Amneal Pharmaceuticals Hydrocodone 10-325 (Page 7)

Updated

I have been taking hydrocodone 10-325 (made by Watson) for about a year. I picked up my prescription yesterday and instead of the normal yellow pill, I received a white oblong pill imprinted with m367 on it. I took 2 for breakthrough pain and had no relief what-so-ever. I called the pharmacy and was told that they will no longer be able to get the med from Watson. Does anyone know what has happened? I have chronic pain, and these white ones from Amneal Pharmaceuticals is not going to cut it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Patti (# 119) --

The "Actavis" products are why I moved my prescriptions from Walgreens to another pharmacy. In my opinion, Actavis generics are as bad as they get. The local Walgreens filled my prescription with the "new" Actavis product back in January and personally I thought they were awful. MAYBE someone at Walgreens contacted them and said that they were getting too many complaints on their products and they needed to change them or Walgreens would look for another provider. I don't know. My first and only experience with the Actavis product line was awful.

I was use to it and it worked well when I first tried it yet going from Mallinkrodt to Actavis I find not as effective the whole think is super weird yet so don’t have any toxic side affects like Amneal so I am thankful

I guess everybody's physical composition is different. If the Actavis generics work for you then as far as you are concerned that is all that matters. I have spoken to two pharmacists at two different pharmacies and I was told by both of them that if I was going to stay with the hydrocodone/acetaminophen generic that I might try the brand name for a more consistent efficacy. I, of course, was denied the name brand by my insurance company because they needed more information. I just mailed my appeal letter today with all of my germane health history and I will see what they do now.

I wish they would get rid of the Amneal. It is nasty and ineffective!

Did your doctor write Brand Name Medically Indicated on your prescription? If not, your appeal will be denied. If he did, your appeal might still be denied. If your appeal is denied, Your doctor needs to find out exactly what is required from him by the insurance company to get it approved.

Re: BL (# 126) Expand Referenced Message

I called the insurance company to find out what the process was. In another State I had a different insurance company and they would fill a prescription for 30 days pending the approval process. My current insurance company will always deny your initial request until the reason the request for a name brand prescription medication is justified (in there opinion). It does not matter how your Doctor writes the prescription. If it is not approved FIRST then they will not pay for it. I got the denial letter asking for more information and I have sent in the information and I have appealed. We'll see how this works out.

Who makes brand name Norco and are they even available?

The brand name Percocets have completely disappeared as Endo pharma is now manufacturing those horrible t194s supplied/labeled by Camber.

Re: Mason (# 128) Expand Referenced Message

According to the Pharmacists I spoke to the brand name "Vicodin" is still manufactured. Again, I understand that "Norco" and "Vicodin" are for all intents and purpose the same thing. The generic hydrocodone/acetominophen is real inexpensive. The name brand "Vicodin" is over $180 a month depending on where you get your prescription filled. At Walgreens they quoted me $272 a month (with no insurance). At Walmarts they quoted me $189 per month for name brand "Vicodin". Either way it is way more expensive than generics and they ARE available.

Re: w john (# 129) Expand Referenced Message

I see. Just to disambiguate I always considered "Vicodin" as a formulation containing 500 mg of paracetamol and "Norco" as the formulation containing 325 mg of paracetamol. Since all formulations now come in 325 mg paracetamol I consider the hydrocodone formulations all to be "Norco". I suppose that's neither here nor there and just a matter of semantics.

I'm glad to hear that the brand name hydrocodone/apap is available. I wish they still were for Percocet. Wish you the best of luck, I hope your insurance approves it. All of the generic opiates nowadays are crap!

Endo is still making Brand Percocet. But, it is highly doubtful your insurance will pay for it. Camber makes one of many generics for Percocet.

Re: Patti (# 135) Expand Referenced Message

"The PHARMACIST SAID"? I don't know where you are talking to pharmacists. It is possible that there is some Watson opioid generics out there somewhere. The large companies like Walgreens and CVS may have some and it is possible that if a Pharmacist cared enough they may be able to transfer some from one store to another. Most could care less. HOWEVER, Watson was bought out by another company a couple of years ago and they are NOT manufacturing anymore opioid generics under the "Watson" name. You can look up "Watson" on the internet for a full explanation. Pharmacists words could be taken as the truth only a couple of years ago but since the so called "opioid crisis" many of them are just flat out untruthful.

