Must Fill Oxycodone 30mg In Pinellas County

Updated

Hi,
My mom is a intestinal cancer patient who has been taking 12 oxycodone 30mg pills a day for over 4 years. She has been without now for 2 days and is extremely ill. She's going to have to go to the hospital tomorrow if I can't find her any. I've driven all over the county, Walgreens and Ma&Pa pharmacies and I can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows of a pharmacy that has it here in the county, I would be willing to pay you a finders fee if when I get there they can fill my script.

Please help my mother. Please. She's so scared and even more scared to go to the hospital after they nearly killed her last time by not giving her nebulizer to her on time.

Hi..just reading your post...sad to say I'm in the same boat as you...my husband has had his script since last friday and we cant find anyone to fill it either. He's unable to drive around from pharmacy to pharmacy to find the medication due to poor health, so I've been trying to help him find it. There is not ONE place that i have found between Tampa and Sarasota that will fill his script. Not only do they say they dont have it, they have been giving me the attitute from hell when I ask when they WILL have it. I dont understand what's going on, but i do know that my husband is ready to be admitted to the hospital if I cant find it soon. I was going to try and have his doctor write a script for something else, but he's on vacation till next Wednesday. I'm not sure what to do. If you hear any good news, please let me know...thank you and good luck to you.

There are plenty of mom and pop places that have them. In fact most chains have them as well they just will tell you they don't if they don't know you. If you can afford $6 each I can tell you a few mom and pop places to try.

Mike, my fiance has Medicaid, and has been able to get his meds from the same pharmacy every time for the last 4 years untill yesterday. I drove around for 7 hours today, and some admitted they had it, but 'uncomfortable' filling it. I am so mad right not I could have a heart attack and he is about to throw himself down the stairs so he will be paralized and not in pain any more. I went to mom and pops too that took medicare and nothing....We all need to get together and do something about this it is NOT right!!!!

Contact Florida Pain Association. Advocate for People in need of meds is listed under Tampa Bay area, it may behove you to write a detailed letter to your local congressman. Legit pain needs to be handled appropriatly, withdrawal, especially with elderly or comprimised immune systems can be fatal. You have to take into consideration that some pharmacies have let greed of the all mighty $ take over, most likely taking above the fee they usually charge and lining their pockets with whatever they feel like charging. I have witnessed several pharmacies turn away insured patients and as soon as they walk away, some young punk with gold teeth, making drug deals via cell phone, obviously befriended with all of the staff, $800.00 cash, and snap filled rx. So unfair. We need to be heard and this resolved. I am willing to help as much as I have learned. Anyone that is at risk of death I urge you to call 911. ER will take too long.

Hi folks. I originated this thread. I was able to get my koms script filled bt was told by walgreens they wont fill it again! They claim they have a new policy that they cant and wont dispense oxycodone 30's when the quantity is more than 180. And apparently they will only dispense up to 180 if you are also on a long acting narcotic. Why does walgreens think they can dictate a patients care??? Also, almost all the pharmacists at walgreens stores told me that in addition to the above store policy- yes, they say its the store policy at every walgreens i went to- apparently HIPPA means nothing to them because every single pharmacist (i went to 27 stores) wanted to know what other drugs my mom has tried and didnt work because they were "uncomfortable" dispensing my moms regular amount every 30 days at the quantity she currently is prescribed.

I finally found a Walgreens at Central Ave & Pasadena Ave that agreed to fill my moms rx BUT they WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN. The pharmacist said she realizes my mom has been a loyal customer of Walgreens & has receieved the same drug at the same quantity for over 4 years so she would be allowed via store policy to fill the rx ONE TIME ONLY & she was gonna call my moms oncologist and let him know about Walgreens' new policies & that next month if she wants ANY amouny of oxy 30's that she will also need a script for a long acting drug or they will NOT fill the oxy 30's at all. I thought these supposed "store policies" were a lie but when I asked a friend she was told the same thing at yet another walgreens when trying to get her script filled! Oh but getting back to what I was saying before- I should not have to share my moms personal medical information (what shes tried that hasnt worked) with them! Hello, HIPPA!!!! Oh and the walgreens stores that I went to I told them to look in their computer and they will see my mom is loyal customer and has recieved the same drug in the same quantity for 4 years and to please call my moms regular walgreens store to confirm and make them more comfotable. And thats when Central Ave & Pasadena Ave did so and agreed to fill ONE TIME ONLY blah blah blah. How ridiculous.

