New Pain Killer Opana (Top voted first)

Updated

I was just prescribed this medicine and do not feel very comfortable taking it. I would like to know if any one has tried this drug and how did it work. I was previously on oxycontin and the Dr. just changed me to this. Also i am allergic to mophine, alot of people have told me including the doctors that i work for that i should not take this due to my allergy. I have not filled the prescription and the Dr. that prescribed it has not called me back yet. Please give me any answers from anyone

JACK WISE= YOU NEED 66.67 G PER DOSE OF OPANA ER TO EQUAL 200MG OF MORPHINE

You see, the problem here is NOT the drug, but the people who take the drugs expecting to feel the same. It DOES NOT give you the rushing high of Oxycontin or percocet. It is sad because these people are typing but its the part of the brain that loves that rush actually doing the typing of it doesnt work, etc.. THE MIND IS A POWERFUL THING FOLKS!!!! It is proven to be much stronger than Oxycodone so how can someone say that their ORIGINAL pain isn't covered. withdrawal is a powerful motivator... God Bless. BTW I have been there, done that so please don't feel that I dont get it or tlaking out of my A&#&

NOTE TO JACK WISE:

Your doctor has given you too low of a dose, going from 200mgs of MS Contin to 40mgs of Opana is NOT an equivelent dosage, that is why you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Additionally, when you stop taking narcotics, or go to a lower dose, then with the withdrawal symptoms, you will experience rebound pain, so your pain will actually seem much worse for a few weeks.

I was recently prescribed Opana after being on ten milligram percocet for years due to severe scoliosis and herniated discs in my neck. My dr. just prescribed it. I hate it. It does nothing for the pain at all and honestly I find that the percocet or ten milligram vicodin does the job much better. I have an appointment with my dr. on Monday and I am going to tell him to switch my medication back to percocet or vicodin. Hope this helps all of you. Also, if you are ever experiencing withdrawals of any kind, which I have had at times, ask your dr. for suboxone. It is wonderful. It is a small orange pill that disolves under your tongue and takes away ALL withdrawal symptoms. It is only fair for people like us who have chronic pain, we certainly do not need to deal with withdrawal symptoms on top of what the pain we deal with on a daily basis. Hope this helps......

I'm a chronic pain patient of many years. I've been on 15 mg Percocet every 4-6 hours for several years. I wanted to change to Opana, because I'd heard I could start it without going thro withdrawals from the Percocet. So I stopped the Percocet, like the doctor and pharmacists had directed, and started on Opana. Both said I WOULD NOT go thro withdrawal. But by the 4th or 5th day, I absolutely KNEW I was sufferuing from severe withdrawal, and had to stop the Opana and go back on the Percocet, to my dismay. Been there, done that sorta thing. I believe had I had help getting off the percocet, I coukld've tolerated the Opana. Opana is made by the same pharmaceutical company as Percocet.

I was on norco, oxycontin and finally on opana for a brain cyst and degernative disk disease. Opana worked fine for about 3 days and then in my opinion it has turned into living hell. I am trying desparately to get off the stuff. I have horrible sweats aches diarrhea shakes insomnia and the list goes on. My dr never told me it was 8 times more powerful than morphine or I would have said no. If anyone knows how to ease the withdrawal symptoms I would be greatly appreciate help. For a while u think your dr is a god and then you have no idea what a disservice they have done to you. Don't take Opana!

I was tried on Opana for two months, doc did same thing went from 200mg twice a day to 40 mg twice a day. It was the worst two months of my life. If it hadn't been for my oxycodone I have for breathru not sure I would have made it. even increasing the dose to 3 times a day did little more helped.I was climbing the walls the whole time. Not only did I have problems with withdrawl, and rebound pain, it also made me sick as a dog from the first dose I took. Won't ever touch it again

never ever take subutex(buprenorphine) or suboxone( buprenorphine and naloxone) if you are on strong pain killers even if you are withdrawing buprenorphine and naloxone specially together brings on withdrawals faster and more intense than just waiting for your next dose of painkillers !

