I just had my second shot of vivitrol last week. I want to get on birth control, specifically depo-provera. Does anyone know if there is any birth control that is unsafe to take while on vivitrol? I do not want to get pregnant while on vivitrol. ## I didn't find any interactions listed, but it is always best to double check with your doctor make sure they are aware that you will be taking both, unless both are prescribed by the same doctor, then of course the already know. LOL I would also like to note that I only checked with Depo Provera, since they are far too many contraceptives on the market, both generic, and name brand, so I can't possibly research them all. However, if you post back with a couple others that you are considering, I will be happy to check them for you. Dep...

I've been clean from alcohol for 30 hours. I've had a gallon of water yesterday and one before testing. I also drank a creatine mixture to raise my levels. Do you think I'd pass an EtG? ## Depends on how much you drank, when you stopped and how many hours after the test, plus your metabolism factors in. There is no way to speed up the clearance from the body and dilution of the urine is your best bet. Eat a lot of red meat which will keep the creatinine level up and be a little over-hydrated when you go in. some places will consider a too dilute urine a positive, FYI. Many people have passed in less than 24 hours with 1-2 drinks. normal drinking would very often pass in 48 hours. also depends on what you would call a "drink", lol. but if you drank a pint of vodka and...

my brother is alcoholics, one of my friend suggested this tablet, before giving this tablet to my borther I would like to know what are the side effects of this tablet. Should we consult docter before taking this tablet or we can give him directley ## The doctor should be consulted, because of the way this medication works and the risk of side effects. Dizone contains Disulfiram, which makes someone acutely sensitive to alcohol. In most cases, if they try to drink, they will get several drunk and ill after just one of 2 drinks containing alcohol. However, this can cause problems, if the person is persistently trying to drink, because they can develop vomiting and diarrhea, which can very quickly lead to dehydration. More information here: And really, nothing you give him is going to hel...

I’m on vivitrol and still have cravings and bad depression. If I took kratom would it work since it’s not necessarily an opioid? ## It depends on what you mean by “work”. Are you taking a red for pain relief, probably not because the Naltrexone would block the opiate receptors from feeling it. A white for energy? Maybe? Idk how the different strains hit specifically. If you try it the worst thing that will happen is nothing, right? When I tried Kratom I mixed it into chocolate almond milk and the chocolate took away some of the awful flavor.

Help! What is the oblong white pill marked E 28? The E looks like a sideways M ## Hi, Lisa! How are you? I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to find anything that matches this, yet. What is your general location? If it's an over the counter item, some of them are regional, so that may help to narrow it down. I'll post back, when I have information for you. Does anyone else recognize this tablet? ## I found this same pill in my daughters bathroom after a sleepover. Written on it is ? 28 and it's a white oblong pill. Does anyone know what it is? ## Treatment of etoh abuse ## It’s Antabuse. Makes you violently sick if you dare to drink alcohol. ## I don't know how long ago this was or anything but I was just looking up that and I found it it is for alcohol depr...

My brother has recently had a psychotic episode which I am beginning to think may have been triggered by antabuse. Has anyone else had experience or heard of this? ## Yes my boyfriend had this! He was sober about 6 weeks and the doctors put him on anabuse and prozac. He had legal issues, and he was forced to take these meds. After about 4-6 weeks, he began to feel what he described as a little too happy. and began having visual halllucinations and delusions. He became so paranoid in fact, that he began to fear sinning so he started giving money to random people, being totally honest and eventually abandoning any thought that he was anything except the second coming of christ. His mmomtook him to behavioral health and he stayed there (stablized) for 2 weeks. He proceeded to check himself...

I have been on and off Antabuse for years. It has been amazing for me in the past as I just forget about drinking when I take it and have never experienced any symptoms. Recently my drinking has been very bad during the lockdown and so I decided to get a new prescription. I haven’t taken it for about a year now. This morning I had my first dose and 20 mins later I felt so sick, really light headed and couldn’t look at my computer screen for work. Had to lie down. That feeling lasted about 1.5 hours and the rest of the day I just feel weird. I can’t explain it - almost like I’ve been up on a drug taking bender as had no sleep! I was excited that I had made the decision to go back on them but now I’m scared that I’ll experience this every day, give up a...

