Neurontin Overview

Gabapentin, marketed under the brand name Neurontin among others, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and hot flashes.[3] It is also used for restless leg syndrome.[4] It is recommended as a first line agent for the treatment of neuropathic pain arising from diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, and central neuropathic pain.[5] It is a lipophilic structural analogue of the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. crying, anxious, and what no one mentions itching all over! have tried antihistamines, cortizone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itching, ...

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin

I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

Neurontin/Gabapentin Withdrawal Question.
3 Replies RSS
Hello. I'm very new to this drug, only 7 days.I am a diabetic with bi-polar/anxiety. I was recently put on Gabapentin 300mg. 1 pill for 4 days and then told to take 1 pill 2 times a day after. I have been experiencing some normal side effects such as sleepiness, a little anxiety (it hits me for about an hour and then goes away completely) and a little bit of a loopy feeling. I did not realize I was past the 4 days and had only been taking one pill (my memory has been terrible the past few days), so I was going to start taking the 2 pills yesterday (Feb 20th). I forgot the 2nd dosage on the 20th and did not realize it until the 21st after I started feeling a crazy rapid heartbeat, severe anxiety (i wrestled with it for about 4 hours before calming down), as well as dizziness and the ...

Dangerous Cocktail: Neurontin and Opiates

One of the contraindications while taking Neurontin is using opiates such as Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and Oyxcodone (Percocet). The opiates potentiate the effect of Neurotin by 14%. With Morphine, it increases the effect of Neurotin by 44%. My husband was on Neurontin at 900 mg a day (taken in three doses). At that time, he was not taking much of his pain killer, Oxycodone (Percocet), maybe one 5mg dose a night. My husband was originally took Neurotin for shingles nerve pain. His doctor decided to increase his dose of Neurontin to 1800 mg per day (three equal doses). Before that time, my husband increased his Oxycodone to two 5mg tablets before bedtime and another 5mg tablet about four hours later. Upon the increase in Neurontin, my husband started to experience some adverse effects. These...

how long does it take neurontin to get out of your system
4 Replies RSS
I have been prescribed Neurontin and would like to know how long does it take to come out of your system? It is causing too many problems for me. Can you stop suddenly or do you have to ween your self from them?? ## Hi, Sweet Pea! Sorry about the problems that it's causing you. What types of symptoms have you been experiencing? How long have you been taking it? If you've been on it for awhile, at a high dose, suddenly stopping it could cause a risk of seizures, since it's an anticonvulsant. It is generally best to taper off of these types of medications. Have you discussed it with your doctor? Learn more Neurontin details here. ## I'm not on gabapentin anymore. I took one 300 mg 3 months ago that my Dr told me to take for my nerve pain and m.s. but I took a drug panel on...

They have both been shown to be effective for some people, but the only way to see which one helps you is by trying one. They are both classified by the FDA as anticonvulsants that are approved to treat nerve pain and some mood disorders. Their typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Which one has your doctor recommended?

Terrible side effects from Neurontin
5 Replies RSS
I took Neurontin back in January 2014. I took the lowest dose for 4 days. I got severe face and neck tremors. Those eventually went away After seeing a Neurologist and medication. What has not gone away is my severe voice problem. Neurontin has ruined my voice. I have been to a Neurollogist, 2 ENT'S, 2 Voice doctors and have been to speech therapy on two separate occasions. If you look under Pfizer Neurontin side effects you will get a very detailed list of side effects including my side effects. I would never suggest anyone take this medicine because there are so many side effects and you don't know which ones you will get. And like me you don't know how long they will last. Remember mine started in Jan 2014 and I don't know if I will ever get my normal voice back. It r...
