Updated

I am wondering if there is a manufacturer of oxycontin other then purdue? I am taking oxycontin 80 mlgm, and purdue has changed the medication, and it does not work for me with what they have done to it.

I just had major back surgery. I was having issues with my normal dose 60mg oxycotin not working. So I went to my doctors and he gave me a increase to 80mg.I was confused when i got my prescription, cause it had OP on it, instead of OC. I asked the pharmacy if they were generic cause those make me itch something terrible. He had explain to me that, they are the same thing just different formula. Well, in my opinion, they are full of s**t. I never had a problem with them, actually those were the only thing that really worked on me. Whatever theses thing are, they dont work, in fact my 60 OC worked better. I have a hard time swallowing them, I get get upset stomachs to were I vomit, headache sometimes, and I even get hives. Which i never had none of this before. Its not like they can give me anything else, cause nothing else works for me. So, we have to suffer cause there are idiots out there that sell and misuse them. There has to be the old formula available out there still for the people that are allergic to whatever they put into those, like me. We should not be their guinea pigs.

Thank you, thank you, soooo much for all yall's support and replies on this matter. I went to the pharmacy and demanded my money back, and they refused. I filed a report and they made it seem like if I wasnt a dope fiend then I would not have a problem taking the tamper proof 80 mlg. When I explained that they made me sick, and (sorry to be so blunt) when I vomited, the whole entire pill came up in one slimy, gooey ball. Now you tell me how that is going to come close to touching my pain as I am a cancer patient myself? I wish sooo much that for those idiots that abuse them, that I could just reach out and grab their hand, and just a fathom of the pain I experiance on a daily basis would shoot into their body. They would fall down and beg to pass away. The worst thing about it yall, is that I had NO earthly idea that there was going to be a change. Had I of known, then maybe by this time, I would of slowly been able to be introduced to another medication that might work for me, but now, I am absolutely left to do what the dope fiends do, and that is to call the pharmacys and ask if they have the original brand. If they dont, I move on to the next one. I pray that yall find come comfort in whatever direction you need to go in order to find some pain relief. My advise is just do the same as I have been. Thanks for your time, sylver.

Can your doctor request the OC instead of OP for the Oxycotin? I have not been able to find generic, are you currently getting this from the manufacturer Actavis? The OP makes me very tired and nauseas and does not work as well, let me know...

I called Purdue yesterday and they did tell me that they changed the compound. They did document my call and were asking me all kinds of crazy questions such as where do you keep the Oxycontin in your home, what is your age, where do you live and what is your birth date etc... Then I said why are you asking me all of these crazy questions when you have not even asked me anything about what is wrong with it. They said that they had to fill out a form. It made me feel as if they were going to report me to the police to see if I was doing something illegal or something... I finally got to tell her that it no longer works worth a crap and it makes me very nauseous and so drowsy that I could fall asleep talking to my manager at work. I also told her that I wanted my money back and I would be glad to send the pills back since it does not work worth a crap. If I didn't want something that worked then I could have just got the Morphine since it only cost me $10 and it doesn't work either but it didn't cost me a ton of money. I have not heard back on that yet.

To Hurting That is what Purdue said to me. I had to do a phone interview. I told them they could call the FDA or DEA i could care less but the op's do not work. They can not tell me that they are the same as oc's.

I've been prescribed oxycontin for several years. I am now taking 40 mgs 3x daily. I've tried just about everything and I have found the oxy to be the most effective medicine for my pain. It allows me to walk, maintain my job and do light household chores. Today I go to Walgreens to pick up my monthly 90 pills. When I put one in my mouth I immediately knew something was different. Just the size and feel of the pill was wrong. I checked the pills in the bottle and they have OP imprinted on them. The ones I was getting before this time always had an OC on them. I called the Walgreens to tell them I thought they gave me the wrong pills. They said no, that these were indeed Perdue Oxycontins. This lead me to Google and brought me here. Its nearly three hours after swallowing this pill and I can tell its just not the same, I have a low grade headache and I am feeling as if I did not take a pill at all. I'm feeling like I should take another to get the relief I am accustomed to. I am not happy with this sudden change. After reading thru these posts I guess my only recourse is to call and complain to the FDA and to Perdue. Though I am hesitant to give my details to a drug company and a government agency! Is there anyway to get this hard outer coating off the pill so I can get to the medicine quicker when I swallow it? Its f***ed up that they have taken something that is apparently very effective for thousands of people and changed it to protect the abusers. The abusers are gonna find a way no matter what. Perhaps if enough legitimate people voice their concerns and complaints they will change it back.

