these pills we get from mexico are not with steroids. they have been checked and re dhecked for me since 1987 and no steroids are found nor anything that can hurrt you unless you are alergic to sulfa drugs....anyone that has a good dr. will tell you the only reason we cant get them in usa is because it would put too many drs. outta business at least it would hurt them. my dr. i saw for 25 yrs told me stay on them they work for you. he has since retired and is a doctor without boarders wonderful honest man and he said there isnt anything in there that will hurt you my dear!

Ambophyllina contains the steroid triamcinolone. The doctors in Mexico who prescribe it say there are no steroids in it, but sadly they are lying. My mother took it for approx 5-6 months for COPD. Seemed like a miracle drug, she did wonderfully at first, but after a few months she started to develop all the classic symptoms of taking high dose steroids, diabetes, thin easily bruised skin, weakness, etc, and was diagnosed with cushings syndrome which continued to worsen severely.

Some people seem to tolerate this drug very well, others though, end up extremely ill from it. Her regular doctor said she would not survive another year if she continued to take it, and she honestly didn't look like she would. She's been off of it now for a couple of months and the turnaround has been amazing, her skin is healing, moonface is much less, bloodwork results are better, and she's gradually feeling better. She was extremely lucky, her immune system was so shot that even a minor cold could have had severe complications. Her COPD breathing problems have returned to a degree (about 25% of what they were before the pills, so far), but we are working hard on sustaining her respiratory fitness to help stave that off.

If you or someone you care about is taking or thinking of taking Ambophyllina, be aware of what it is and it's potentially deadly effects so that you can watch out for symptoms. And if you start having symptoms of taking steroids/ developing cushings, don't rely on the doctors in Mexico to tell you what to do, seek advice from your regular doctor or any other you can consult. I saw firsthand with my mom that the doctors from Carrillo Clinica will insist their medication is not the cause of any such symptoms because it's not a steroid, no, they'll tell you to keep taking it or to take less, and let you die.

It's a shame they take such an extraordinarily unethical approach regarding this medication, as it truly helps some people.

My mother-in-law has taken this pill (Ambophyllina) for 20 years and it really helps her lung problems. She recently had to go without for 6 weeks and she has had a terrible time with really severe asthma. Today she was able to take the pill again and we are hoping the asthma attacks are over.

I get this pill from a Doctor in Mexicali for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is my 'miracle medicine', my quality of life is so much better. I have been taking it for 4 years, my friend has been taking it for 37 years for RA and he is doing great. I am, nonetheless, very curious about it. Someone said they thought it was of German origin.

Ambophyllina is Theophilline. I have been using this pill for 15 years and it as greatly reduced my asthma attacks and haven't needed predisone in all 15 years. Also haven't been in the hospital since.

If you take the a off of Ambophyllina you can find out more about the drug. I was incorrect that it is theophilline.

Possibly Allerdryl, my wife has taken the product named Ambophyllina for allergies, but was given Allerdryl in Mexico by a different doctor for an allergic reaction to a insect bite -

Same shape, & markings(in Mexico), & when looked up on line, side effects of Allerdryl. Also known as Benadryl (Generic name Diphenhydramine) but dosage may be different?

Very astute of the doctor in Mexico, especially if its also useful in Arthritis which makes some sense as Arthritis may be linked with Allergies.

I can't guarantee the above but at least its something you can give a try and report back.

My mother is having a difficult time getting her ambophyllin now. She has taken it for 16 years. Does anyone know of a place or person that will ship it to her?

Dawnk - did you have the pill laboratory analyzed?

It is unethical if it does contain a steroid to say it does not. Could you post a link to your Laboratory analysis if there was one?

My spouse had no such problems with it but only took 1 pill at night over time. Also found great relief when by the ocean away from allergens.

Problems were greatly reduced by installation of a Venmar 3000 whole house Hepa air cleaner and air to air exchanger running 24 hours a day to provide Hepa filtered fresh air, took about 4 days to show results, so hasn't done a good comparison between Benadryl(Alydril) and Ambofilina (Ambophyllina) though markings were the same for Mexico for this little white pill with line down middle from the Carrillo Cinica.

I have been taking ambophyllina from the Carrillo Clinic for 11 years for COPD. I have not had any serious side effects from it. When I first started taking it, my pulmonologist had me do several blood tests to check my coritsol levels because he was concerned it contained steroids. Those tests showed no elevated cortisol level.

I recently ran out of pills and decided to see how I did without them. It has been 10 days and I'm having great difficulty breathing. In addition, I feel really stiff and have swelling in my feet that resembles rheumatoid arthritis.

