Neurontin Made Me Feel Euphoric
11 Replies RSS
I was prescribed neurontin by my doctor. I only took 3 capsules of the 300mg capsules. It made me happy and giggly and I felt like I was floating. I didn't feel angry or as if I wanted to hurt someone as I normally feel daily. Why? ## Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is actually an anticonvulsant, so it works on brain chemicals, this it can cause the effects you experienced in some people, which is why there are warnings that some people are more prone to abuse it. For this same reason, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments? ## Wow. That is quite a reaction for such a small dosage. I take 1200 mg, 3 times daily. Been taking it for neuropathy for 10 years. ## Can you...

being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. crying, anxious, and what no one mentions itching all over! have tried antihistamines, cortizone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itching, ...

Need a pain dr. in south Georgia ASAP. Needing a doctor that can prescribe sufficient amounts of pain medication so that I can function. I have a lot of back problems compounded by fibromyalgia and so on. ## It looks like law enforcement has been cracking down on the pill mills over there, so they may not be as generous as they might have been in the past: ajc.com/news/massive-pill-mill-raid-1227391.html n regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: {link removed because site no longer exists} Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consid...

Dangerous Cocktail: Neurontin and Opiates
13 Replies RSS
One of the contraindications while taking Neurontin is using opiates such as Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and Oyxcodone (Percocet). The opiates potentiate the effect of Neurotin by 14%. With Morphine, it increases the effect of Neurotin by 44%. My husband was on Neurontin at 900 mg a day (taken in three doses). At that time, he was not taking much of his pain killer, Oxycodone (Percocet), maybe one 5mg dose a night. My husband was originally took Neurotin for shingles nerve pain. His doctor decided to increase his dose of Neurontin to 1800 mg per day (three equal doses). Before that time, my husband increased his Oxycodone to two 5mg tablets before bedtime and another 5mg tablet about four hours later. Upon the increase in Neurontin, my husband started to experience some adverse effects. These...

my 15 year old daughter is on 400 mg of neurontin 3x a day i just found out she has been skipping doses for the last three days how bad this
2 Replies RSS
My daughte is on neurontin for epilepsy, she also has an arachnoid cyst and an aneurysm. I found out she has skipped three days of doses( I counted her pills). How bad could this be? ## Hello, Pitbull mommy! How is your daughter doing? If she's taking it to prevent seizures, then you need to stress to her the importance of taking it all the time, as prescribed. Missing doses, even if someone doesn't have epilepsy, creates the risk of seizures. Since she does have epilepsy, her risk of having a seizure from skipping doses is even higher. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have always never been able to focus IR concentrate. When I went to a drug rehab when I was ALOT younger th...

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin

I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

I found a bottle of my gabapentin 600's in a bottle in the closet and I don't want to just pitch them if they're usable because I don't have insurance and they're expensive. What do you think? ## Hello, Lee! How are you? They should be disposed of if they are past the expiration date on the label. That is the longest period of time they be guaranteed to retain efficacy under normal storage conditions. This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I found a bottle of gabapentin from 2014 would they still be good ## It would stil be good just mabe not as effective.Your right they are expensive. Recently my dosage has been increased from 300mg to 600mg.Getting crampy calf muscles and pins and needle sensations in my feet and hands.Any ideas out there, can this Drug cause this? ## Hello, Jamesie! How are you? It is normal to experience more side effects, when going to a higher dosage of a medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and mood swings. However, side effects are usually transient and should go away in a few weeks, once your body gets used to a new medication. If they get severe or linger after about 4 to 6 weeks, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?
