gabapentin withdrawals
78 Replies RSS
being taken off of neurontin/gabapentin after seven years. crying, anxious, and what no one mentions itching all over! have tried antihistamines, cortizone creams but w/ no relief. ## yes this is normal I went through the same thing. I was on 3600 for eight years. I weaned off very slowly. I started weening off in 2008. I am now down to 400mg and go down about 100 a week. Its so awful ## These types of problems are normal from a sudden withdrawal of any medication that affects brain chemicals, which is exactly what Gabapentin does, since it was initially discovered as an anticonvulsant. Unfortunately, since you were on it for so long, it is probably going to take several weeks for these effects to wear off, though they should gradually improve and lessen in severity. As to the itching, ...

Neurontin Made Me Feel Euphoric
8 Replies RSS
I was introduced to neurontin by my boyfriend. He used it for recreation and said it made him feel chill. He would take 9 capsules so I only took 3 capsules of the 300mg capsules. It made me happy and giggley and I felt like I was floating. I didn't feel angry or as if I wanted to hurt someone as I normally feel daily. Why? ## Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is actually an anticonvulsant, so it works on brain chemicals, this it can cause the effects you experienced in some people, which is why there are warnings that some people are more prone to abuse it. For this same reason, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder. Learn more: Are there any other questions or comments? ## Wow. That is quite a reaction for such a small...

Neurontin in Recovery
2 Replies RSS
I am in Recovery for 8 years 7 months from a severe opiate addiction. I abused painkillers for nearly ten years. I underwent rapid opiate detox. I was given Neurontin upon discharge for the residual withdrawal to combat agitation, mood swings, irritability etc; After 30 days, the rx ran out and I didn't see the need to refill it. After all, it wasn't giving me instant gratification. However, when I stopped taking it, I began go from crying uncontrollably to dangerous road rage to nearly killing my husband throwing a blender at his head. So I went back on it. I've been on it for almost 9 years. I have never abused it or taken more than prescribed. If anything I've titrated down or taken less but have never been able to get off. Two doctors that know of my history of addic...

A dermatologist prescribed Neurontin (400mg 3x daily) for neuropathic brachioradial pruritis. Anyone else have this? I started taking it last night and took one this AM. It made m every drowsy. Does this go away in time? (It's about 4 hours since I took it and I feel less drowsy although I don't think I would droive my car.) ## Hello, Pikov! How are you? Neurontin is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain. Drowsiness can be a normal side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Yes, it should taper off in severity, after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## At this point, I'm up to 2400 mg/day. The itching has subsided, but I've gained more than...

Sudden Withdrawal from Neurontin
223 Replies RSS
I have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 4x a day for about 2 years and recentlty ran out of this medication due to excrutiating slow service from mandatory mail order RX company.... I was extremely agitated during this time (approx. 5 days), nervous, stressed out, etc. Has anyone else had these symptons as a result of sudden withdrawal from Neurontin? I can't understand why this happened, I felt so scared and lousy for that time. Is this a known reaction for this med? I haven't been able to find an answer. I take it for relief from carpel tunnel syndrom. Thanks ## Almost any med, or substance, even you morning coffee, will cause some withdrawal symptoms when you have been used to having it in your body for awhile, and suddenly stop taking it. Did it ease when you finally started ...

How long is Neurontin active in your body?
1 Reply RSS
How long does Neurontin remain active in your body before being excreted? ## Hello, Kevin! How are you? The FDA classifies this medication as an anticonvulsant, which is also used to treat certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and dry mouth. It's half-life is approximately 5 to 7 hours and it takes 5 to 6 half-lives to be fully processed from your body, so it would be fully excreted in approximately 30 to 42 hours. Is there anything else I can help with?

What Does Neurontin Show Up As On A Drug Screen
18 Replies RSS
Does anyone know if Neurontin shows up as anything on a drug screen? ## No, Neurontin contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, it is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to be effective at treating certain types of nerve pain, so it is not a substance that is included on drug test panels. It has also not been known to cause false positives for anything else. Learn more Neurontin details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Neurontin only shows up as neurontin or gabapenton and is rarely tested for. need a pain dr. in south georgia asap. I say a pill mill jusdt because they prescribe good amounts usually but I am a completely on the up and up and have alot of back problems compounded by fibromyalgia and so on. ## It looks like law enforcement has been cracking down on the pill mills over there, so they may not be as generous as they might have been in the past: ajc.com/news/massive-pill-mill-raid-1227391.html n regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: {link removed because site no longer exists} You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another: wellness.com/fi...

Sulphur

I can't take any medications with sulphur in them. I was prescribed Schuessler Tissue Salts Water Eliminator Nat Sulph for swollen feet caused by increase of dosage of Neurontin each tablet contains 0.5mcg of the Mineral Tissue Salt Sodium Sulphate in a lactose base should these be ok for me to take. ## Hello, Des! How are you? Sulfur is the base for many medications. However, are you allergic to it? If not and your doctor has prescribed them, then it should be okay for you to take them. However, a sulphate is not straight sulfur, it is one of its salts. Typical side effects usually include nausea, increased urination and dehydration, according to the product information.

stop itch
1 Reply RSS
I stopped neurontin on July 3, 2014. On July 7, I started itching so bad that I didn't know what to do. Does this seem like it is related? I was thinking about asking my doctor to go back on it. Would this help with severe itching and feeling scratchy all over my body? Thank you! I hope you can help me. ## Hello, Renea! How are you? If you're still itching, after several months, it likely isn't related to stopping the medication. It could happen, at first, due to chemical changes in the body, as a withdrawal reaction, but that usually doesn't last more than a few weeks to a month. Have you been using anything else new, such a soap, shampoo, or laundry detergent? Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor about the itching?

I have been on Neurontin, Methadone, Dilaudid and Fentanyl patches for 20 years. I NEVER abused my meds or asked for extra meds. I actually took less than I was supposed to. my 15 year old daughter is on 400 mg of neurontin 3x a day i just found out she has been skipping doses for the last three days how bad this
1 Reply RSS
My daughte is on neurontin for epilepsy, she also has an arachnoid cyst and an aneurysm. I found out she has skipped three days of doses( I counted her pills). How bad could this be? ## Hello, Pitbull mommy! How is your daughter doing? If she's taking it to prevent seizures, then you need to stress to her the importance of taking it all the time, as prescribed. Missing doses, even if someone doesn't have epilepsy, creates the risk of seizures. Since she does have epilepsy, her risk of having a seizure from skipping doses is even higher. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with?
