Naltrexone and kratom

I've been taking approximately 6g of kratom every 4 to 6 hours for about 2 years now. I want to use a weight loss medication which contains naltrexone but wonder if it will cause withdrawal sickness because of my kratom use? ## Hi, I am in the same boat as you. Have not been using Kratom that long (about 6 months) but want to start Contrave for weight loss. I am also hoping the naltrexone will help me not use the Kratom anymore as I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to quit for a few weeks now. I think it will help with that but my concern now is that I will go into extreme withdrawals when I take the first dose. Did you end up taking yours? ## Personally, I think it would be best to consult a doctor for the purpose of setting up a tapering schedule with kratom in order to lessen an...

Naltrexone for pain from opiate withdrawal

I was curious if this medication helps with pain from opiate withdrawal? ## Una-contrary! It will make withdrawals much worse. You may use naltrexone at least 7 days after you stop using opiates. ## I've been taking oxycodone for years now. I took the vivitrol shot yesterday without detoxing from pills. I went into a very violent withdrawal for about 12 hours. no sleep at all. I am still in withdrawal because of getting off pills. But if i took a pill, would it help with my bad withdrawals or will naltrexone throw me into a worse intense withdrawal? ## Instructions for naltrexone suggest no opiate use for 7 days. I start in 2 days and have taken an opiate maybe 5 times over the last 3 days. Will there be any reaction still because there is no addiction? I wouldn't have thought i...

Naltrexone induced opiate withdrawal

So, I had a terrible opiate problem. Tried to quit cold turkey, was too sick, and had to do a 4 day taper. Anyway, I'm getting the naltrexone implant tomorrow, I'm only 3 days off my taper. Anyway, my question is, my doctor wants me to start with a 1/4 pill so its in my system. Now, I know I'm going to get even more sick. I've accepted that. My question is, how long will I be sick before it starts to feel better? Is it like Suboxone and after 1-2 hours, you're feeling quite a bit better, orrr...? Thanks! ## Hello, Kristen! How are you? Generally, about 3 days is the recommend time frame, to avoid severe precipitated withdrawals, so in theory, things shouldn't get much worse, but we are all different, so there are no guarantees. And no, it has little effect on opi...

Naltrexone addiction

naltrexone was prescribed following detox from opiate addiction......I'm trying to get off the naltrexone but I start having "withdrawal".....muscle pain, nausea...when I stop taking the naltrexone.....I've been opiate free for months.....why is this happening? everything I've read says that naltrexone is not physically addictive, but I'm starting to wonder......has anyone had this problem with naltrexone? ## Your body can become dependent on anything that you take for a long period of time, because it gets used to having that substance. This means that a sudden cessation may result in some withdrawal effects, though they aren't usually as severe as the withdrawals from an actual addiction. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## Can I take Naltrexo...

Naltrexone and constipation

I got horribly constipated about 5 days after starting naltrexone 50mg. So I stopped. Are there any known methods of taking naltrexone and preventing constipation? BTW, I have a good diet and never get constipated. ## I take a stool softener plus laxative in the morning and night time. I have the same problem so I asked my local pharmacy and that's what they recommended. Hope this helps. ## Oh this is so interesting, I take low-dose naltrexone, 0.5 mg in the morning, and it gave me diarrhea every day for the first seven days, then it stopped. I only get constipated on the days I don’t take it, but I think that’s because I also take oxycodone three times a day so when I don’t take the LDN in the morning it’s almost like my body is opioid naïve again. ## W...

Naltrexone stretching and yawning

I just started Naltrexone. The dosage is 1/2 of a 50 mg tablet 2x per day. I took my second dose early this morning. I feel really weird. Light-headed, groggy and a little dizzy. I also keep having urges to stretch and yawn like when I first wake up from a deep sleep. I am taking this for alcohol and appetite, It did greatly diminish my desire for alcohol and food after my first dose yesterday so I really want to continue. Will this get better? I can hardly function this morning. I am wondering if a much lower dose would be effective for me. ## Most side effects will go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If they persist beyond that, then you should consult your doctor, you should also do so, if your symptoms become severe. The FDA lists oth...

