphoria. Finally after years of studies and confirming the fact that it was not addicting and can not make you feel high, it became available over the counter. Because it acts in the body as an opiate, but not in the brain higher doses of it can take away even the worst symptoms of withdrawal. I have seen it stop withdrawal dead in its tracks within an hour of taking it. Even in heavy H and iv users. Because it can cause severe constipation and so does opiates, it's not usually the first choice, but of corse we both know it would be a fair trade off when you're in the throwes of it. I would say since you are so far past the worst that it wouldn't take much to do the trick for your remaining symptoms. You can research it more on line if you would like but I recommend you get either the liquid or pill form of amodium D and just take about one or two doses, wait about an hr and decide if that did the trick or if you should take a bit more. It doesn't matter time of day as it has no other side effects and I'm certain it will make you be able to get through those leg cramps and sleep. Let me know!

I'm on day 16 and I feel like the worst is over but I still have lingering anxiety, like I took a big dose of diet pills. I had to make myself get up and start walking for 30 to 45 min it helped. It does seem never ending.

MY LAST UPDATE: it's my day 38 off Sub, today i feel really good, it's been a long journey with a lot of pain and misery, but it was really worth it, i know that maybe some symptoms might come and go in waves, but today i made the decision not to feel miserable anymore. My life starts again and even if this might be my last post in this website, i thank you from my the bottom of my heart for your help and support, it really helped me go through these tough times. I don't think i'm gonna be on these websites again cause they remind of a time in my life i want to forget, and i want to move on and leave all that behind me, hope i could help someone going through this hell and tell him stay strong it's worth it. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU AND GOOD LUCK. BE HAPPY AND HEALTHY.

Would love to have it now but store is too far! Thanks so much I can't wait to try. I have to work tomorrow and hope it will help me get through :).