So I've been taking naltrexone for the past month or two to reduce alcohol cravings. Last night I decided to drink, I had two beers and was so nauseous from it the whole time drinking, I ended up throwing up. Which is very unlike me. ## Well, it can cause nausea as a side effect, as listed by the FDA and drinking alcohol while taking any medication can worsen the side effects. You may also experience dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. It's best to refrain from drinking alcohol, when taking any prescription medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I've been taking Naltrexone for about a year now. It was prescribed for opiates, but it really makes me not want to drink too. The main reasons being I have terrible heartburn most times I drink. I'm not sure if ...

I know others have put down the bottle; why can't I? Have had rehab, probation (that kind of worked as I was tested for alcohol), counseling, antabuse (I have an allergy to it but it worked for me), AA, etc. Prayer and hope. Still struggling. I do not want to die like this. I am 48 years old. ## Hi there, Sorry to hear of your struggles. I am in the same boat. I have lost my job and hit rock bottom. I now take Antabuse and get counselling and I attend regular workshops. I believe the support workshops are helping. My counselor suggested writing - maybe it will help for you too. ## I am very sorry about what you are going through. Some people have a genetic predisposition, to substance abuse, be it drugs, or alcohol, and struggle harder than others to give up their substance of choic...

I've been a drug addict for 8 yrs. I've been on suboxone 1 time in my life for about a year then was clean for about 3. My grand mother died and needless to say I relapsed. I'm ready to get help again and the Dr. that helped me last time is only willing to help me with vivitrol. I've got hep.c and i know it's not good to do vivitrol with hep. C and very bad depression on top of it. My question is. I feel as if he is kinda pushing it on me and I have feeling I want stay on vivitrol cause the idea of knowing I'm going to have withdraws and I can't do nothing about it scares me to death plus all the side effects doesn't help either. So how do I get my dr. To understand that and maybe try suboxone instead cause it worked last time. Or am I just wrong all toge...

Hi... my husband has been addicted to pain pills off and on for the past 5 years, with things getting really out of hand the past year. Almost 2 weeks ago he went to detox and rehab. He AMA'ed out of rehab 3 days ago because he said he couldn't take it. He is willing try something to help him control his cravings. I've done some reading on Naltrexone and was wondering how well it works and if anyone knows of a doctor in the Houston area that prescribes it? Right now he needs all the help that he can get. Thank you! =) ## Hi, I was hooked on pills and opiates for 5 years. Heavy user. Tried to quit many times. Plus two state run detox. Failed them all. I know everyone gets really sick. My husband is an alcoholic and trying hard to to stop drinking ,however this is very dangerous n we are wanting know how to slowly taper off and for how long without causing himself death or seizures ..any answers would be very appreciated our marriage depends on this for he is very angry on alcohol ## I am sorry about what you're dealing with. All addictions are tough. The best thing for him to do, for his own safety, would be to get medical help and possibly the support of something like AA. How much does he drink and how often? Does he spend any time sober? ## For withdrawal there is physical consequences such as seizures. He should stop cold turkey under guidance from your doctor who could prescribe drugs such as valium. Alcohol damages brain cells which resultsinthe above plus p...

After a serious alcohol induced illness I have never touched it again, 3 years completely dry. I have no physical craving but still seek in my life the 'feel good' that came from booze. I seek that buzz in other unharmful things or activities but it never seems to reach that 10 out 10 feeling that booze gave me. Consequently I believe I'm still addicted to the effect of alcohol. Do others have this problem, or understand mine? Does anyone know others in the same position who have used naltrexone for this situation? My life is trouble and generally stress free and I'm very fortunate so it's not life doing this. I'd really like to find a doctor or psychologist that has worked with this situation using naltrexone to treat it. Would really appreciate any information ...

