I have been taking Hydrocodone 10/325 for chronic pain, 1 pill every 6 hours. My Dr. just prescribed Oxycodone 5/325 with up to 2 pills every 6 hours. Which is stronger?

A 10/325 hydrocodone is is equal to .6mg of oxycodone but they don't make a .6mg oxycodone...

Trust me I know what you're talking about. I've had 9 surgeries. Back and the others are osteo issues. And yes I hurt all the time. There is not a day that goes by where I don't hurt. I have to take 15 milligrams of oxy and morphine sulfate. It makes me sleeping sometimes. So I believe your plight.

Julianna, the FDA has changed the max amount of Tylenol ( Acetaminophen) in a 24 hr period to 3,000 mg. Norco, Lortab and Vicodin are all hydrocodone/acetaminophen combination. All three were around when there was 500 mg Tylenol (Acetaminophen) allowed in prescription drugs and all three are still are. They only thing that changes was the amount of Tylenol (Acetaminophen) in each tablet. The actual names are Brand Names.

Hydrocodone/acetaminophen . In Oct 2014 the go changed the amt of tylenol a person could safely use to no more than 4000mg per day. That's when the "lortabs " were pulled from shelves bc they all had 500mg gen tylenol and re marketed as Norco with the 325mg gen tylenol. The tylenol is what causes liver damage taken in excessive amounts.

No more then 3000 mg a day or it will start to destroy the liver. Hence they took it from being 750 mg in pills (4 pills daily x 750=3000) down to 325. To be safe only add an additional 325mg per pill if you take 4 vics a day.

I've had exactly the same problem. I do great on qualitest Hydrocodone APAP 10/325 for my multitude of chronic pain DX. Doc had tried everything else and they just have too many side effects-can't focus, dizzy, sweating, nausea. I was stable on 1pill every four hours for three years and then he kept wanting to change me to another drug. It's hard to convince someone that only goes by textbooks that you get better pain relief with hydro bcz they just don't believe you. Watson sucks and makes me have anxiety. They use cornstarch as a filler so if you are allergic to corn, watch out!

Nana, oxycodone is a little stronger than hydrocodone. But, if you were taking hydrocodone 10 mg/acetaminophen 325 mg and your dr switched you to oxycodone 5 mg/acetaminophen 325 mg, that is not as strong as what you were taking before due to the decrease in dosage. If it isn't helping the pain, you need to tell your dr.

JOE, yes all hydrocodone and tylenol combination meds have 325 mg tylenol (acetaminophen). The FDA changed it in 2014 and no RX med can have more than 325 mg tylenol (acetaminophen).

That is true, as I live in Dallas and have had that problem. The manufacture of the Duragesic patch Walmart carries seems to stay on very well. Sometimes it's just hit or miss and wiping your skin off with an alcohol swab first really helps

KittyKatz , Fentanyl patchs do work well for some. But, for some getting them to stick is a problem. For many that live in humid parts of the country, they have such a hard time with them staying on that they have to go back to the pills.

Ask your doctor to put you on the fentanyl patch. If you have been on narcotics for this long your body is becoming dependent and immune to them. I had the same problem and my doctor put me on the patch. I love it. I don't get the ups and downs of the pills, I just get constant pain relief and as long as you don't abuse them you don't always find yourself wondering about your pills and how many you have and so on and so on. Those patches literally saved my life and the doctor still gave me some hydrocodone just for breakthrough pain. I do go to a pain clinic and they're very strict and I love this because it keeps me from becoming addicted and holds me accountable. Good luck with this!

They don't contain aspirin, they contain acetaminophen (Tylenol). My pain management Dr considers them to be pretty much equal (oxy vs hydro). I get much better pain relief with the oxycodone while my husband gets relief from hydro. I did a genetic swab and it showed that I am a poor metabolizer of the hydro which explains my lack of relief from the drug. I now take oxy ER with 3 percocet daily for breakthrough pain and function well enough for ADLs but am unable to work.

Living life with chronic back pain Says:
1 hydro 10/325 and 1 oxycodone 5/325 have the same amount of Tylenol in them. Now 1 percocet 5/325 is equal to 7.5 mg of hydro, so u actually could take 2 perc 5s and it would feel like u took 20 mg of hydro due to percocet being much stronger. Hope this helps! I just took 2 perc 5s this morning and it feels way better than taking 20mg of hydro.

The 325 part is actually Tylenol or acetaminophen... Not aspirin...so that additional 500 mg of Tylenol is extra harmful to your liver. My pain Dr has me on oxy/acetaminophen 5/325 and said absolutely don't take any extra Tylenol...alternate with 600 mg ibuprofen.