Re: w john (# 136) Expand Referenced Message

Actually, to correct my earlier post I stated that Watson was bought out. It was actually Watson buying out Actavis to "expand their global presence". The research said that Watson would no longer manufacture the Watson brand but would use the Actavis name to brand their generics with the Watson name being held over to use on certain meds. Watson bought out Actavis in 2012 and another article said in 2013 that they were going to phase out the Watson name on generic hydrocodone and phase in the Actavis name. Nothing was said about reformulating the pills but it seems quite obvious that happened. I do not feel that all of the people that have commented on this to be untruthful. If it was only a small handful, maybe. But not the large number of posters that have said the Actavis generics are awful.

I cannot agree with you more. I fought for many years not to take any pain medication for my Fibromyalgia and my neck pain and the migraines from the pain got so intense that my doctor literally had to force me to start taking something for the pain. In the last 3 years that I have taken literally ONE norco a night, I got a better job, got promoted in less than a year, and bought a beautiful house. In other words, it made me a functioning human being again. I happen to do well with the Qualitest yellow Norco as I also went through a HUGE spell of these awful generics that would hurt my already bad tummy, give me terrible headaches and no pain relief. I live in the Sacramento area and just recently the only pharmacy to my knowledge that carried this brand no longer does. I had my Dr. write a prescription for the "yellow only" and there is no pharmacy and I've been to them all, that will either A) order it for me, or B) carries this brand. Because of this, I have had to start taking these awful generics again and am recently trying the Amneal which are not good. My stomach hurts, it burns my stomach terribly, and again gives me even more of a headache than I already have and no pain relief at all.

It's a shame that the people like us with REAL pain on this thread who's lives have been changed by this medication are treated like addicts and the carp of society for taking medicine that HELPS us. This medication changed my life and now I'm hearing they no longer carry my brand and are reducing the medicinal quality and function of this medication in general? I mean really?!! Over the last month I am slipping back into being a sick, non-functioning, lifeless person just living and breathing with pain again. I would love to see these people that are making these decisions be on the other side of the fence and live with pain and then tell me that we are pathetic and don't need it. It's nuts, it's disgusting, and I feel for all of us here.

If someone does happen to know a pharmacy in the Sacramento area that carries the Qualitest please let me know. Heck I would drive a 100 miles just to get my brand to help with my pain!! Otherwise, Amneal in my humble opinion, you mine as well just take a placebo pill because that's all it is, a sugar pill.

Re: Mary (# 139) Expand Referenced Message

Every since the manufacturers started getting sued by non profit groups and, worse, State's Attorney Generals Offices they have basically changed the formulation of their generic opioids to be essentially worthless. An over the counter Tylenol or Alleve works just as well. Aside from lowering the amount of opioid medicine in a prescription the manufacturers have tried to change the molecular structure of opioid medicine to take out all of the properties in opioids that might give a person a feeling of euphoria. The bad thing is as they changed the formulation of the opioid medicines they also removed any benefits received from taking pain medication. They have reformulated the "good" (meaning effectiveness, NOT getting a "high" out of pain medications) out of the pain medications and left chronic pain sufferers with medications that are mainly worthless and ineffective. We are in such a negative political climate right now. BOTH political parties are kowtowing to the loudest whiners in the public. Although the whiners are actually in the minority they yell the LOUDEST so they are the ones that politicians listen to. The fact that no Attorney or class action group of Attorneys will come close to touching this issue should speak volumes. Normally, these Attorneys would jump all over ANY issue that they see a payday from they will not touch this issue because, even though, this is an easily winnable case, the political costs would be high too. We are so screwed right now. The government tried to outlaw alcohol through abolition and all it did was set up an underground black market for beer and whiskey. Anyone that is familiar with the "speakeasys" know what I mean. Instead of just stopping pushing Doctors to prescribe pain medications and stipulating that it is now known and understood that pain medications are addictive or, at the very least, create dependency for long term users the manufacturers have tried to reformulate everything and that has made pain medications basically junk and worthless.
