Pain In My Hip Bones, Knee Bones And Shoulder Bones After Taking Mirtazapine (Top voted first)

Updated

Hi, iv only been taking 15mg Mirtazapine for a week and doubled the dose to 30mg last night. It had helped me sleep up until i doubled the dose. Although i wanted to sleep i had terrible aching in my hip, knee and shoulder bones. I am still aching today but not as bad. I may think its my bones andit may even be muscular but the pain was so intence i just could not sleep. I have been experiencing muscle twitching whilst taking the 15mg but that was mild, this was unbearable. Has any one else experienced this please? Thanks

I was switched from Amitriptyline to Mirtazipine in August, have had arthritic pain in hands, arms, feet, knees ever since. Referred to a rheumatologist as they thought I had arthritis, googled side effects of Mitazipine when I realised it is not normal to feel this way.....a trip back to doctors and I've now tapered the meds down over two weeks and am now back on Amitriptyline.....hoping the pains go away soon but don't know how long this will take to leave my body.

I have been having increasing and intense sacral pain which, as I look back, seems to coincide with when I stated taking Remeron. No doctor can find the cause of the pain and so far it has only been managed with methadone or Tramadol. I stopped taking Remeron a few days ago and now the pain seems less intense and I don't need as much Tramadol. Am I just crazy or is there a connection between the pain and Remeron. I don't want to get another epidural. By the way, I am sleeping bettter off of Remeron.

Hello all I have been taking Mirtazapine 45mgs for about 7 months and recently experienced aching pains in both shoulders and hip joints. Is that a side effect of Mirtazapine

Yes, I have now decided to stop taking it. I got shoulder and hip pain so badly that I could not sleep after going on it but thought it might be a sports injury. Now both knees, sciatica on both sides, and plantar fasciitis on both sides to go along with the shoulders and the hips. I had none of this before and was doing tennis, work out and Golf along with my job. Now everything is difficult so I am obviously going to stop the driug and see if this will resolve. Would love to know anyone else’s experience. It was prescribed to me for sleep and it did work for that a bit but I think I would rather be awake then all of this other suffering.

That type of aching may be the sign of a serious side effect, so you should contact your doctor about it.

Learn more Mirtazapine details here.

It might be that it's just not the right medication for you and you may need to try something else.

Have you looked into your other treatment options yet?

Thank you Verwon, i have been back to GP today and as you said i have has serious side effects. Last night my illucinations were horrific and dont want to experience that again. My GP has put me on Citalopram 20mg, though my GP has said to take in the morning i an debateing wether to take at night as i dont sleep very well. I also take Zopiclone 7.5mg but only when im desperate for sleep. Is Citalopram as effective/strong as Mirtazapine?

Re: RobinRR (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Robin's post sounds exactly like me: very physically active for years, and started taking mirtazapine primarily for insomnia. It was wonderful for sleep, but the aches and pains have accumulated since I began taking it, and there doesn't seem to be any obvious reason for it. My doctors seem perplexed by my pains because my scans barely show any problems.

Doctors are great at diagnosing problems that they can visually see. They're not so great at researching medications and considering all of the side effects associated with them. Even my physical therapist seemed unaware of any types of pain associated with mirtazapine. Look around the internet, though, and it seems obvious. It's clearly a problem for many people.

Re: Suzie (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I was on 100mg. Amtryptalin misspelled for 20 years my body started feeling funky so i quit cold turkey. I had the worst withdrawal symptoms dreams of hurting people very gross. Lasted about a month. WENT TO DR. TOLD HIM I QUIT TAKING THEM HIM AND 4 OTHER OF MY DRS. TOLD ME THAT WAS THE STUPIDEST THING THEY HEARD THAT IT COULD HAVE KILLED ME. 100mg. Not 25 or 50. Funny it still wouldnt make me sleepy then they explained all the parts of the body effects its a old school drug that taking 5 could kill you. They put me back on them along with 22 other pills. Spent almost 3 months in the hospital almost died because of a infection in my spine due to EPIDURAL injections told tjem i quit the amtryps they put me back on them. I wouldnt take them so they made a nurse watch me and look in my mouth so its a bad drug i had to quit again.
