Adderall Backorder (Page 68)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

I am 68 yrs old. Several of my close friends have ADHD and three of my six children have ADHD. My children are in their late 30's and 40's. The ones I know that take Adderall have not had any problems getting their monthly medication. One of them uses Walgreens. So it appears the problem has a lot to do with where a person lives

I wouldn't take a placebo. Never said I would.. sorry you're so angry and suspicious and confused. I hope you get your meds and help. In my u experience, anger never got me my meds but speaking truth to power and saying everything with a smile gets me my meds... I've never gone without them in 12 yrs. I find it difficult to believe the no pharmacy in your area can get the meds. But I do believe they're not filling your scripts. Seems they don't want your business... Sounds like your doctor isn't on your side. Get a new doctor when my doctor is unsympathetic to my mental health and be nice to pharmacists is my experience.

I hope the FDA will increase the dosage limits to compensate for the poor efficacy of these generics.

I am not normally a rude person. I am tired of not feeling normal. I can not function at the place I want to. I guess I was just venting so I apologize if I offended you.

Re: Debbie M in California (# 1347) Expand Referenced Message

No problem. It's terribly frustrating. I feel the same way.... Low functioning is definitely frustrating and 0 medication/cold turkey is just plain dangerous! Even titrating off Adderall can create terrible irritability. Then not functioning at baseline is infuriating. How nice that you took the time to reply. I really hope you get it sorted out. Btw, I'm back on my usual Teva Rx and dosage and barely feel focused and am exhausted a lot. Something is just wrong in the pharma world now..... It's just too strange that meds are either unavailable or ineffective or doctors are afraid to write scripts. Fortunately Adderall generic is reasonable $ with Good Rx. And if a different manufacturer is in stock you can have a PARTIAL filled, like a week. Pay in cash then try out the other manufacturers.

Rcma and Debbie M.
I am back on Teva also. They are much less effective than the ones I took pre-pandemic.
I have a friend who gets her Lannett generic at an independent store, however that store told me they are not taking new Adderall patients. I traded her one of mine for one of hers. Hers was slightly better. She has not been without but maybe one month they were late.
My doctor says 60 mg is max dose but just isn't working well. I take 3 30mg one day then 1 30mg the next day. Even with the 3 tabs, I may or may not feel "Normal" and able to do everyday chores like dishes, laundry, lawn care. The old Teva's more or less made me get up and do what needed to be done. I have lost interest in doing things. When I went to a Medicare Advantage Plan, I started paying my psychiatrist out of pocket $130 per visit so going to see him every month to discuss these issues is not feasible for me. And the extended medication visit is $260. I have seen him twice this year and explained the issues I was having. He really did not understand until he was given Camber generic pain pills for his knee pain.

The DEA does control the availability, which is why some stores will not accept new patients. How do I go to every store when I barely have the desire to do anything. My anxiety disorder doesn't help. It's not fun being looked at as a drug seeker. Perhaps reporting these generics over and over to the FDA would help but I doubt it. Even though I believe if the companies are cutting corners on Adderall, they are cutting corners on all generics, thus threatening the lives of millions of people who believe generics are EXACTLY the same as the brand name. I have used analogies to try to get others to understand. Expensive cars vs low priced cars. Or baking cakes. Will one person's cake be the same as another's when made with the same recipe but different quality ingredients in different kitchens? Maybe, maybe not.
Lord help us. Who will be our advocate???

Brand and generic drugs are not identical. Generics are not identical. I remember when there were no generics. In the past 10-15 years, generic stimulants and opiates have gotten worse and worse.

Ironically all the cognitive energy going into finding your meds is negatively impacting pre-existing cognitive fatigue

IOW at a certain point, all the effort has diminishing returns and you're susceptible to being the creator of the fatigue. Think "serenity prayer". Know what you can change and what you cannot. Re-organizing life around realities is skillful adaptation. Winter coats in Winter and light cotton in summer, right? Seems basic. Well, we're experiencing a drought of quality ADD meds.... Adapt accordingly. So imo at this point.... We are our own advocates. There is so much chaos in America and pharma right now; the supply chain rules everything; quarterly profit reports determine all decisions by pharma, not public health or ethics. I'm not being salty ... actually just calling the balls and strikes: at this point, forget about how it used to be because it's not going back. Decisions have obviously been made behind closed doors. These formulations for Adderall and such is the "New Coke" and nobody at the FDA, TEVA, Lannett, MALLIINKRODT, DEA, or any pharmacy benefit management company, pharmacy or doctor's office gives a damn. Global wheat shortages, energy costs, political culture wars, domestic terrorism and absurd obsessions about pronouns and women's health choices are way higher on the agenda for 99.9% of the bureaucracy, administrative state, Wall Street and law enforcement. I'm not holding my breath that this is going to change. Pan out, widen the lens... This is a non-issue to everyone except people who need the medication (who honestly are not the power brokers). Look at the US - most battles are about wanting things to be the way they used to be. But not everyone agrees on the utopian baseline. Sorry if I sound preachy. But I'm just trying to help by saying "welcome to how it is and it's not going back "

A thought that someone on here can probably say more about.... Urine sample. That's how to determine efficacy, bioavailability etc. I'm sure that doctors know what a "normal" baseline level should be for a specific dosage of Adderall. I have never looked into this but I do know that urine samples tell the story... Doctors have used this method to determine if patients are actually taking their meds; or using their meds as prescribed vs over-medicating. I've never been tested but I recall signing a "contract" that said the doctor can ask for a urine sample to determine if I am compliant with the terms of the script. So... Obviously if he generics are crap the answer is in the urine. I wonder how a Teva urine sample compares to a Lannett or Wilshire etc!

Thanks. It's definitely a strange time we're living through and almost everything is like an alternate reality, and *almost* everyone wants things to be "normal" again. Sigh.

Re: Rcma (# 1353) Expand Referenced Message

I don't think urine sample will tell how much drug is in the system, especially between manufacturers. They are notoriously inaccurate, in my opinion, from my experience. During my depressive years, I took an overdose of Xanax but my blood test from the hospital indicated no benzodiazepines in my blood.

After all these years of fighting, I suppose I will let it go, doing what I can when I can and resting and sleeping the rest of the time. My main issue is getting started and finishing. I do alright as long as I get started. I am much more tired now than I was 5 years ago but it could be due to other stressors - death of friends, increased physical pain, general dissatisfaction with world events, etc.

There is a supply chain problem currently for Teva D-Amphetamine salts. It’s happening in every town. We’re looking at mid to late August if you google it.

Re: Rue (# 1357) Expand Referenced Message

I was fortunate to have gotten TEVA adderall 2 weeks ago. I'm going to get off of it cause it's not worth the hassle anymore. Does CVS have it or not, month after month. And, it isn't even good stuff. 2 to 3 years ago adderall was good. It's not an excellent drug anymore. I'm finding the same aggravation with pain meds. 1 script is good and the next is terrible. It's absolute BS that all medications aren't what they once were. I'm sure this holds true for antidepressants and other meds. Damn shame it's like this.

It's not just about the supply issues. Its allocation and it's increased demand.