Anyway, my moms doctor is going to contact her insurance and walgreens to see about how to proceed next month. He agrees walgreens should not be able to dictate what a patient can and cannot recieve. That is up to the doctor. I am so pissed off.

And btw, my mom is allergic to morphine, fentanyl, and codeine. Also she tried oxycontin in the past and she had horrible headaches and confusion. She doesnt have that with the immediate release. Its why her doctor gives her what he gives her.

I am so sick of this s*** I have to go through to get my mom her medicene. She has been through so much. Not just two cancers but she has one lung and the surgeon who took it out messed up so when she breathes it looks like a balloon is coming out of her back. She also has a massive blood clot in her femoral vein right in her groin so she cant sit straight or the leg swells even bigger than normal and becomes even more painful than normal as well.

I am sorry to all of you who are also having trouble gettinf your scripts filled. I have added you to my prayer list & would appreciate your prayers for my mother, Janet, as well. Please let me know if you get more than 180 pills and walgreens has told you about this strange set of new store policies. Also, does anyone know of a Ma&Pa pharmacy that stocks Oxy 30's that will dispense more than 180 without being douchey about it?

Take care- Jen

I found it at Walgreens at the corner of Ft. Harrison, and West Bay. I am tired of this too. My fiance is a wonderful person and gets treated worse than a dog. He doesnt deserve this, no one does. We NEED to get together and have a protest, if no one does this will keep going on.

I agree. We need to let the government know that the restrictions they are putting on the drug companies on how much drug they can produce is onky hurting patients who truly need it. Walgreens also needs to know that we are not going to stand for these new policies. I seriously want to know why they think its okay to dictate patient care and decide who deserves what and how much. Grr.

I wrote to my congressman already, and got a call back, from a non caring woman, who basically said. "Oh well, thats the way it is, deal with it." I am used to people treating us like we are some kind of scum becuase my fiance is disabled and takes pain medication.

Its really easy when you dont have chronic pain to judge someone who does. These pharmacists have never taken pain drugs or needed them long term for the most part so they really have zero understanding of their importance to the people who need them. I think all pharmacists when completing their education should have to take a course on patient rights and basic customer service skills- including how to show empathy to the customer while still enforcing pharmacy policy.

I imagine the person you spoke to at your congressman's office does not have chronic pain and does not know anyone who does that would need narcotics so she just figures you and your fiance are "drug seekers" and therefore too bad so sad. I dont know why its so hard to be empathetic to people in pain. But for most it is.

I would encourage that before you go to get a script filled for narcotics again that you google and read up on "drug seeking behavior." I found that my mom and I were exhibiting 1 or 2 of the signs pharmacists and even doctors look for in "drug seekers" that are "red flags" to them that they are told means that they shouldnt give you narcotics. One of them is becoming overly emotional and crying. My mom cried at a walgreens that said they had it in stock but were not comfortable dispensing at her quantity despite a doctors note and the fact that they could see in their computer shes been on the same drug at the same quantity for 4 years! When she started crying the pharmacist actually half-smiled and said "Ma'am if you are crying over not getting your drugs I think you have a drug problem." I actually got this pharmacist FIRED from her job after complaining to the pharmacy manager and calling corporate. I shouldnt have to explain that the reason my mom started to cry was because she went two days without being able to find her medicene once before and became violently ill and her blood pressure went sky high and she was in the hospital for 3 days and was terrified the same thing would happen again. So her crying really wasnt about the drug itself but about her very real fear about what could happen if she suddenly stopped taking it. These pharmacists alao need to be educated as to what can happen to a patient who is on long term narcotic therapy and then suddenly stops the drug without the benefit of being able to taper off properly. High blood pressure, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, seizures, paranoia, severe anxiety, deep muscle aches, etc are all very real possibilities when suddenly stopping long term narcotic therapy.