I am very curious about a pill that can treat both rheumatoid arthritis and COPD. I am still concerned that it contains some steroid because I do have bruising and tearing of the skin. I also would like to know how DAWNK's mother's doctor determined that it contains triamcinolone. Did he actually have the pill analyzed in a lab or did he just do blood tests. I do know that some people do not do well with ambophyllina because someone I know decided to go to mexico and get the drub because I benefited from it so much. She had symptoms like Dawnk's mother had.

I have to say I have ambivalent feelings about the drug. I know it has helped me immensely but I wonder how much damage it might do long term and if it indeed contains steroids.

Please pass along any expert information you may have.

Thanks

Can you tell me where a person would start in attempting to develop information on the constituents of Ambophyllina?

Thank you,

My mother has been going to the Carrillo Clinic for over 15 years for COPD. These pills have helped her tremendously.
She also decide not to take it about 2 years ago because her brother a doctor told her they were steroids. She went about 8 days and had a very hard time breathing. Needless to say we made a trip to Mexicali. Dr. Carrillo told her to take a dose there and one when she got home that night. By the next day she was doing 100% better. She does bruise easily and her skin is thin. But she is almost 89 years old.
She feels that she would not be alive if not for these pills.

My wife has taken the product named Ambophyllina for allergies, but was given Allerdryl in Mexico by a different doctor for an allergic reaction to a insect bite and she had no Ambophyllina with her - It helped and had same shape, & markings(in Mexico), & when looked up on line, side effects of Allerdryl. Also known as Benadryl (Generic name Diphenhydramine). If you try these alternatives -please provide your opinion as to if this is the same drug.

I have been on Old Mexico medicine for 9 years and as soon as I started taking this asthma medicine(AMBOPHYLLINA 400 mg twice a day and MALEATO DE CLORFENAMINA 12 MG twice a day I noticed a difference. My plugged nose cleared up thru a sand storm on the way home to Colorado. Within a few days my husband would check to make sure I was alive at night when we were in bed as the medicine helped my breathing so much. In the beginning the medicine was wonderful. My breathing was awesome. Not to long after I was on it my skin starting thinning, I was bruising easy and my skin was slow to heal. I have terrible scars on my arms and below my knee from getting cut buildings fence or just running in to the corner of a feeder in the barn. The 9 years I have been on it multiple doctors say I have the moon face, developed what they call a buffalo hump on the back of my neck, continual bruising, skin tearing, have developed pressure behind my eyes, fatigue, really slow to heal, and immune system shot. Alot of these symptons are now considered, cushings disease. I recently had a cut on my leg, had 9 stiches. They had whip stitched the stiches because of my thin and 6 stiches still pulled thru.10 weeks later I still have a small hole in my leg and probably 8 more weeks of healing. Where the 3 stiches stayed in place it was healed in 10 days. I am trying to find out if there are steriods in the Ambophyllina that is causing this. I know this is not me. I am not saying the medicine isn't good, I am just saying it seem to be taking a tole on my personal body. I had a pulled calf muscle about 8 weeks ago just from walking and my Physical Therapist said I must be taking massive amount of steriods and the pulled calf muscle is just the start and expect alot more of this if I stay on them. I have went to my local doctor and he has put me on theophyllin and a Pulmacort. I start tomorrow and I am going to try a slowing wean myself off of the Old Mexico asthma medicine. My skin looks like a 90 years old women. I believe I am on steriods I just can't find proof anywhere I have researched. Please help******************

My daughter-in-law is a RN and went on a mission to find out the truth of this medicine from Old Mexico called Ambophyllin. She paid to go on a medical site and found there were 5 test done on this medicine and it is a steriod. It is Kenalog. I had a wonderful life for several years while I was on this medicine and this last year I developed Cushing Disease which is the Moon face, Buffalo hump, Easy bruising, slow to heal, immune system shot, weakness in my limbs, weight gain. I chose to have my Dr. help wean me off of the sterriod as I had started pulling muscles(one of the side effects) and halfing to do physical therapy and I just felt like I was going down hill real fast. Since I have gotten weaned off I am on a Pulmicort inhaler and theophylline(200mg) twice a day. So far I have had no trouble at all with my breathing.(1 month so far) On the other hand I don't know if it is side effects or what but my ankles are swelling every day, my knuckles have started to swell, my bones in my body just hurt, my strength is almost not there and there are days I just struggle to get thru the day. ( I run a semi full time and clean rentals for my dad so I am not one that just can sit around. ) I am doing some detoxing thru the feet and that seems to help the swelling in the ankles. I hope i just need to detox my body and I will be back to my old self. I am trying to find out if anybody has had similair problems and if there is something else I could do to help my body not hurt and be so stiff. Please Help