What is the half life of alcohol in a "normal" adult? ## Wikipedia has an excellent article on Alcohol. It states that Alcohol does not have a typical "half life" as other drugs do, but it is eliminated from the blood stream at a constant rate. ("ethanol does not have an elimination half-life (i.e., is not metabolized at an exponential rate), and instead, is eliminated from the circulation at a constant rate.") It also says "The mean elimination rates for ethanol are 15 mg/dL per hour for men and 18 mg/dL per hour for women, with a range of 10 to 34 mg/dL per hour." Duration of action: 6 - 16 hours, but "Ethanol or its metabolites may be detectable in urine for up to 96 hours (3-5 days) after ingestion" ## Thanks Roy. I was wondering why I could n...

I was prescribed Contrave for weight loss. I also have a injury to my right upper arm and shoulder that has made me unable to move my my arm more than 6 inches forward, backwards and out to the side without causing horrible pain. My doctor prescribed Tramadol and occasionally Vicodin for pain relief. Fast forward 5 yrs. Opiod crisis. Doctor stops my prescription. Go thru withdraw and Pain is none stop. I've been taking antabuse for 20 days now, which is truely a blessing, freeing my mind. I haven't thought about alcohol and I truely believe It's helping me in many ways. However, I know what to do to lose weight, and I know how my body works. I'm very health oriented (beside the alcohol binges I took part in) and I can't seem to lose any weight. I've had a rutine for years now, and since the antabuse it has changed, and I notice It. Anyone else notice anything with antabuse and weight? I'd like to hear about It :D Thanks for reading this! ## Have you consulted your doctor? In most cases, people actually lose weight while taking Antabuse, due to the fact that since they aren't drinking their caloric intake is lower and there is less fluid retention. ## Hi...

My brother is a chronic alcoholic and the whole family is suffering. The doctor prescribed Esperal implant but I have only heard of Antabuse. Could please tell us side effects and where to find in my country of Macedonia? ## The biggest advantage of Esperal comparing to Disulfiram (Antabuse) pills is that it does not maintain a level of Disulfiram in the blood stream. Esperal is a microchip that tests blood stream for ethanol concentration around the clock and only if this level goes up, which means that the patient consumed alcohol, Esperal drops one crystal of highly concentrated Disulfiram and the reaction starts. Which means that Esperal has virtually no side effects. In my practice, I had only one patient from almost one thousand who violated the rules and activated the implant. ##...

Hi. I'm looking to identify a dark red sort of maroon purple gel capsule...says "as+ cc" on it in white letters. I found it in the bathroom garbage popped open at one end. The person who put it there is an (ex? Is there such a thing) opiate addict allegedly on vivitrol, who overdosed twice last week on some type of injected drug. He is his own problem at 31 years old, but I'm curious... Thanks. ## May have been Accutane. Or Coricidin - would this person be getting messed up on Dextromethorphan ## That is listed as being an Alka Seltzer Plus Cough & Cold gelcap, which contains Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, and Dextromethorphan, it is usually used to treat cold symptoms. I'm taking Vivitrol for opiate suspension. It's working wonders for me...but I have a horrible taste in my mouth....and everything I try to eat or drink doesn't taste as it should. Even brushing my teeth is challenging, because of the taste. Does anyone else have this problem? What did you do? ## Hello, Teri! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. Yes, a change in taste is a reported side effect of Vivitrol, along with congestion, fear and lack of appetite. I've had a couple medications that have caused such an issue and the only thing I really found that helped me was to suck on strong candy, or sip cola throughout the day. Have you asked your doctor if they have any solutions? ## Thank you for replying! :) Yes, I've been sipping soda, an...

Hi. I have had the naltrexone implant for approx 2 months now. When I got it I cried with relief when driving home because I thought it would be my saviour after everything I heard and read. I have been a black out drinker for over 10 years now. Have done detoxes, one rehab, two years of AA and nothing helped. Continued to have the never ending torture of thinking about the damn drink. But I'm devastated that I'm still drinking most nights on this thing. I know it's psychological, it's definitely not physical cravings. I am forcing large quantities of discusting tasteting cheap vodka down my through because I just can't handle being sober. Always so scared to be sober. I don't enjoy drink anymore and go straight to black out drunk yet I can't stop. Getting ve...
