ANYBODY.....ANYTHING????? 5HTP... ## 5HTP seems to work really well for anxiety. Are you thinking about trying it out? I have personally used 5HTP in combination with St. John's Wort for depression and anxiety and had excellent results from it. At the time I was taking about 100-150mg of 5HTP + 900mg of St. John's Worth, all split into 3 doses throughout the day. Altho I personally haven't experienced any problems while taking it or coming off of it, I recommend taking a look at the link below to view more info on 5HTP as it can effect each individual differently: Hope this helps!

My husband takes warfarin 5 mg. per day. He has a history before and after warfarin of being irritable. After I started giving him a 150 mg. of 5htp nightly, his attitude has been much better and he is in a lot better mood. Is there any danger of him taking 5htp along with the warfarin? ## Hello, Emmy Lou! How are you and your husband? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between them, but it is always best to let his doctor know that he's taking it, to be extra cautious. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Warfarin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been doing very well with Complera since January. I have been wondering if I can take 5HTP with it. I am a 50 year old female in fairly good physical health but I'm really depressed and low on energy. I use to take 5HTP a few years ago and had great results with it but need to see if it can work again. Don't want to mess up the Complera so any help would be appreciated! ## Hello, Bear 50! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between them in the MedScape database, but it's always best to double check such information to be safe, but if your doctor approves, there shouldn't be any problem with your taking it. According to the FDA, Complera is used to treat HIV and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache and insomnia. Is there anything...

Has anyone experimented with alternatives to baclofen for alchohol cravings. I'm doing pretty well on 5HTP and I'm wondering if there are others. ## 5HTP, also referred to as Oxitriptan is an essential amino acid, which is needed by our body. It helps regulate things such as Seratonin and Melatonin, which are both brain chemicals and if someone is lacking in them, as can be caused by alcohol or drug withdrawal and can cause the cravings, they can be severely effected. Therefore, it does make sense that they can help people with some forms of withdrawal and the associated cravings, since it will help keep a better balance of these chemicals in the brain. Does anyone have experience using this?

was wondering if you can take additional tabs during the day, as opposed to the 100mg. i take just in the morning. Will this interfere with sleep....is pacing it out a better option or just once a day.....or at night???? new to this med.....have been on 19 psych meds in one year time....this is the first one to make me "pop" and feel hope for a better quality of life.....can't find alot of dosing information on the net.....Any advice? ## Well, the reason you aren't finding dosing information is because this is an over the counter supplement, not an actual medication. This means that it hasn't been studied for efficacy, dosing and side effects, as is done with actual prescription drugs. I can really only suggest you talk to your doctor to get their input and/or follow...

I take 3mg of warfarin and 4 mg on 3 days also I have started tramadol 100mg twice daily. Will the tramadol cause a problem with taking warfarin too? I also take slow release 5 HTP 200 g daily. I have fibromyalgia and depression and feel better whilst on tramadol not sure about 5HTP. Would be grateful of your opinion. Thank you. ## Hello, Goldie! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but it;s always best to double check such information to be sure. The FDA classifies Tramadol as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Warfarin is a blood thinner and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding...

The only antidepressant I ever took for a short time was Zoloft to get me thru PMS. Age 56. I started taking Cymbalta 2 weeks ago and I feel wonderful. I was moody(never knew when it would happen). Sluggish, gain weight. For the short time, I have been moody one time and loose weight. Plus I'm changed my diet to eat healthier and exercising. It boost the serotonin in system. ## All SSRI's are harmful, some fatal while taking/withdrawling. Cymbalta is a dual SSRI (SSNRI). Take 5htp OTC at a health food outlet, no side effects. I've been at 60mg/day since 11/04, and I am pissed. I have diabetic neuropathy, no mental/emotional issues. Save yourself, pharma won't. In short, all SSRI's are FDA approved chemical lobotomies, and your Dr. makes money prescribing them. Good L...

Hello, I am currently withdrawing from Cymbalta. I was prescribed 90mg/daily and the requested to go down to 60mg. I recently switched jobs, so now I have no insurance to get anymore. I have tapered down to 30mg over the course of a month, then tapered down to 15mg, then 5. Now I am taking nothing. The brain zaps that I am experiencing are the absolute worst, Every time I blink, or look in a certain direction, even when I swallow, I get 2-3 brain zaps. It averages 100-200 a day. My head and back aches, I'm nauseous, I just don't know what to do. I keep crying too. I know that I have to go through with this. I feel so horrible. What can I do to ease this? I started taking 5HTP 100mg, because I read somewhere that this can help ease the transition. It does nothing. I am so lost. P...

brain star .8mg prescribed by doctor.medicine not available in leading shops.what are the side effects ? is it approved by FDA? ## Hi kurian, Side effects relating to the ingredients found in Brain Star are definitively regarded as "precautions" as opposed to "side effects". There are warnings for persons who are sensitive to bee products, as this contains beeswax. It also contains the allergenic ingredients of Soya beans (soya) and soya products. If you have any known allergies to what is mentioned above, then I would steer clear of this supplement. The majority of ingredients found in Brain Star are considered to be natural and plant-based (with no clear threat of side effects in my opinion) aside from 5HTP, which does have the potential for side effects if dosing is n...

I have been taking Travacor for a couple of months and started to have difficulty staying asleep. I now cannot fall aspeep without a sleeping pill. ## Been taking travacor for 10 months. Started waking up several times during the night, now not falling asleep. I have also taken a couple of sleeping pills or benadryl to fall asleep. I also take calm prt with the travacor 1/2 hour prior to dinner and 3 kavinace at bedtime with melatonin and and ativan. Getting discouraged! ## I took Travacor for two weeks--slept great, then one morning after that I woke up and could not walk without falling down(dizzy) it took me two days to get back to normal. I guess I had gotten too much seratonin--needless to say I have not taken any 5HTP since then. Any ideas?? ## I started taking Travacor (and Kavina...

Took one 25mg tablet of sertraline lfeel horrible. IM lightheaded, dizzy, naseous, and can't eat or even smoke a cigarette! Is this normal after just one dose? If I stand to long I feel faint and all I can do is lay in bed. Should I continue this medication if it's making me feel this horrible after just one dose? ## Sorry to hear that Sertraline isn't working out for you. This drug can cause a wide variety of side effects, many of which you can view by clicking here. nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, excessive tiredness, & headache are all regarded as common side effects. That said, I would personally suggest trying some sort of natural antidepressant or at least something that has a safer track record. Have you given any consideration towards 5HTP or St. John's Wort p...
