Abuse Deterrent Xtampza Vs. Oxycontin (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

Newly FDA approved Xtampza ER has a different abuse deterent additive than Oxycontin, however I have not tried it yet for effectiveness. I have taken Oxycontin over 10 years so I felt the huge difference when they began adding abuse additive to it. I am curious if anyone has info on this new med, how it works as compared to Oxycontin, or all info on it that may help me decide if I should switch? I always had excellent results with Oxycontin but when the abuse stuff was started it took so much away from effectiveness. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

It is terrible medicine, I have a high tolerance to all opiates so this is how I evaluated it: I had the 27mg capsules which are supposed to be the same as the 30mg op (perdu pharma) - it's a lie and a scam. As I said before I have an extremely high tolerance so I don't condone anyone else trying this. I started with 3 of the xtampza 27mg, and an hour later nothing. Took 4 more an hour later, still nothing. So I took 5 more, so now within a couple hours 12 of them; so 324 mg of oxy, and still no relaxation, little to no pain relief. If I would have taken 12 30mg oxy op30 I would have been fine, but trust me I would feel comfortable, drowsy, lots of pain relief. Now I've never done that with 30s but I have with the 60s, took 5 at once and felt nice, but the xtampza, forget about it. They have manipulated this good drug for pain and turned it into I don't know what, but it sucks and is worthless, especially if you've been on these kinds of pills for 10 plus years, you know it's all a scam!??

I think everyone agrees that it's expensive. Any thoughts on how it works or doesn't work for you?

Re: Lou (# 25) Expand Referenced Message

I have been on Xtampza 36 mg.ER C12A for about five months. I also have Oxycodone 15mg up to 5 times a day for break through pain. Most days I only need two of them and some days I don't use any of them.
I have a great pain management doctor. She doesn't like her patients in pain. I have pain every day. Some days it's bad then other days it is horrible. I have new l take them for back and neck pain. I have several discs that in my back and neck that are very mean. LOL. Also arthritis along with other problems. I was on 75mg of MS Contin, but they had gone way up in price. I needed something else for the long acting medicine. For me the Xtampza 36mg works good. It is expensive, but the company will give you a discount card. The first prescription is free then they are $25.00 a month. Like I said, for me they work really good. If you don't think they are working just stop taking for a couple of days. I was without mine for a week, and wow, I hurt so darn bad. Give them about a week or two before you decide that they aren't working. I wish you luck in finding some pain relief.

Re: Lou (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

Have taken Percocet for 5 yrs. no problem, only 4 10 mg. a day sometimes more or less. MScontin 15mg.@ nite. My concern is that I can't even open a bottle of pills in the AM! I cannot wait hours to get relief just to get out of bed! With my Percocet tab 1rst thing and read 15-30 minutes, I'm up and about quicker. It may be abuse resistant but what about the majority of us thats aren't abusing and need to get up and go to work? My insurance Co. is forcing this on me next yr! I can control exactly what I need for different days by using 1/2 tabs, then add another 1/2 if needed. Thus taking less sometimes. With Extampra er i have to take a full dose not knowing if i need it some days!

Re: Phil (# 44) Expand Referenced Message

Phil is that in same family as hydrocodone and oxycodone? What I mean is I get hives and the meds for lupus started making my stomach bleed plus I got sphincter of oddi disfuction after gallbladder surgery that went wrong . I found I couldn't take dilaudid but could take low dose morphine but they switched it to IR and for some reason on bad days it wears off in 4-6 hours . Do you think the new drug you said was gentle might work or could I still have that same allergic reaction ? It seems everything even patches I was allergic to so right now I'm paying attention to these forums and trying to educate myself Bc I feel so lost with this incurable disease ! Thanks

I need to find out if OxyContin 10 extended release can be misused/abused? I have had 8 back and neck surgeries in the last 5 years and have to take pain meds just to be able to move. However I am concerned because I have a son who used to use Roxie’s and I am trying to find a pain med that is safe (I know no med is 100 percent safe for someone addicted). I was told that the OxyContin was abuse proof but I really need to know for sure because I will do without if it means my son would try to get them and abuse them. Thank you.

Re: CHAD from Kentucky (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

Chad, Thank you so much for sharing your story. I read some negative things about it and then I saw your story. It helped me feel better about switching over to Xtanza ER from oxy OP's 80 mg twice aday to 80mg Xtanza twice aday (actually 72mg) but you know what I mean. I too have been dealing with severe back pain after my lower back surgery. After hearing your story, I have nothing to complain about at all! You are a brave person and so awesome for taking the time to share this. Thank you Chad and keep up the Great Positive Attitude that clearly comes through in your message. You are an Amazing couragous survivor that most people probably could not survive from but you have! God Bless you Chad, stay strong like you obviously are! Because of you, I will go into this switch tommorrow evening and stay positive and give it a chance! Thank you so much. One last thing. "Fist bump to you while saying, "YOU ARE THE MAN CHAD"!

Short-acting medicine for oxycontin is oxycodone. It comes in many milligrams.

I'm having trouble getting my insurance to pay for the Xtampza. Any information on how to get the discount card? I'm really hoping this medicine is going to help me get through the days with work, and home life. I have severe chronic foot pain and I have been taking 30+ mg of Percocet everyday. (10 mg. At a time) I tried Butrans patches and they didn't touch my pain. Just caused irritation and had me nodding off every time I sat down lol. I don't need that! I need relief!! My job is very physical and wearing shoes is extremely painful! Thanks for the information! Good luck to you all!

Re: Axl (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I'm sorry but if you're taking that many it screams addiction to me. Please be careful. You can overdose that way. I promise no judgement only caring about you as a human being

Re: Axl (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I never could take anything like Percocet or hydrocodone or oxycodone which I hate because I heard it does offer great pain relief. Isn't there a kit you can buy that tells you what's in it and the fillers? I've heard of those before but I'm not sir how effective they are. It seems a good pharmacy would tell you the honest truth about it! I almost wonder if they're making more expensive drugs for everyone to try and then in 10 yrs say it's addicting like they did ultram which is a drug people used to throw away. It helps more with depression in my opinion but as others have said it's all about money! Good luck to you! I hope you get some answers!