Naltrexone appetite loss and other side effects

Today is day #2 for me on Naltrexone. I’m taking this (50 mg) in order to eliminate my craving for alcohol. I wasn’t sure about side effects, but my Physician told me she didn’t know of any. And I know she has prescribed this for many other of her patients - all with beneficial results. Yesterday, I felt tired after taking it, and basically had no appetite. Today is more of the same however, I believe in a slightly more pronounced way (to a greater degree). Thus far I ate a small sized leftover portion of spaghetti while at work today. But now I have no desire for supper. So I have a few questions: Will these side effects ever go away? If not, is there a good alternative to Naltrexone that doesn’t typically exhibit these same side effects? Also, how long will I n...

allergic reaction to naltrexone

Hi, I am trying to understand the differences between Naloxone and Naltrexone because I was prescribed Naltrexone tablets over the summer and had a severe allergic reaction and had to be hospitalized. I do not know if the Naloxone in Suboxone would give the same reaction, but I do not want to find out. If anyone can explain this to me, I would greatly appreciate it. =) ## Hello, Kkbc! How are you? While they both do the same thing, they are two different substances. So, while you may have had a reaction to the Naltrexone, you might be okay with the Naloxone, but there is also a slight chance that you could have a reaction to it, too. Typical side effects to Naloxone may include nausea, change in mood, increased sweating and nervousness. If you do have a problem with it, Subutex is alway...

Does Antabuse affect how long alcohol stays detectable in urine?

I recently started on Antabuse. I was brave enough to try drinking 24 hours after my last dose. I actually drank quite a bit and had no adverse side effects. My question is since antabuse works by altering the way your body in particular your liver processes alcohol, will it cause alcohol to be detectable longer than the average 48-72 hours in a urine test? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Esperal implant

I want to know that how much time disulfiram releases from ESPERAL implant and where it is implanted? I also want to know the name of the manufacturer of Esperal. ## One manufacturer that I have found listed for the implants is Laboratoires Thersa in France, however, I do not know if they still make it. I also cannot discover how often or how much is released by them, nor the location they are implanted. It does not appear to be used in this manner in the U.S., so there isn't a lot of details available. Does anyone else know anything? ## I am also looking for Disulfiram implants for my husband. All I have found so far is a clinic in Europe alustonhealth.com/disulfiram-implants 10 x 100mg pellets are implanted under the skin. It works for at least 1 year. ## Hi, I just want to know i...

Disulfiram manufacturer

I am a medical doctor from Poland I have been doing antabuse/Esperal(disulfiram) implants for quite a while. Since last year i could not get hold of any implants and my patients are suffering. Can you please be so kind to let me know where i can find a manufacturer/supplier of antabuse (disulfiram) implants? ## How long can we give this tablet to patients? ## We have developed a one month release disulfiram implant, its under registration process. ## Hi, was your ad in the polish newspaper in new jersey? Nowy Dziennik? My dad needs to get it done. If we purchase the esperal, who puts the implant in? Thanks ## Where can I get an implant for this in US? Is it legal? What would be the cost? ## Do you know if it's even legal to use it in the USA?? I know a doctor who has an ad in the po...

Antabuse use with alcohol

I took 1 250mg around 11:00am. Will anything happen if I use any product that contains alcohol? ## It will do what it is supposed to, it may cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, sweating, thirst, fainting, and weakness, according to FDA reports. It is best to avoid all products containing alcohol, while taking Antabuse. Is there anything I can help with? ## I have found that taking Antabuse 250mg once a week has largely reduced my drinking. It allows me to drink 1 evening in the week because after 6 days the meds have been flushed out. I know this is not ideal, but at the moment it works for me.

