Dangerous Combination: Neurontin and Opiates
35 Replies RSS
One of the contraindications while taking Neurontin is using opiates such as Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and Oyxcodone (Percocet). The opiates potentiate the effect of Neurotin by 14%. With Morphine, it increases the effect of Neurotin by 44%. My husband was on Neurontin at 900 mg a day (taken in three doses). At that time, he was not taking much of his pain killer, Oxycodone (Percocet), maybe one 5mg dose a night. My husband was originally took Neurotin for shingles nerve pain. His doctor decided to increase his dose of Neurontin to 1800 mg per day (three equal doses). Before that time, my husband increased his Oxycodone to two 5mg tablets before bedtime and another 5mg tablet about four hours later. Upon the increase in Neurontin, my husband started to experience some adverse effects. These...

South Georgia Pain Management Still Open For Buisness
112 Replies RSS
Need a pain dr. in south Georgia ASAP. Needing a doctor that can prescribe sufficient amounts of pain medication so that I can function. I have a lot of back problems compounded by fibromyalgia and so on. ## It looks like law enforcement has been cracking down on the pill mills over there, so they may not be as generous as they might have been in the past: ajc.com/news/massive-pill-mill-raid-1227391.html n regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: {link removed because site no longer exists} Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consid...

gabapentin withdrawals
249 Replies RSS
being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. crying, anxious, and what no one mentions itching all over! have tried antihistamines, cortizone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itching, ...

Gabapentin / Withdrawal
Post a Reply
I have taken Gabapentin for over seven years for pain. I have Rhuematoid Arthritis. I recently read how Gabapentin can cause brain lapses and cause Alzheimer's symptoms. I have been experiencing forgetfulness. I want to be off of this drug and decided to quit. I was taking 1800 mgs daily and am down to taking 300 mgs daily. My withdrawal symptoms have been feeling like I am dying, terrible sweating, intense itching, nausea, stomach pain/diahrea, can't sleep, nightmares, headache. I am not giving in.... I want off of this. When these symptoms ease up (I pray they do) I will cut my pills in half and take only 150 mgs daily.... until gradually I have stopped. My Dr also over seven years ago put me on Cymbalta for pain.... I gradually stopped taking it a year ago.... I thought that was

What Does Neurontin Show Up As On A Drug Screen
86 Replies RSS
Does anyone know if Neurontin shows up as anything on a drug screen? ## No, Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, it is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to be effective at treating certain types of nerve pain, so it is not a substance that is included on drug test panels. It has also not been known to cause false positives for anything else. Learn more Neurontin details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Neurontin only shows up as neurontin or gabapenton and is rarely tested for. I'm in drug court and they test us for everything including neurontin and ultram/ultracet ## Going to Dr tomorrow for migraines. My Friend gave me nuerotin. And buspar. Is this going to show up in blood or urine ## Thank u so much foe the answer to my question. My mom ...

Neurontin Made Me Feel Euphoric
19 Replies RSS
I was prescribed neurontin by my doctor. I only took 3 capsules of the 300mg capsules. It made me happy and giggly and I felt like I was floating. I didn't feel angry or as if I wanted to hurt someone as I normally feel daily. Why? ## Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is actually an anticonvulsant, so it works on brain chemicals, this it can cause the effects you experienced in some people, which is why there are warnings that some people are more prone to abuse it. For this same reason, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments? ## Wow. That is quite a reaction for such a small dosage. I take 1200 mg, 3 times daily. Been taking it for neuropathy for 10 years. ## Can you...

Nerve Pain (Fibromyalgia)
8 Replies RSS
I have been taking Gabapintin (Neurontin) for fibromyalgia pain. Although it has worked well I have gained close to 35 pounds. Does anyone know of a anti-nerve pain pill that does not cause weight gain. ## There is really no way a doctor or anyone else can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug. Personally, I think if you are able to do so, that a significant change in diet and exercise habits would prove to be effective. From what I can tell, the medication you are taking may cause cravings and/or pro...

