Will Fentanyl Show Up In Drug Test As An Opiate (Page 14) (Top voted first)

Man the amount of people who have no clue what they are talking about yet spitting advice on it like they are an expert is bewildering. NO FENTANYL does not show up as an opiate on any test anywhere. In fact the only things that will show up as an opiate are morphine, codeine, and heroin and that is because heroin and morphine metabolize into morphine. Not even oxycodone or hydrocodone can be detected as an opiate they have to be specifically tested for as they metabolize differently, same with methadone, methadone has to be specifically tested for, it will not show up as anything but methadone. So unless the test you are taking is specifically testing for fentanyl then you will be fine. The question is whether or not the test you are taking is testing for fentanyl. I have yet to see a piss test that does test for it. Even if they sent it to a lab for testing they would have to tell the lab what to look for and that they specifically want to know if fentanyl metabolites are present. Anyone that tells you anything different from this has no clue what they are talking about or how opiates and their derivatives are detected after use. Drugs that have been taken are detected by looking for what they metabolize into, in the body and no two drugs metabolize the same unless they are from the same base as I explained in the beginning. Codeine, opium, heroin, and morphine are all detected as opiates because they are all made from opium. An opioid is not made from opium, they just have a somewhat similar structure and create the same effect by binding to the same receptors, but they in no way metabolize into the same metabolites which is essentially the by product of the chemical after the body has processed it. You are taking Fentanyl via a different system than the patch, of course it will show in your urine. Wearing the transdermal patch is a totally different delivery system and urine usually has to be sent to a lab. I'm on the patch and it does not show up without being sent away.

Look who doesn't know what they're talking about, I have taken absolutely nothing but my doctor prescribed hydrocodone and bought a simple Walgreens over the counter test and tested positive for opiates and that's a simple Walgreens test

ok i have a question to anyone that can answer this correctly and accurately pls.. i go to the dr once a month to get my meds which is norco for my pain and addys for my adhd and bipolar, but i have a serious problem. they refused to give me my scripts bc when i took the drug screen it showed that i had NOTHING in my system, but here is the problem i drank a red bull right before i took the drug screen, im wondering did nothing show up bc i drank a red bull right before i took the test??...and also this is my MAIN CONCERN, i had a 75 mcg fentanaly patch the day before i went in for the screen and bc i had a faulty negative for all the meds i take they sent it off to the lab and the results should be in tomorrow but my biggest fear is that they detect the fentanaly in the lab tests and i wont ever get my meds back, pls anyone that knows anything PLEASE let me know so i can put my mind at least at a little ease.. i just want to know if the fentanyl will show up, and if it does will they take my meds from me????.... PLS ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!

Ummm your wrong.. I don't know where you got your information from but it does show up in a drug test. Vicodin and oxy also show up as an opiate in a standard drug test. Do your homework.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Fentanyl, Vicodin, Percent, and Oxycontin all show up as opiates. Don't trust those Walmart home drug kits. You also forgot about Demerol.

Yes, i just got popped for fentanyl on a UA. The pharmacist is correct. I had 64 ng of fentanyl detected as i bought several oxycontin 30s and come to find out, allot of the oxy 30s on the street are forgery out of mexico. They substitute fentanyl in them. Do not listen to thst dude, i have proof.

You are wrong about some things. I've worked in a lab doing urine screens for years and I can tell you that opiates and heroin are tested diffrrently. Opiates that show up in opiate tests are oxycodone, hydrocodone, dilaudid, fentanyl. You are right that heroin metabolizes into morphine, and the others don't, that's why we have seperate tests for heroin and opiates. We recently started doing a seperate test just for Oxycodone, since that's become a huge problem around here. If we wanted to really see what's going on we would test for all 3. And of the client was taking heroin and perscription Vicodin trying to hide the heroin we could find it. We also have a seperate test for suboxone and methadone.

I just took a urine drug screen through applecare for a soon to be employer. I am currently prescribed oxycodone,lorazepam,and I was also recently given Loratab as well. I know these things will show up and I have proof of prescription. Still I've still done fentanyl yesterday after reading your post. Are you 100% it won't show up?

Thank you for posting this, I am on probation and take both fentanyl and hydrocodone. Basically I just wanted to know are you absolutely positive that they won't test positive unless specifically tested for?

Wendy, Thanyou so much for telling people the truth. First and foremost pharmacists, thru many of my expierences, seem to know a lot more then docs. For me common sense is, I was told fentanyl was a man made, and the old duragesic patch was real morphine! I took the morphine patch during the time people were dieing, because those patches were giving the person the med all at once. So again, I hope people listen to YOU

Fentanyl DOES show up as an opiate. I have worked in a lab doing urine testing for 10 years and it can and does show up. Now here's the difference: if you are getting tested for heroin, that's a different metabolite than other opiates like Oxy, Vicodin, etc. Theoretically you can test negative for opiates, and positive for heroin, and vice versa. If the testing method is a dip stick, 99% of the time it won't differentiate. Hope that helps.
