Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 18)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

I was taking 300mg daily of lyrica for 3+ years for a diagnosis of fybromyalgia. I never received relief from this medication, it seemed that this medication worsened my symptoms and I developed problems with my vision. I told my doctor I was no longer going to take the lyrica. I have been lyrica free for almost 2 years. I still have body pain, sometimes so bad that I dont even want to get out of bed. I described this as a body toothache level 6-7 pain constantly and even though I walk almost daily to get the kinks out I suffer badly from just this simply exercise. My feet will never be the same, feels like I am ripping a rubber band in my feet. I do keep iced water bottles in freezer to ice my feet after walks and when I get up in the morning. I do have multiple problems with my back which may be the main factor of all my pain. I want to know if I should seek legal help for the prescibing of lyrica? Any feed back is helpful.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain, Kelly. Keep walking, but maybe walk a little slower. Thats what I do. I was walking the other morning and a power walker came whizzing by me. She said 'Morning!, how are you?" I said, 'moving sloy', she said, 'at least you're moving!', She's right, we have to keep moving. Remember warms showers and baths. By day three of level 7 pain, I feel like killling someone, so I stay in bed and cry the whole day, believe it or not, it helps. What a mess we're in. Lets stick together, we can get Pfizer and at least be able to live decent lives. But then again, I don't remember what that was. Stay cool.

Well let me start over since somhow someway what I was writing just diappeared! typical of the way my lifegoes. I just want to send hopes and prayers to all my fellow lyrica survivors. i do hope that that we do get pfiser, i just feel that i as well as others will sufer from the afects of this drug lyrica, beside losing all of my teeth and the abilty to talk its my memoery that absolutly drives me crazy, I dont much drive anymore because I have actually stooped in the middle of an intersection on a green light scared to death thinking I was suppoesd to have stopped. I cant remember what I am supposed to do go on green or stop on green. I also embarrass my 17 year old son because I introduce myself and % min later I walk in and say Hi Im Bo mother. It just devastates my whole family the way I am. I hav toldall of you before that before my injury I was a proessional photographer ad dealt with people everyday. I was actually a photographer for members of congress. I am saddened to think I can never do that again. I can never wrk again. It was a severe injury but this lyrica gave me more of a disablity than my intial injury( Not really) but yyou guys know what I mean! I am so so depressed dealing with chronic pain is bad enough but on top of that the depression from feeling just stupid from this drug. I think I have told everyone I cant even get on the phone and order a pizza cause I fall all over mysel the words are there but wont come out and when they do WOW, people on other line must think what a moron! Im tired o this and Im not one to go around and sue people but you know what I just think we all had the right to know what this drug was going to do to us! I feel like we were the Guynie Pigs! Its not fair and I am angry depressed and almost in forecloser because I cant work and anyone knows dealing with these differeny agencies , they are a nightmare themselves. I waht to have hope that they do get pfiser for all of us sufering the efect of it but also for the people out there who dont know what they are getting into whe there doctor perscibes them LYRICA. LETS GET IT OFF THE MARKET! No more people need to suffer. I think of all of you who sufer from it and no your not alone and lyrica can show its ugly head in fiffereny=t ways in different people. So dont ever question your sanity, ITS THE LYRICA love to you all VICKY

Vicky: So sorry to hear about your life and what happened to re:lyrica. I would like to hear that you have gotten off of that drug. Unfortunately, when I got offthe drug, thesypmtoms stayed. My youngest dauaghter, 26, smils at me, rubs my arm and says"you already told us that mommie..." I can see the pain in her eyes. I'm 55 and I'm being treated like I'm 98 with alzheimers. My teeth are gone, gone. My kids used to call me pretty. Now, I see sorrow and sadness, thank God they don't live in the same city as I do. They would really feel bad if they knew how much time I spend in bed. My biggest problem is money. I'm on disability which I think is below poverty level because a 'fly by nite' company was allowed to treat me like a guinea pig. I hope they gfot their data. Kinda skewed, if you ask me. bugt I ramble. Hang in there Vicki, I won't have a place to live in January. I'll pray for all of us.

I bet I could have a lawsuit between lyrica and cymbalta. For the effects of being on them and the effects of now being off of them. I only took them for 6 months, it was horrible. I am on facebook as Tonya Doyle and have the Texas Rangers as my image please add me to any groups or your page because I just cant do this alone anymore.

How do the teeth loss problems begin? Yesterday my wife's back molar just broke off at the gum. Is there a treatment a dentist can do to stop the tooth loss? Or was this something different?

