Sudden Dextroamphetamine Price Quadruple????
(Newest replies first)

Updated

What happened? Oh, no... I am f+#*ed. Went to Walgreens to fill dextroamph rx tonight. Instead of approx. $75 they said for me with self-pay it's $355+!!!! This is for ONE month. No way I can afford it! Suddenly? What the _ do I do? Taper down with the 2 more days of pills that I have? So, you just blow, they are saying to me. Just be sick, and here, we'll make it so you're much, much sicker!!! Are all the pharmacies going to have the same astronomical price hike? Has anyone got information about about this?

Re: Alyssa (# 96) Expand Referenced Message

"Birth" control is a misnomer. Fertile women do not automatically get pregnant, it takes two to tango. When it comes to the rape epidemic (a real thing, unlike the "Opiate epidemic" which the gov't manufactured to take medicine away from the chronically ill based on those who use drugs without a doctor's prescription) it only takes one to decide to cause pregnancy. If the government started punishing rapists the way they (unjustly) punish compassionate doctors and pain patients, you'd see a lot less prescriptions for "birth" control. I don't know many women who would voluntarily submit to depression, weight gain, autoimmune disease and the other million side effects of "the pill" (or having painful items inserted in their internal organs) if they weren't both afraid of rape and recognized that any relationship with a male (a necessity for most women, given their need for warmth and affection and/or love of male attention, poverty, and feeling alone and vulnerable without one) involved them being used for his sexual satisfaction in the exact way that can cause pregnancy.

This isn't Obama, this is the cost of pregnancy-free partnering with males. Sexual intercourse, which society trumpets as the only reason for living, causes pregnancy. Males prefer this to other forms of sex even as it can disable or kill a woman who would never seek out this act of her own volition (unless she wanted to be pregnant) in the absence of the male desire to use her internal organs to catch friction for his climax.

From your post, I'd guess you are a Catholic against birth control. I am not Catholic, but have seen my female friends' lives destroyed by unwanted pregnancy, painful birth control (and painful birth or pregnancy termination when it fails) after being selfishly used by men they thought "loved" them when the men just wanted intercourse. My male friends are angry when these women get pregnant or want a relationship after having their internal organs throttled. They feel deceived thanks to the media brainwashing that women love being pummeled internally as much as men love aggressively pummeling.

"Birth" control will stop being subsidized when the act of intercourse is no longer wrongly equated (for women) with love or desirability, or (for men) glamorized as the ultimate conquering act ("scoring"). It, unlike other avenues that ONLY lead to physical pleasure (even for females), needs to be recognized as an act solely used if both partners want a child.

If I was female, and someone demanded that I either risk the life-changing, uncomfortable, and potentially disabling/deadly act of pregnancy or else take hormones or shove metals up my body so they can achieve sexual satisfaction in my internal organs while I risk urinary and genital infections and do not automatically climax the way they will, I'd tell them to take a hike. No one who valued me as a human being--let alone "liked" me or "loved" me--would ever demand this of me. Don't get me started on female friends paying for male perv doctors doing this to them every year, as well as groping their breasts, under the guise of "well women exams". At least no women pretend to like these the way they have to act as if they "love" their boyfriends' self-gratification...because if they didn't, he'd cheat on her, and that is a huge fear in a world where single women are seen as failures by women and prey for men.

Every one of my male hetero friends see their girlfriends as sexual gratification stations, and would dump them if they didn't allow the men to commit painful sexual acts on them irregardless of health or desire to not be pregnant. Every one of my female hetero friends would stay with their boyfriends even if they lost their genitals in an accident. Some even say it would improve her health, her sexual satisfaction, and their relationship!

My GLBT friends love their partners irrespective of reproductive ability/organs and do not see "sexual intercourse" as an exalted act, contrary to hetero male beliefs that being LGBT is "just about sex".

The mis-named "birth" control will be around raking in profits and ruining women's health as long as hetero men are selfish and women view being sexually desired (up to and including rape) as their highest priority, as well as how both hetero men and hetero women evaluate women.

