Pain Doctors Alabama (Top voted first)

Updated

My dr in Mont., AL has been prescribing me 3 80mg oxycontin for several years. My visit last week he refilled my script and said it could be the last because he was told there was diversion possibly coming from his practice. Btw that was 3 a day. If he doesn't refill my script on my next visit, I need to find a Dr. quick. Is it legal not to wean a patient off? The pain clinics in this town are full.

The whole lot if us in pain are not on Medicaid and why r unresponding if you don't have pain. Most people with pain have other problems like OVARIAN CANCER or other problems, don't judge until you feel real pain yourself. Exercise is good until you stop then the pain comes back

If he cannot continue to prescribe, he should be able to refer to another doctor or clinic that will accept his current patients. Has he suggested anyone?

And yes, it is perfectly legal for a doctor to stop prescribing your medications, even if they are habit forming, at any time. They are not obligated to treat you or prescribe anything, unless you are in life threatening danger.

As a courtesy, however, most doctors that lose their prescribing privileges, retire or move their practices, will set something up with another doctor or doctors, that are willing to take over their patients.

Thanks for your responce but the situation has been rectified. The problem was a nurse who would not let pharmacists speak to the DR to confirm the class2 scrips. He never lost the ability to write the scrips. I've always considered him a friend and told me before that he would never cut me off. As I said in my previous post he didn't seem his normal self. He's had to fire 2 nurses for writing their own scrips and I think he had to think it through.

This is ridiculous...How would they feel if the only life you get to live is up to someone else's discretion whether it be in agonizing pain. Remember people.....We only do this once...(life)....Who are you to think you can see pain inside another human being.....

Evidently you dumb butt have never been in a bad head on car wreck, by someone who was in this great Country ILLEGALLY and then 2 yrs later thrown by a horse and trampled by another when I was thrown. Bless your heart you are unable to TO have empathy for another human being....then again maybe you are the one addicted and on here to divert the attention from yourself to others. Either way I feel for you sad person that can only break others down rather than encourage and build them up if there were anyone here addicted your comments would only kick them further down. BTw.... why are you on a question about pain medication if you are so against it.

I am very glad to hear that the problem has been solved, but it is really awful that it happened to begin with.

Yes, under the new laws that were put in place a few years ago, as I'm sure you're aware, no one but an actual doctor is allowed to write prescriptions for controlled substances, such as narcotics or Benzodiazepines. Even physician's assistants or nurses that are licensed to practice can no longer write them.

It may have been a hard decision for him, but in light of the situation, it was probably his only remaining option. The nurses definitely know better.

I've been having problems with my own Doctor who cut my prescription of the last 7 years by 1/3 and again by 1/3. Now I cannot work, I've lost a job and I lie in bed all day, unable to even walk my dog. Any chance you'd share who your doctor is?

I was diagnosed in 2009 finally with fibromyalgia. I didn't realize the depression it would throw me into nor did I realize that nothing out there was going to work for me. The opiates nearly killed me. All the meds they currently have, i.e., Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella, Tramadol, Effexor, etc., nothing works. So I hibernate in my room all day, after day, after day. I keep hearing about cannabis and how well it works. Does anyone know anything about this?

Reese, If u don't mind me asking what part of Georgia are these Dr's in that will c out of state patients if they have s birth certificate. I'm in SE Alabama, and the ONLY pain doctors are at least 2 hrs north or east of here. I don't need a large dose of meds, but someone who will write them based on my med history, be understanding, and listen to me. If these Dr's are in Columbus, Albany, Valdosta, or even south of Noonan, I would live to have names/numbers. Thanks.

I've recently moved from Florida to Dothan, Al. I finally got true pain relief when my doctor prescribed 120 oxycodone 10mg and 60 opana ER 20mg, which if I take them as prescribed these 2 meds together are the ONLY THING THAT COMPLETELY RELIEVES MY PAIN. I've been on this crappy ride for 20+ years. I hate having to take meds everyday. Now I'm in Alabama and these folks haven't ever heard of opana er, there are 2 pain clinics here and they both turned me away because the amount of meds I take for several things wrong with me. I think they are afraid to prescribe anything other than Norco or Percocet 10/325 and only 60 each month and you have to be very close to death to even get this (Norco + Percocet); which do absolutely nothing to relieve my pain. Please help me here in Alabama. Thank you. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

If you could travel to Shelby County, the Doleys Clinic might be a good solution for you.

I have been on methadone for about 20 years. Have had a couple of pain management drs that were writing my prescription for methadone; one got shut down & the other also got shut down by the DEA. The last pain dr had me on prescription methadone and when the new health care act by obama came in and changed regulations for all pain drs he took me right off methadone after 20 YRS and tried me on oxymorphone and it worked but barely did nothing compared to what methadone had. I guess taking methadone for 20 yrs just wasn't enough. Had to finally go to a methadone clinic bc there were absolutely no more drs that were prescribing methadone anymore. And what the government was allowing pain drs to prescribe just wasn't working. The methadone clinic is so expensive and also I feel as if im an addict trying to get off opiates.. But that's so not the case. I just have chronic back pain and need a Dr evaluating and managing my pain. Cannot find one anywhere in Alabama. Would be willing to travel right over the state lines if i could find a good pain dr and only had to go once or twice a month I would do that. I have Medicare, but I would pay cash if i could find a good and caring pain dr.. Can anyone help please?..or could anyone give me any advice please? Searching in Alabama...