Aubrey: The tooth loss is from the Lyrica. I have had almost all my teeth break off at the gum. My only advice is to get off the Lyrica or try to keep up with the 'fallout'. no pun intended. If you can afford it,, that is. I had no dental insuance and am on disability, so you can imagine. My only recourse is(are) dentures, when I save up enough money for this. Stay on top of any tooth decay. It happens pretty fast. Take care.

Aubrey & Tonya: There's also a page on Facebook called Lyrica Survivors which might give you a bit more info & support. Unfortunately, FB took away the discussions options, so you have to wade through the posts, but people don't mind at all if you post a question that's been asked before. I have also had awful tooth decay, root canals, & crumbling teeth. Just my opinion, but I believe it's a combination of nerve damage inside the teeth & Lyrica blocking the absorption of key nutrients necessary for healthy teeth. I've said this before, but I had no cavities from age 15 - 40, but once I had been taking Lyrica for a few years I had about 20 small cavities within a year. I was on Lyrica for another 2 years (not realizing the connection). Since I've been off it, I've had another 16 cavities, 2 root canals & 2 crumbled teeth. I have almost no enamel left on my teeth & can't keep up with the expenses, so am living with what's left of a crumbled tooth until I have $400 for a tooth extraction. Its a bit pricier for me because I also have severe TMJ & can only open my mouth about 5mm - I add that because the TMJ is a result of all the structural changes in my mouth...due to Lyrica. I believe the damage is permanent, but dietary changes, adding supplements, & taking good care of remaining teeth can only help & hopefully slow any damage. Of course, I'm not a dentist BUT I do know more than the one that yanked my jaw around while working in my mouth & did not believe me when I said I WAS brushing, flossing, & had not had cavities since childhood. Best advice I can give is to find a CARING, knowledgeable dentist who BELIEVES that medication can affect your teeth. Yes, it costs a bundle. I have to save up to treat the worst areas first & make difficult choices (i.e. physical therapy or dentist this month) but (to me) it's well worth it. Hope this looonnnggg-winded reply helps someone! Wishing better days ahead for you both & for everyone with damage from Lyrica!

Thanks to those who responded. The amount of suffering caused by this drug is extreme, and no one is even trying to sue the company. The effects devistate a users whole life and ruins our family's. The strain on people alone should require a FDA inquiry. Everybody lets google the FDA and file complaints on this drug if they got a huge number of complaints might get the ball rolling and mabey a lawyer would have the courage and resources to sue the company.

My name is Dianne. When I first started taking Lyrica, I did not notice a huge change, but gradually, my pain level from Fibromyalgia did decrease and I felt like I had part of my life back. I was on it for about six months and my insurance company changed which meant I could no longer take Lyrica because I could not afford it myself. I had noticed some swelling of my major joints, but attributed it to arthritis. I was also on Cymbalta and for a while I thoutht things were better. The insurance company would not pay for Cymbalta either, or rather it was on such a high tier, like Lyrica, that I could not even afford the co-pay. The next year, my situation changed and I was able to pay the co-pay and went back on Lyrica because the first time was a good experience. BIG MISTAKE. 18 months later...I was confused, could not think of words to say, 28 pounds heavier, repeating things I had already said, and my major joints were so swollen, that I got a stress fracture in my left tibia just getting into my car! I have been off Lyrica for about a year and a half. My memory is still mess up, I have 14 cavities at the gum line and have lost one tooth at the gum line. I can't put a sentence together when I am talking and still can't think of specific words. I have lost 15 pounds. This drug is dangerous. When I talked with my doctor about it he defended it by not talking about the problems as if they were caused by Lyrica. I am discusted and frightened. I feel like a experiment gone wrong.

I am a 35 year registered nurse...started on Lyrica in 2010..took for 3-4 months for PMR and fibro....became disoriented....did not know how to hang an IV bag...would just sit and look at the wall....forgot how to drive or even start my car....took until May of this year to occasionally start driving again....still have confusion, forgetfulness, stammering and loss of memory....had to quit my job...after a great career, I am not confident enough to do any patient care....keep hoping the symptoms will resolve, but after reading here....not very optimistic....

Diane,
I also have vertigo and walk down the hallway sometimes leaning on the side of the wall....have just started taking HCTZ for high blood pressure this week....have had oral surgery and 2-3 root canals since October of last year.....did you have any numbness in your hands and feet? My PCP just suggested an antidepressant.....I told him I wasn't depressed, I was angry....demanded to see a rheumatologist who took me off of Lyrica and said his facility did not prescribe the medications because they call it the crazy medication.....at 60, I am too young for social security and have applied for disability, but no results so far.....living off my husbands SS and retirement....lots of changes to our lifestyle....but just so glad to still be here....I really thought I was going to die while I was taking the Lyrica....prayers for everyone...