Stopping Neurontin after 2 days
1 Reply RSS
I am flushing them down the commode. I started yesterday at 300 milligrams of neurontin. I had two doses today. I was on percocet 10 mg for 4 months due to a spinal fracture and edema. I had slammed into an object and broke my nose, but the MRI also showed a spinal injury. After reading about all the side effects and experiences of other patients on these medications, i'd rather take the pain. ## What side effects are you concerned about? Perhaps those can be addressed to help you feel better/safer about taking it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Additionally, please do not flush medications. That causes contamination of our ground water.

best generic brand of neurontin 2015
1 Reply RSS
My pharmacy has recently stopped carrying Actavis generic Neurontin 100 mg. They also said they "could not order Actavis for me". So, I ended up purchasing the Brand Neurontin. My insurance picked up some but it was still $$$. Now that I've tried the brand it seems to work better at neuropathic pain control. Just wondering in May 2015 if anyone in the USA has found a generic Neurontin that they really like or works for them? I live in a small area with very few pharmacy options other than 2 big box chains. The monopoly works to their advantage as they rarely ever will 'order' any generic a person asks for. You tend to have to take whatever they are pushing that month. Picking up a script is like playing "musical chairs", every month or two a pill is a differe...

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin
267 Replies RSS
I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

How long does neurontin/gabapentin stay good if they are in a medicine bottle sealed?
8 Replies RSS
I found a bottle of my gabapentin 600's in a bottle in the closet and I don't want to just pitch them if they're usable because I don't have insurance and they're expensive. What do you think? ## Hello, Lee! How are you? They should be disposed of if they are past the expiration date on the label. That is the longest period of time they be guaranteed to retain efficacy under normal storage conditions. This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I found a bottle of gabapentin from 2014 would they still be good ## It would stil be good just mabe not as effective.Your right they are expensive. Neurontin/Gabapentin Withdrawal Question.
18 Replies RSS
Hello. I'm very new to this drug, only 7 days.I am a diabetic with bi-polar/anxiety. I was recently put on Gabapentin 300mg. 1 pill for 4 days and then told to take 1 pill 2 times a day after. I have been experiencing some normal side effects such as sleepiness, a little anxiety (it hits me for about an hour and then goes away completely) and a little bit of a loopy feeling. I did not realize I was past the 4 days and had only been taking one pill (my memory has been terrible the past few days), so I was going to start taking the 2 pills yesterday (Feb 20th). I forgot the 2nd dosage on the 20th and did not realize it until the 21st after I started feeling a crazy rapid heartbeat, severe anxiety (i wrestled with it for about 4 hours before calming down), as well as dizziness and the ...

Neurontin in Recovery
3 Replies RSS
I am in Recovery for 8 years 7 months from a severe opiate addiction. I abused painkillers for nearly ten years. I underwent rapid opiate detox. I was given Neurontin upon discharge for the residual withdrawal to combat agitation, mood swings, irritability etc; After 30 days, the rx ran out and I didn't see the need to refill it. After all, it wasn't giving me instant gratification. However, when I stopped taking it, I began go from crying uncontrollably to dangerous road rage to nearly killing my husband throwing a blender at his head. So I went back on it. I've been on it for almost 9 years. I have never abused it or taken more than prescribed. If anything I've titrated down or taken less but have never been able to get off. Two doctors that know of my history of addic...

neurontin 400mg the drug store change the color of the pills
1 Reply RSS
I was talking Gabapentin 400 mg capsule orange and white but after 5 years the store change to Gabapentin 400 mg orange brown i don't know what to do because I loss weight with orange white and i don't want to gain weight i was 290 I'm at 220 do you think i may got the wrong one ## This is a generic medication, so whichever one your pharmacy carries may changed, depending on who was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. What are the markings on them? That is what would enable me to check more information for you. Can you please post back with this information? Thanks!

neuronton. WORRIED!
1 Reply RSS
Our doctor prescribed neuronton for my husband, he has had 2 strokes plus dementia. She has now taken him off the medication.I don't understand why? He was doing so well on it to my knowledge. He was doing things for himself with little help from me. Such as dressing himself, showering by himself while I standby. He'd have me print out our names etc.to relearn.printing out our names. He would even go.as far as getting out his weights for a little exercizing. To me he is now back.to square 1. Upset& confused! ## Have you discussed this with his doctor? Did she prescribe any other medications? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Neurontin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and mood swings.