i agree with the real pain people that have been through hell and back just to get some pain control. i have run the gammit on every kinda med and when i was put on oxycontin i was not happy i was doing good on vicodan/ the dr. said er was the law now after taking them for so many years other meds do not work that is the real curse. also these ops are going to be about 500 dollars more expensive i think it was a way to charge more, the bad thing is that no matter what i am switched to it wil take months. i don't even understand the getting high part, i never felt high is it different when you are in pain also how can knowone be forewarned after i got them the first time i would have switched i took alittle stokpile that i kept for emergencies the first time. i called the pharmicist and i pay a big copay and she implied they where generic so i let the dr. write them again and they where the ops i couldn,t believe it, i would have switched they do not work for me i had left overs and wound up in an emergency room. i am allergic to them i also think there is something in them that gives you an aversion, i almost go into full blown withdrawls before i can even take one. i can,t wait till monday i have to get temporary breakthrough till i can get new or start frseh on morphine or something. this is the end of these and the fda might have ulyimately did it but purdue fought all generics. there is a new drug that is once a day that was just realeased march 2010. i posted and noone had heard of it. exalgo for severe pain its used in other countries for a long time and it just came out if anybody has heard of it let me know its made by one of the co. that did generic oxys.

ASAP:To the persons recieveing Ethex how are your script worded. I have at the top of script Do Not Substitue If ethex only distributes not manufactures as brand how can I get the Doctor to write so I can go to Walgreen and not get Purdues sickening harmful OP's? The people are not helpful when i ask about if Medical will pay for them. But they must cost alot less than Purdues needing to get money back from the class action suit. Here $669.09 for Ethex and it cost alot more for the State of California for Purdues Brand Name, which Purdue from the readings has given to generics. Please those in the know of what their talking about how to have my script worded is needed. thank you again

There are no other companies making Oxycontin. The patent is held by one company who over the years bought other companies who either made a Extended release Pain Medication or were about to release a medication to the phamacy market. Then they removed the products from production thereby causing a single source for Extended Release Oxycodone Medications. There are no others...only Oxycontin - a antitrust suit should have been filed a long time ago and perhaps with the current attention people are bringing to the limited options for treatment one will be filed. Such a action either via a class action suit or anti trust investigation will take many years and will be very vigously fought by Perdue Pharma, they are no strangers to the court system and have lost millions in fines, which it appears they simply added the cost to their customers over the years, so who was really fined? Who is dealing with the hardship now? If viewed from a business point of view I imagine the new changes to Oxycontin might very well renew the Patent on the product. Slick Willy could learn from these folks.

oxycodone. With the rediculous laws in florida now that no pharmacies are going to carry the drug. I am a terminal patient and have been on the drug for four years and expect this year to be the last. i have medicare and medicaid and it does cover the meds but if i can't get them filled, what do i do. Very upset and in pain. If anyone has any idea of where to go in the fort myers area of florida, i would appreciate it. I have portal vein thrombosis, unfixable. Oxydose liquid also has been taken off the market, that is what got me out of bed in the am to take care of my grandchildren. I can't afford to go tothese pain clinics and pay that kind of money. Ilive on disability and social security. Would appreciate anyone that could help. Also my doctor is putting me on oxycontin 80/s and my ins only covers generics that no one carries. help there as well. Thx everybody

DEAR SEA,
I'm new to this board and learning how to navigate and post to certain others, but having a challanging time...anyways, I hope you can read this: I have read many of your posts and see that you are suffering -- I mean really suffering with cancer and trying to find adequate pain relief. I, too, am a chronic pain patient and want to recommend that you ask your doctor about Fentanyl transdermal patches. You can wear them around the clock and there is a time-release of the medication. I see that you have paid sooo much for your med's, so you may have to check how much it'll cost. Fentanyl (aka Duragesic Patch) has changed my life incredibly. I do have roxicodone for bt relief, but the dose of Fent. I am on, I can keep from taking the bt med's regularly. It is prescribed to be worn for 72hrs, but I and most people, need to change it out every 48hrs to receive a more balanced long-term relief. Because of your condition, you are VERY entitled to the best pain relief out there; this patch contains a med that is 100 times stronger than morphine - and leaves oxycontin blowing in the wind. Anyways, I can see you are having a rough time, and I hope my suggestion will help you in anyway. I wish you the best!