Take care everyone!
Jen

girl 25, my fiance has been taking these meds for about ten years now, and he has been through hell. When we moved from Florida to SC, he did find a Dr. but after about 6 months, the guy just didnt show up to work one day and left him without any meds or referrals. It took us 2 weeks to get an appt. at MUSC and we went to the appt. and they prescribed his meds, but he was sick. They said there was a pharmacy downstairs and he should go fill it, so he could start feeling better. Then at the end of the visit, they came in and had him sign a 'pain contract' that we would only get his meds from the walgreens down the street from us. I asked them, well, the Dr. said to get the script from downstairs this time, can we still do that? And they said...Oh yeah, this time it's fine....But when I called to make his next appt. they said he was kicked out of the clinic for using a pharmacy that was not on the 'pain contract'. I couldnt believe it and of course I told them what they had said, they did not care. I called everyone I could think of including Medicare, Disabled people organizations, etc. No one could help. He went without his meds for almost 3 months and did not sleep for almost 2 months. He was delerious. During this time he found himself in our neighbors car and didnt know how he got there, and other places. One night he walked up to the ER and told them he was going to kill himself. I woke up and didnt know where he went, and called the ER...They told me AND him, "Oh well, there is nothing we can do" and told him to leave...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! He said he walked home and tried to get hit by Semi trucks driving by, but he didnt want to get somebody else killed. His organs started shutting down and he went to the ER again and they had to remove his gallbladder. I talked to the administrator about it, and she said she would make sure he had a pain dr. before we left that hospital. Then she would not even return my phone calls to her. Finally one of the blood specialist Dr.'s came in and said he knew a Dr. that would help him, and Thank God, he did. This is just one of the horrible things we have had to go through since this happened. It's just one thing after another. We had a great life before this happened. My fiance was the funnest, funnYEST, outgoing, active person I had ever met. We had a lot of dreams for out future. Then we lost everything. We even lived in a tent in south florida in the middle of the coldest winter in about 30 years with 3 cats. Then he had a gran mal seizure and fell into the side of the tent, so we went to live with my son in SC....I could go on and on and on. I myself have just become numb. If I let my feelings out, I think I would go insane because when I start thinking about it all too much, it just seems unbelievable. I have learned that most people are pretty awful and could not care less. I feel so bad for your mom. I think the only way to change this is for all these patients to get together and protest. They just hope they make everyone so sick they cant get up and do anything about it....but we have just got to. There is medicine to help these people, but they just can't have it?? WHY?? Just cause they said so??? No, this needs to change...

Jen, Jesus God, I am so mortified by your story and your poor poor mother with all her physical conditions. I , too cannot find anywhere to fill my prescription, and have had mine for 150 30 mg since June 11 in Pinellas county.I think it is precious of you to actually come back and try to help those of us here who are really suffering.....you are an amazing young woman and your mother is no doubt proud to have you as her advocate. I also have used walgreens for 4 years, same dr same meds.Well, no doubt your MOM is on other meds besides narcotics. What I am trying right now is going in with my folder in hand with my printed Walgreen records and telling whatever pharmacy I have approached (so far within 2 miles of my house-NOT WALGREENS or CVS.....that here are my records, I want to see your pharmacy manager about transfering them to your store, and I need these filled and have been without them since June 11, and it is obvious since I have crippling RA in both knees and I gotta tell you, even though I havent found the oxycodone in stock, I HAVE been treated with dignity,I have related how terribly I have been treated by Walgreens, and I have been told when deliveries come in (every day at some stores)and am told that some will have them July 1st. Come at them as a consumer an intelligent consumer and it doesnt hurt to wear a suit. It IS ridiculous that all of us have to play these games to get our legal meds, but after researching the holy crap outta this , calling the pharmacy board etc......I am told pharmacist are NOT regulated, just as Doctors can write what they choose, well, pharmacist can fill what they choose.I have contacted 2 attorneys about filing a class action against walgreens and suggest you ALWAYS deal with the manager of the store get their license # (they MUST give you this and their name if you are treated rudely or without dignity. Just a few things I have learned through this horrifying ordeal. Also, the ARNP at my Drs office told me the other day " Don"t you dare give up.....Do not let anyone deny you your right to live your life pain free" Hope this helps a tiny bit.....K

yeah there are other things to try besides oxy 30 ir. I would def be at the hospital with our relative (staying there to watch over them) They may have to try something else just for now. I know how easy it is to develop a tolerance to a med, The dr.s in CO stopped prescribing oxy ir...(about 70-80%) they try MScontin, phentynol, and Op but not oxycodone..sucks but I am managing with trying other thing . ive been off ofoxycodone for a year now since I moved from FL on 4 30mg oxy IR a day, I got to CO and docs weenedme off ofit in 6months..

