Neurotin Long Term Use??????

Updated

I have been taken neurotin for about a year for nerve pain. It allowed me to function and work . I recently had a spinal fusion because of the pain worsening. the dr told ne the pain would instantly go away which it did for 2 weeksw but then the pain came back. so I started taking the neurotin again. I am worried about long term use . Alot of my friends say it has bad side effects and long term use is bad for the heart. Has any one heard of any thing about long term use of this neurotin. If surgery did not work I guess i will have to coninue this drug long term in order to have a better quality of life. by the way Itake 300mg 2 times aday which is a low dose and controls the pain mostly

does anyone know if Neurotin will cause weight gain. I have put on over 50 pounds from the day I started taking it. The VA doctors don't seem to care but my back is worse with all the xtra weight. I need surgery and this is the only medicine they will give me. Do I stop taking it ? The VA is no help and they don't care.

Yes, Neurontin, which contains the active ingredient Gabapentin is known by the FDA to cause weight gain in some people that take it, other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, somnolence, back pain, and diarrhea.

According to reports, taking high doses for a long period of time is known to increase the severity of the side effects you may experience, including weight gain, and mental health issues.

Connie, what else has your doctor advised? Have you done physical therapy?

Tom is this the only medication you're currently taking?