To Genttleful, I was o the patches before but stilll had to take to many other pain meds. I am now prescried the ms contin which is extended release but have to take 1 every 8 hours and norco for breakthroughl It is 100mg of ms contin. I also have a doctor that would like to put a pain pump by your spine. I am exhaused from surgeries so I will try this for a month. I get some relief but more aware of the pain. It seems my days of having some sort of life has ended unless something else comes out.

To all,
There seems to be several people with the same related issues, maybe I can help wit this information.
1. To my knowledge there is no generic Oxycontin Perdue Pharma has done a fine job of either buying and then shutting down product lines of competitors or opening law suits against patent infringement. That is why you can't find generic Oxycontin, you should be able to get an over ride for brand name meds is no generic exists though your insurance company also quantity over rides on done with the help of your prescribing Doctor however they do a fine job of building a headache for any doctor that is cooperative with your interests in mind so warn the Doctor of this of he/she is in for a ruse awakening, so insurance companies insist on talking to the doctor directly with a 45 minute task time so the doctors give up. The question here is an lead to a doctors frustration they will finally put a pharmacist on the phone and the doctor has to insist it is medically necessary at the dosage the doc wants and for the ailment the doctor is treating for, the doctors think that because they wrote the prescription it should be clear enough that the doc wants you to get it.
2. In some cases for people who can't afford prescriptions the pharmaceutical companies claim to have a path for you to get free or greatly reduced cost meds. The way this works is your doctor fill out a form and you do as well and then they will send the meds to the doctors office to give to you each prescription the doctors don't get paid by any one for doing this so again there is a catch 22 of sorts.
Some doctors have recently gone back to writing IR Medication and a foundation with the addition of compounded ER this is done by writing prescriptions for dosages and combinations that don;to exist such as 100mg IR Oxycodone and 100 mg ER Oxycodone the doctor needs to instruct as written and you need to go to a compounding pharmacy otherwise they will just bounce it saying it doesn't come the way the doctor wrote it. Also as for no fillers at the time of writing the prescription, the compounding pharmacy has their own safety stuff to add the ER if they do it at all.
Otherwise you will need a mix of 30mg Roxicodone and 100mg Oxycodone capsules( as written ) good luck on this with both the doctor and finding a compounding pharmacy, it is a common thing depending on where you are and can a local pharmacy that doesn't compound can get what you need from one that does for it, if they are not local.
3. Finally, and this is dependent on your competence and illness, if required you can have written 1 cc Deluded for self IM injection. It works for about an hour and the usual starting dose is 30 units working up to 1 ml. they come in premeasured vials. Again dependent on your illness and god help you if you need it and can't get it, it is not to be taken lightly.
4. Opana - a brand medication made by ENDO Perdue hasn't bought them yet but I have heard they are talking (sic) Opana is a 5mg and 10 mg IR and Opana ER comes many different doses up to 40mg which is a little stronger then Oxycontin but selects different dopiod receptors so it's a good idea to take both in small dosages or add the Opana ir, my reading tells me the Mu receptor is hit by Opana ( this is related to spinal pain ) and as a group D1 - D5 is hot by Oxycontin ( Oxycodone 0 doctors and even some pain management doctors are not familiar with.
5. Be very careful of other meds you take for interactions, some meds make opiods stronger and some weaker and if you miss a dose of the type that make them stronger and don;t realize it...you may wake up dead!
6. To those people that abuse medications, get help before you die or take someone with you! Take respondsibilty for your actions, I am more concerned with those people that need pain medications to get some level or normalcy back into their lives then I m concerned for people who will find some way to find themselves in the emergency room no matter what protections on placed in medications.

I have been on Oxycontin for a long time now from an accident where I was hit by a Truck while I rode my motorcycle. I l was living in terrible pain until I found Oxycontin,Well I just started with the new version of this pill and it is not working as well. I have more pain breaking threw and I also have a upset stomach. I have tried to eat before taking them and still the same thing with the upset stomache! What did they do to this wonder drug? Instead of changing the meds they should change the law that if you are caught with it and do not have a script with it then it should be a manatory jail time! 5 years for each pill you have illeagly!
Because of the abusers we have to suffer???? This was a God send when I started to take them, It gave me back my life and now I am back in pain and miserable!
What is in this new formula?