First of all, I am disgusted by the pharmacies policing the doctors. I am in Wisconsin - sounds like you all are in Florida - and it seems to be there should be law suits filed against Walgreens or whatever pharmacy for NOT filled a prescription when they have the medication. What are they doing to an individual with very real pain and suffering (not to mention the cost involved of even driving from one pharmacy to the other and, quite possibly, time off work, etc.)

I have fibromyalgia and have been on oxy - both condone and contin - for more than 15 years. Few changes to dose and always filled at Walgreen's. My pain doctor has decided to wean me off the meds (I actually wanted to reduce the amount I am taking because when I broke a bone and suffered horrendous additionsl pain I was unable to get on top of it; it was then I decided I wanted to go down in dosage.

There are two issues here so please bear with me. One is that my pain doctor, new to me after two internal med. docs retired after 5 years each and my previous pain doc. went on maternity leave and never came back. This new doc is someone I had been warned about for years ("whatever you do, Don't go and see Dr. X") and he proved his reputation immediately by accusing me of canceling my appointments or not showing up when it was his own clinic that was canceling all the appts. ... Just really bizarre, irrational stuff with no consistency. He changes his mind or method of treatment from one appt. to the next, forgets what he has told me. It's a nightmare. And the day after I put some of these issues about his rude inconsistent treatment in writing to be put in my medical files, he called a big meeting and announces he had decided I was addicted to these opiods and that he would get me off of them completely as quickly as possible and that it was "nice" of him to wean me off because other doctors would just cut me off entirely and send me away with a preparation for. A med. to reduce withdrawal symptoms. I did have ONE additional choice, he told me. I could go to a rehab center. I was and am horrified by this. I do not believe I am addicted to these drugs at all - never get "high" from them, have no craving for them. I do accept that I awkward dependent on them for pain relief - in other word, precisely what they are supposed to be used for. he has been taking me down 30 percent and more each week, I am in so much pain, and. I am having surgery next week (pretty major stomach surgery) and am afraid I won't be properly medicated - he says the surgeon should just treat me like any other patient and give me 5 mg. Percocets post surgery. This is after I was used to 400 mg. per day ( long acting w short) and m now own to 200 mg. long acting which is not working for relief. Clearly, 5 mg. post surgery won't help a bit nd he knows this.

To complicate matters, Walgreen's refused to fill my. 40 mg. long acting pills last week (60 of them) until they interviewed the doctor. He, of course, tells them he is weaning me off entirely so this is something Walgreen's has been told from some doctor I barely know who has probably affected my reputation improperly across the Walgreen's circuit. I asked the pharmacy about pain meds post surgery. They said they couldn't even guarantee they would fill it.

I am so frustrated and would appreciate any comments and advice.

Also, to the person who went off of Oxycodone completely - what are you taking now? I am not adverse to trying other things (and have done so many times throughout the years) just not sure what to do.

Finally, I was shown the form the doctor filled out for Walgreen's. I asked for a copy. they said they didn't
know if they could do that and would have to call the doctor to ask. The doctor said absolutely not. WHAT? I can't have a copy of something pertaining to my health care and decisions being made on my behalf? Does anyone else think this sounds crazy and that it may very well be a violation of my HIPA rights?

Thanks for reading and bless you all as you go through these horrific struggles trying to get the pain control you and your loved ones desperately need.

I have over the years been on Tylox, Percocet, Norco, Oxycondone, Oxycontin, morphine, when I cant get my scripts that Ive been on most of the time since 1997 when I was first injured, I eat about 500 advil a week, Until the point it ate my stomach and now just makes me throw up. Walgreens has been my pharmacy for years. I actually was a manager there. I have been w/o meds for 3 weeks. I don't detox. I just hurt like hell and want to make it through w/o doing something stupid. Today, Walgreens did make me cry. I know they were up there in top stocks when I worked for them. I think those w/ ral issues cant afford mom and pop shops and paying 7 to 800 dollars for 1 med. I still need 4 types of BP meds, long term pain meds, but I did turn off the pacemaker monitoring system. I cant deal w/ the pain IM in now let alone have that thing thump my chest. And yes, I have no health insurance cause no one will cover a 3 times back surgery patient and a pacemaker other than SS. Then I lose what everything I have suffered for? MY home, family and the will not to give up? I love the idea of making Walgreen pay for my suffering. Maybe if it hurt their pockets as deep as it has mine, they would get a clue
