Neurontin Overview

Gabapentin (Neurontin) is an anticonvulsant and analgesic drug. It was originally developed to treat epilepsy, and is currently also used to relieve neuropathic pain. It is recommended as a first line agent for the treatment of neuropathic pain arising from diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, and central neuropathic pain.[3] Gabapentin is also commonly prescribed for many off-label uses, such as treatment of restless leg syndrome, anxiety disorders,[4][5] insomnia, and bipolar disor...

How long does neurontin/gabapentin stay good if they are in a medicine bottle sealed?
I found a bottle of my gabapentin 600's in a bottle in the closet and I don't want to just pitch them if they're usable because I don't have insurance and they're expensive. What do you think? ## Hello, Lee! How are you? They should be disposed of if they are past the expiration date on the label. That is the longest period of time they be guaranteed to retain efficacy under normal storage conditions. This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with?

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin
I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

600mg Neurontin
I have been taking the above for approx 4 months . I have been cutting down to 1 a day over two weeks and not taken any for the last few days . I am feeling very nauseous since doing this could this be connected. ## Hello, Darbie! How are you? Yes, that was a pretty rapid taper, so withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness and diarrhea are to be expected. Why did you stop taking it? Have you been having a problem with the medication? ## Stopped taking cos I have been having tummy problems also for about 6 months on and off. Scans Cts you name it and they can't find out why. So tried stopping all Meds to see if it helped.

New user of neurontin
A dermatologist prescribed Neurontin (400mg 3x daily) for neuropathic brachioradial pruritis. Anyone else have this? I started taking it last night and took one this AM. It made m every drowsy. Does this go away in time? (It's about 4 hours since I took it and I feel less drowsy although I don't think I would droive my car.) ## Hello, Pikov! How are you? Neurontin is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain. Drowsiness can be a normal side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Yes, it should taper off in severity, after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## At this point, I'm up to 2400 mg/day. The itching has subsided, but I've gained more than...

South Georgia Pill Mills Still Open For Buisness
need a pain dr. in south georgia asap. I say a pill mill jusdt because they prescribe good amounts usually but I am a completely on the up and up and have alot of back problems compounded by fibromyalgia and so on. ## It looks like law enforcement has been cracking down on the pill mills over there, so they may not be as generous as they might have been in the past: n regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:

dizziness after stopping neurontin
How long can dizziness last after stopping Neurontin? ## Hello, Marykay! How are you? I'm sorry that you're experiencing dizziness. How long were you taking it and how much? Did you just stop cold turkey or taper? These details will all play a role in the answer to your question. It may take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. If you stopped cold turkey, there could also be a risk of seizures. ## Thanks. I did stop taking it cold turkey but didn't experience a seizure and about a week later the dizziness stopped. I just may not be able to take it. Haven't seen the Dr. who prescribed it yet.

gabapentin withdrawals
being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. crying, anxious, and what no one mentions itching all over! have tried antihistamines, cortizone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itching, ...

Nerve Pain (Fibromyalgia)
I have been taking Gabapintin (Neurontin) for fibromyalgia pain. Although it has worked well I have gained close to 35 pounds. Does anyone know of a anti-nerve pain pill that does not cause weight gain. ## There is really no way a doctor or anyone else can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug. Personally, I think if you are able to do so, that a significant change in diet and exercise habits would prove to be effective. From what I can tell, the medication you are taking may cause cravings and/or pro...
