Levaquin Has Destroyed My Quality Of Life (Top voted first)

Updated

I had a minor sinus infection and my Doc prescribed two weeks worth of levaquin. My side effects were instant. I had muscle and joint pain and weakness. Doc said it was normal. This was four months ago and my life is just a shell of what it once was. I hurt all the time. I have Parkinson type tremors and my kidneys are failing. As I write I am sitting in the hospital. No end in sight. I can no longer do the things I love, ride motorcycles or play guitar. I have lost all hope of being the person I was just a few short months ago. I am writing my story for two reasons, one to warn others and secondly looking for hope. Has anyone had muscle pain and fatique and found it went away over time. thank you

Side effects with me have been going on for 10 years. Vision problems. Damaged optical nerve, Headaches, dizzy, Neuropathy. Tendons still over stretch easy and painful. Walking out to get the mail can cause pain who knows where. Ringing in ears.

Don't expect help from litigation either. The only people that get rich from legal suits are the attorneys. I got a $40,000 offer. Attorney takes 40%. All money paid by health insurance gets taken out of the 40K and they get paid back. I would get about $15K for a lifetime of misery. People that sued outside of legal actions got up in the million dollar range. Stay away from Baron and Budd law firm would be my advice.

I am on lyrica which cost me $120 a month after insurance plus my insurance deductible must be paid by me before anything is covered. Taking Levaquin, suffering from it and hiring Baron and Budd to help me with my legal suit was the second most disappointing thing in my entire life. The first was the death of my son. Levaquin and Baron and Budd is second without question. Perfectly healthy in my 40s to feeling like an 80 year old man within weeks then given a false sense of compensation by this lawfirm. Bad situation for sure. I wish I would have never allowed Baron and Budd to represent me. The false hope ending with a slap in the face of $15,000 is absurd. Did I mention the depression got even worse after the Baron and the Budd let down? Promise of help and hope and then the rug is yanked out from under you.

I feel sorry for anyone going through this. You are not alone.

Wow, Billy! I am very sorry about what you're going through and it's great of you to post to warn others.

And yes, I had a similar experience with a different antibiotic last year and it took months for everything to finally return to normal. Though, I still occasionally get hives that flare up in the same areas on my body for no reason.

So, there is still hope, but it can take awhile for your body to normalize again. My kidney function was low for about 5 months, before returning to normal. If it's safe for you to take in more fluids, then that may help.

What do the doctors say your prognosis is?

And for anyone else reading this, you know your body better than anyone else. If you're having a problem, you know, you can tell, so trust yourself!

Hi Billy,
I was also prescribed levaquin for a sinus infection...back in March 2010. For a long time, I thought Levaquin had ruined my life and there are moments I still feel this way. I could not walk due to the severe nerve, muscle, and tendon pain I had in both legs for months after my 5 day dose. Although, 3 years later, I continue to have daily pain...it is more tolerable and I can still live a fulfilling life. I continue to be a PE teacher and coach, which is a very active lifestyle and on MOST days..i do ok. I have done some things over the years that I feel helped to alleviate the pain. In the end, I feel time is the only sure cure....at least I continue to hope so. I hope you have found some relief and please contact me if you want to hear what I have done or if YOU have found anything to help our situation.
Thank you and good luck,

Hi Bill, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I can totally relate because about 4 1/2 yrs ago I had a sinus infection that wasn't getting better after a full course of a different antibiotic. Unfortunately every time I called for an appt I didn't get the Dr, but a PA. They said stick with it sounds like you have a touch of the flu on top of the sinuses. When I finished no better they put me on 14 days of Levaquin. I called after 5 days complaining about the pain everywhere, the PA said the flu takes a while to go away give it time. I did and got worse & worse. Finally with 1 day left I saw a Dr because my knees were so swollen I almost couldn't walk at age 51. The Dr took one look & declared I was allergic to Levaquin. She started on 60mg Prednisone and 3 months to ween off it. Then I felt worse & went to a Rheumatologist! Thank God!!! He did 1exam & 1blood test and told me I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. The previous Dr poo pooed the idea because my levels in my blood were just slightly elevated. He put me on Prednisone & Methotrexate. After a month I finally began to feel relief. However RA does not reverse it self & isn't without a lot of complications. RA nodes on the Lungs, on some tendons, cysts that come & go, a lot of hair loss, some days pain you don't think you can stand, but I got with a Great PT & do tons of exercises in the am before I even get out of bed & continue stretching threw ought the day. I also gave up meat at his suggestion. What a difference!!!! It makes sense too because Cows/Cattle are fed growth hormones, chickens & turkeys are fed antibiotics. We don't need those in our bodies. I try to eat as natural as possible, fresh fish, whole grains, plenty of fruits & vegetables and take Calciun, Vit E, Vit D, Fish Oil, Biotin& lots of Vit C. So I say yes there is hope for you as long as you never give up hope and keep focused on what you can do not what you can't. Don't look back with sadness, look back with joy that you had those experiences in life and look towards new experiences you never thought of before. Life takes you on many directions, we can not adjust the direction, but we can adjust the sails on our ship called life. I wish you the best and believe you will, you can and you'll do.

To Danille, I would be so grateful if you could tell me what you did or what treatment or things you took that helped you. I have TA and have been on prednisone for so long that now I have a lot of muscle loss. My strength is awful. I've developed osteoporosis so of course I've been given more medicine. Any information you could give me would be wonderful.
I hope you are doing better. Thank you,
Judy

I cured my Levaquin toxicity with chlorella. Chlorella is a green algae superfood that detoxifies the body of heavy metals. It is also nutrient-dense and provides high amounts of magnesium and other essential vitamins and minerals that Levaquin and other quinolones can cause deficiencies of. I took a tablespoon of chlorella for 2 months. I am now cured. My insomnia and heart palpitations are gone. Chlorella is also high in protein so I still take it as part of my diet for overall health. The brand I used was "Nutricost." You can get 300 grams of chlorella on Amazon for only $15 dollars. I hope this information helps someone because all the doctors I saw were completely useless to me. Levaquin didn't even cure the infection it was prescribed for. I am now supplementing with monolaurin, a natural antibiotic/probiotic combo. I take 3 grams, twice a day for chronic prostate infection. After 10 months, my symptoms are lower than ever. I expect to be cured within the next 6 months. Thanks for reading and I hope this information helps someone.

Re: In pain person (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Have you heard of NRF2 activator? I was introduced to this amazing 100% all natural little yellow pill after being put on Levaquin for Sepsis 2 years ago. It absolutely changed my health and life!!! It literally saved me!