In this environment, no one cares about ADHD and narcolepsy patients, let alone those with horribly painful chronic illnesses and disabilities. It's all about erectile dysfunction drugs, "birth" control, fertility drugs, and "medicines" to make women skinnier and their eye lashes "prettier" (Latisse). The whole world has become an IQ-challenged "reality" show, and the neuroatypical, ill, "old" (ie over 25 for women, 35 for men), and not obsessed with genitals are irrelevant.

Petitions protesting a rise of cost for "birth" control or erectile "dysfunction" drugs would be a number one news item, but protesting the ridiculous inflation of Dextroamphetamine? No way--our brains are seen as worthless in this prurient society. In fact, having a working brain is exactly what those in power DON'T want us to have.

Teva Barr is not the only manufacture of Dextroamphetamine IR, but Walgreens will only sell that crap. Not only are they sub par in quality. i.e. they are worthless, ineffective, and cheaply made. I actually gained weight and could go straight to sleep on the Teva Barr's version of Dextroamphetamine IR. I switched to the generic made by Wilshire Pharmacutical which come in 5 and 10 mg. Rite Aid was the only Pharmacy that I could find in my area and most times I had to have it ordered. My doctor didn't like that I have to shop around and has now put me on a new Name Brand version called Zenzedi which comes in 8 different IR strengths. They are 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20. 25, 30 mg tablets of the IR. Here is a link to their site with a manufacturer's discount card for both Insured and cash paying patients who are eligible for $50 for a 30 day supply. zenzedi.com. The 5 and 10 mg are exactly the same as the generic sold by the Wilshire brand and are much cheeper with insurance. I am fortunate that I have great insurance, so Generic cost $15 and the Name Brand cost $25. I have taken Dexedrine for my ADHD since the early 1990's so I know the difference in quality; before that I took Ritalin since 1985. I first starting on the original GlaxoSmithKline IR and Spansules (a type of time release), but around 2000 they sold the rights off to Barr Pharmaceuticals now Teva Barr. I hope you are able to get your medication you need at a price you can afford.

I've been taking amphetamines for 40 years for my Narcolepsy. I took Desoxyn for the Majority of that time and pricing was not an issue of me as insurance recognized it as a maintenance medication. My wife changed jobs and we moved to Seattle. The new insurance would not touch Desoxyn. I'd been taking 15mg daily for at least 35 years. My Doctor put me on Adderal (Salts Generic)and while it was covered, it was awful in it's effects. Finally after increasing the dosage for several months I just flat out asked for dexedrine. The ER 15mg worked much better for me, however it took another dosage experiment to find what I needed to function as I did while on Desoxyn.

Finally arrived at 60mg daily (2 15mg Caps Twice Daily) and that worked. Cost was not an issue as it was below $30 for a 3 months supply. Job / insurance change again....and this insurance will have nothing to do with covering the med...until the $4000 deductible is met. I knew it would be very expensive but my health would be at risk without it. I took in my 3 months supply RX (270 caps 15mg) pharmacy called me and told me the generic would be $1800! After the pharmacist did some checking he found TEVA would be $464 for the same quantity (no small expense to say the least). How can one generic be 4X more than another?

My wife appealed the insurance companies decision to no avail. My prior 90 day supply is almost up and in looking for a cheaper price I checked with Walmart. $1500 for the same RX. Am I supposed to pay the mortgage or buy medicine? My condition is organic / nothing I can do about it. The entire health care industry is a disaster. Insurance companies have huge deductibles and they just don't care any longer.

Contact your state Ombudsman's office and ask if they can assist you in any way. I currently have one helping me in my own state.

Use a discount coupon. Try Walgreens. Also change to 5mg tabs (order twice as many and it's cheaper). I get 30-0/5mg for $113 at Walgreens, Safeway just 1/2 block away wants $900 for same script.

If you take you prescription to CVS and tell them you are paying out of pocket. If you then say I know you have a coupon or something that brings the price down to just under $50. My script is for 60 30 milligrams. They do iy for me all the time. Just be nice and polite im sure they will help you out

I am having the same problem. I changed jobs and do not have prescription coverage until mid December. I take 10 mg of it and I can only fill half of my capsule amount aka 15 days worth because it cost $170 at Rite-aide!!! On top of that I also take Lyrica which is $150 for 15 days. How is someone supposed to pay that much a month for two medicines?!?!? Sadly, I would be able to get my meds if I didnt work and could get government assisted healthcare. Our insurance in this country is ridiculous. All billionaires while people like us have to suffer. Its insane!