Becca, I did have numbness in hands and feet, but attributed it to Fibromyalgia. I also got disoriented, like going to see the doctor and knowing which doctor I was going to, but driving to the wrong doctors office. I lose my car when I park it unless very careful about noticing where I park. I have never had problems like this in my life. At one time I worked for a fortune 500 Contractor, kept 100's of sub-contractors tele numbers in my head, under a Vice-President of the company with 5 Project Managers. I could handle whatever came at me, but now I am hesitant about taking on anything. I have totally lost my self confidence. I get dizzy easily and have what my doctor called "the exorcist" effect, where I am driving or whatever and the world "jerks", like it just makes a big "blink" or something. I feel like my life was stolen and I have no idea of how to get it back. I have also, because of lack of confidence, lost track of friends and the lifestyle I used to have. The only hobby I have kept is reading. I used to garden, motorcycle riding, do ceramics, and paint. Motivation just is not there. I barely get through each day,

I am an RN as well. I was assaulted at work by a patient on 4 occasions and had nerve pain and asked my doc to put me on lyrica. the worst med ever....As a single mom of 3 boys I totally isolated myself and almost became an agoraphobic. I was unable to even complete a sentence and lost memory from the day before. I weaned myself off it in 2 weeks and then saw my doc and was put on neurontin for my nerve pain but it was too late at that point and i ended up in a psych ward for the weekend due to confusion and was told i had bipolar and was put on heavy duty meds. I have been off it for over a year now and have come a long way since then. It has been almost like i have had to rehab myself into recovery. I totally related to your post I am finally now looking for work and hope you get better so you can be a nurse again...

I never really thought about how many people are affected by fibromyalgia.....at the clinic, I dealt with patients who were affected, but a small percentage....it is sad that the medications developed to help everyone are causing more problems in addition to the everyday hardships and pain....we know the short term effects, but what are going to be the long term effects of this drug......I am one year post Lyrica and still have problems.....it is sad that to some people, this is the ONLY medication that makes them able to deal with every day living....drug developers need to monitor and listen to the public to know when a medication needs tweeking.....enough said...just rambling....B

I am actually very glad I stopped by this forum. I have been on Lyrica for several years now for nerve damage and am experiencing some of these symptoms described by people on here. Especially what someone has described as a toothache in your legs. The thing that really gets me is the fact that Lyrica is a narcotic!
I was never told this by my doctor, and did not realize it until I ran out of it. the withdrawals are horrible. That is when I asked my pharmacist if it was a narcotic. I was suspicious after they started marking the bottle as "double counted". Now don't get me wrong, this med does work for me, better than gabapentin, which my body became immune to after several years. Now I am afraid that the Lyrica will do the same thing. I can tell you right now that if I were to have to go off of this, I would have to go through a rehab. I just hope that the drug company will stand by us through things like this.
Also, my teeth were bad before being on it, but I am loosing fillings all of a sudden and like most of us who have responded, we have no dental insurance!
Just wanted to share my thoughts. Bee

Mr. Moss, My name is Stephanie Lewis. I can't believe the things I have read on this post about the effects of Lyrica. I took it for about 2 years. I cannot begin to describe to you the effect it had on my life. Prior to takinr.g Lyrica...I owned my own new construction cleaning business. My foot and back starting hurting so bad that I couldnt work. My Dr. eventually had to put me on Hydrocodone. My family was concerned that I would and was addicted to it so for that reason I asked for Lyrica because I thought it was a nonnarcotic. I even told my Dr. this. I began to cry all day...when I say all day...I mean ALL day. I was having manic depression. I was a strong minded woman whom my children(which are grown) family and friends respected and loved. Lyrica destroyed my life. Everyone thought I was abusing my meds and I wasnt. They thought I was losing my mind. I couldnt think straight. I couldnt finish senteces because I would forget how to say the words. I am still that way even after I stopped taking it. I have good moments but more bad thean anything. My brother and my children were so afraid I was going to take my life that they had me sent to a psych ward for an evaluation. I cannot describe to you how painful it was for me to see the look in everyones eyes..especially my children. I will never forget it.Even though I am off Lyrica now..I am dealing with the long term effects and picking up the pieces of my life trying to revuild things with my loved ones who had such a great deal of respect for me at one time. I try to explain to peope what this medicine did to my life, my mind...I cant. There just arent words. I am trying to find you on Facebook. Would you please send me your email address so I can contact you about this lawsuit. They shouldnt get away with all the damage they have done to all of our lives. Some days I still wonder even now what was the point of getting off of it and getting well...all the damage that was done while taking it of makes me just wish I had died instead. I love my husban and my children more than anything in this world and they were hurt so much through all of this. That grieves my heart everyday. Please help.

Stephanie