Naltrexone and Alcohol

I have been taking naltrexone for a month now to help me quit getting drunk on white wine. My pharmacist said I shouldn't drink any alcohol while taking this drug but would like to know if I went out on a weekend, could I drink a glass of wine or two while taking naltrexone? Would there be any severe side effects? ## Wouldn't that be defeating the purpose of why you wanted to start taking it? Not only is it risky to consume alcohol with any medication, but if you wanted to stop drinking, it really makes little sense to go right back to it. Have you consulted your doctor? Have you undergone any counseling for this issue? ## Co: Your pharmacist does not understand the way naltrexone works or what its purpose is. Naltrexone works by the principal of "pharmacological extinction...

Antabuse and vinegar

I am about to start taking Antabuse. I read that I shouldn't have even a drop of alcohol including vinegar. We made meatloaf for dinner and it has barbecue sauce in it which contains vinegar. Also mustard. Mayo. Salad dressing. How concerned should I be? I would like to start it right away, but do I have to wait 12 more hours? ## I would wait. The official drug label states: "The patient must be fully informed of the disulfiram-alcohol reaction. He must be strongly cautioned against surreptitious drinking while taking the drug, and he must be fully aware of the possible consequences. He should be warned to avoid alcohol in disguised forms, i.e., in sauces, vinegars, cough mixtures, and even in aftershave lotions and back rubs. He should also be warned that reactions may occur wi...

It is made up of ethinylestradiol, an estrogen and norethisterone a progestin. It is used for birth control, symptoms of menstruation, endometriosis, and menopausal symptoms. Vivitrol and Headaches

Hi! I've tried to do some research on my own regarding this; however, most of the search results sing praise & glory about how great & awesome Vivitrol is. Not that I necessarily disagree but this headache is so debilitating that I'm not sure Vivitrol is the answer for me; that is, if it is the cause. I do see headaches noted as a common side effect but it is not a side effect that indicates to contact a health care professional or obtain immediate care or emergency care. Here goes… I received my 1st Vivitrol shot on April 24th and have had a continuous headache ever since. The headache started about an hour after I received the shot. It has gradually worsened to the point that it is taking over my life and just about anything can intensify it; sweeping the floor, ...

Livolin forte

What is cirrhosis of the liver with a HAI-Knodell of 6, as evidenced by a liver biopsy? After my blood test, it was found that I had a high reading on AST, ALT and GGT. Is it ok if I take livolin forte at this moment? Please advise. Thank you. ## Cirrhosis occurs, when normal, healthy liver tissue is replaced with other tissue, such as scar tissue. It can be caused by various liver diseases, alcoholism, some medications and other medical conditions. As to taking anything, even a nutritional supplement, some things are processed by the liver and could cause further damage. Therefore, I can only suggest that you discuss using it, with your doctor, before taking anything. You can learn more about Cirrhosis here: Have you consulted your doctor? ## May i please know how effective livolin for...

I just had my second shot of vivitrol last week. I want to get on birth control, specifically depo-provera. Does anyone know if there is any birth control that is unsafe to take while on vivitrol? I do not want to get pregnant while on vivitrol. ## I didn't find any interactions listed, but it is always best to double check with your doctor make sure they are aware that you will be taking both, unless both are prescribed by the same doctor, then of course the already know. LOL I would also like to note that I only checked with Depo Provera, since they are far too many contraceptives on the market, both generic, and name brand, so I can't possibly research them all. However, if you post back with a couple others that you are considering, I will be happy to check them for you. Dep...

Can an EtG test be passed after 30 hours sober?

I've been clean from alcohol for 30 hours. I've had a gallon of water yesterday and one before testing. I drank creatine mixture to raise my levels. Should I pass a etg? ## Depends on how much you drank, when you stopped and how many hours after the test, plus your metabolism factors in. There is no way to speed up the clearance from the body and dilution of the urine is your best bet. Eat a lot of red meat which will keep the creatinine level up and be a little over-hydrated when you go in. some places will consider a too dilute urine a positive, FYI. Many people have passed in less than 24 hours with 1-2 drinks. normal drinking would very often pass in 48 hours. also depends on what you would call a "drink", lol. but if you drank a pint of vodka and testing today or to...