Ive tried using those same cards and discounts at just about every pharmacy and no one will take them! I would sure like to know which drug stores will accept them because I am in desperate need! This price increase is ridiculous! Have a feeling one of these drug companies is wanting to sell and promote other ADHD medications and while certain companies have suddenly stopped making them! Legally by law we should be given a list of all of the makers of this drug and the prices they charge for these drugs and be allowed to choose the one that best suits our needs physically, mentally and financially! Please Help!!!

Try pricing 20 mg tablets. Went from $240 for my 10 mg tabs to $40 for same total dosage buying and splitting 20 mg tabs w/ an internet coupon at cvs pharmacy.

Actually, you know who has control over the price of drugs...? The government! Yup! Believe it or not..but it's true. Our government and our pharmaceutical companies here in the U.S. are very well connected. You can research this if you don't believe me. How is it that Obama can hand out free birth control, which can cost $1,500+ (IUD) With private insurance, but if you get Obama care it's free...? Actually it seems since Obama's administration the price of Dexamethasone have skyrocketed!! Interesting...
I went to get my Dex today(rightaid, Seattle area)...$480 for 60caps of 15mg spantuals. Pretty high!

You are so wrong. Arte you on Medicare? I am and have to ell you that Medicare automatically puts you on Medicare when you reach the age to go on it. Depending on one's b-day year, some people went on upon reaching age 64, some age 65, and so on. If you are around 30 yrs old or so now, you may have to wait until age 67 or 68 before they put you on. When I reached 65, they automatically started taking $120/mo out of my social security payments for part A and B, which only cover 80% of doctor visits, hospitalization, surgeries, etc. You do not receive ANY prescription coverage at all. You have to obtain your own Medicare part D which is prescription insurance only from a private insurance company that deals with Medicare part D. I was directed to a S.H.I.P. counselor by my mental health clinic who helped me find one, which is Cigna insurance co. I have to pay them $127.00 /mo for prescription insurance. Now my co pay for Dextroamphetamine is $4.00 for 180 - 10 mg spanules . Actually, all and any other prescriptions may have is also $4.00/a script regardless of how many pills the prescription calls for. A lot of people, myself included, ha always thought Medicare is insurance and once on it, you are home free and covered. Not true!!! Nothing is given to us free by our government these days. We pay taxes all our lives, then when we retire, we get a meager income that we can hardly live on then they start taking money out of it for our health care, in which we have no choice about and even have to get our own insurance to cover the meds we might need. At least when I was on SSI, I got MEDICAID and that particular program is indeed Insurance where one does not have to pay a thing, except maybe $1.00 for co pay on meds. But once you turn retirement age, you're kicked off SSI and Medicaid automatically and put on Medicare and then you start paying up the butt. So there you have it. Shocking, in't it? I know I was in shock when I found out how it all worked.

Come to aus if u cant be bothered working u will get a special card and pay $5.60 per script(up to 200 5mg) same price rgardlessnof amount. If u work and have a legitimate medically diagnosed reason (not a psych opinion) one actually testable then u can expect to endure all sorts of s*** even get charged if u r robbed and its stollen. Come to aus for cheap drugs. I pay $28 for two hundred no gov discount or rebate, it is all how script written. For years doctors have save me $ by writting scripts for 200 tabs as here they charge perscript and according to condition

Check your formularly. Medicare Prescription Part D should cover Dexerdrine/Dextroamphetamine. But, you need to check with your Prescription Part D plan and ask if it is covered for ADHD. It may require a Prior Authorization.

I just had same problem, price went from 87.00 to 242.00.... So not fair. the other company who made it sold out to another company and apparently they trying to eradicate it in favor of more profitable products like Adderall. Guess they don't care about all the people this product helped. Its just not fair. it's the only thing that worked for me. But I can't afford it.