Yes I totally agree with Madman. Subutex and Suboxone only prolong your withdrawal symptoms. Because the half-life on Subs is way longer than regular pain killers (about 37 hours max) you feel fine for days after taking it in some cases.... and then when the s**t finally wears off you're in for all the withdrawal you can handle.

to Pissed: I have been taking Opana for over 2 yrs, and I think it's a wonderful medicine for people who suffer with chronic pain. I am sorry about the death of your cousin, however, the drug did not kill your cousin, your cousin killed himself. It is impossible to keep people that want to do drugs away from drugs. People have been looking for highs for ages, and probably will not stop. Besides pot, any drug that is taken in large doses will kill someone, Opana is a time released medicine that is meant to be released over a 12 hour period, and if a person takes off the time release then they will get the entire dosage at once, therefore, causing them to overdose. Once again, I am sorry, but do not blame a medicine that has helped thousands of chronic pain sufferers.

I have been on Opana for awhile now and what I was told by the Dr. and the hospital is that Opana is not Morphine. If you are really worried about it maybe call your pharmacy and ask them because they would know either way. I guess what is your allergy to morphine because if it wasn't life threatning I would way the odds.

hi this is my first time doing anything like this! ok i have been on oxy ir and oxy er for several years now for numerous congenital bone problems. i had searched for years for someone to help me and by the time everything was diagnosed and determined to be unfixable even with surgery the doctors were more willing to treat my pain. for years i was on vicodan and was never told a rx was suppose to last 30 days so naturally when i ran out i would have withdrawls wich i thought was part of my sickness. it took me years to figure out it was wd, and that this small amount was suppose to last 30 days!! but now that ihave been on the oxys for awhile things have been so much better for me. i got the op pill this last time and since i take mine orally i thought there should be no problems with the coating, i was wrong.. i have been having gas and stomach discomfort along with little bouts of wd every morning because they do not last as long and they take awhile to take effect.

Opana er 20mg. is the best pain medication i have ever taken, it works great!! If your doctor is willing to put you on this medicine, let him. You will not be disappointed. i have been prescribed oxycontin 80mg. x3 a day and they do not work as well as opana 20mg. x2 a day

I correct. It is MG NOT Grams. I have come to one conclusion. Those who say that Opana doesnt wover their pain is obviously stating that they arent getting the rush that Oxycontin provides. Opana more than covers your pain. As a matter of fact I guarantee that once I say this you'll all of a sudden (mentally) think that Opana is better than Oxycontin. It takes 2 oxycontin to equal 1 opana. Therefore 40MG's of Opana equals 80MG of Oxycontin. SO if you take 40MG Opana ER twice a day, it is like 2 80MG Oxycontin.

Ciao

I have no scientific proof of this, only my expieriance. I take large doses of gabapenton for nerve pain. As strange as it sound, this medication seems to lesson withdrawel symptoms to a tolorable level for me. Just a thought

wow, they actually prescribed opana for you, while in knowledge that you are allergic to morphine?

OH MY WORD!!! thats a sign to run for the hills!

but by n by, its your perogative, again if that was me, I would NOT take it.

Although im not allergic to morph, and am taking opana now. It doesnt aggravate me. Maybe its cuz i take this pure minerals to provide stealth health on daily basis that we all need certain amount of nutrition. This one here provides A-Z. Eat anything or take anything u want, and you are safe no matter what. It even prevents Cancer, and works with many ailments. I know what u are thinking. Why am i not taking minerals instead of pills. Well I have a long story. So Once i get off it, I can simply take certain minerals to wean off this powerful drug and not experience withdrawals and it flushes out all toxins from within.

Any other comments, you are welcome.

Opana is deadly! This drug killed my 22 year old cousin. How is it this is not watched more carefully and gets onto the street? Not accepetable! Some one needs to step in and put this to a stop!

I was taking 40mg opana er bid for nrarly 2 years but had been able to cut down to one per day day. I decided to stop taking it altogether and by day 2 I was hit with paralyzing depression, insomnia, loss of appetite and morning diharrea. It's day 7...this withdrawal is slow and terrible. I feel like a zombie. Although my mood has lifted a little I feel hollow and am unable to perform routine functions. Does anyone know when one starts to feel normal again?
