What Is The Best Generic Of Lamictal? (Page 6)
UpdatedI've been taking the generic for Lamictal for about five years. Recently I've been feeling different at about the beginning of the year. I use to take the white ones but now I am taking a generic by Taro. What is the best generic for this drug? I never really payed any attention until I started getting this crazy migraines. If anyone has any insights it would be much appreciated.
Re: Connie (# 97)
Thank you. I never would have thought the UK for Lamictal. Two years ago I decided to lower my dose to 300 from 400mg so now I have 8 months before I run out. After that I will get it from abroad. I CANNOT function on lamotrogine. I’m still waiting for GSK to accept me or not on their FREE assistance program. You just can’t earn more than $41,00.00 in 2017
Re: Raechel (# 96)
I’ve been on my regular 100mg/day since Sunday, so far I’m feeling fine! Had a good day at work yesterday too so that always helps my mood. Thankful I haven’t had any weird side effects. I sometimes get headaches but honestly I don’t think they’re related to anything medication-wise. Again, not to say no one else will have side effects or be able to digest Unichem Lamotrigine as well but it’s worth a shot I’d say. I thought about trying Cipla (through Walmart) but that would have taken longer to get since I’d refilled and got stuck with Unichem already. Plus I’d heard mostly poor reviews on Cipla I think. Best of luck to everyone and thank you so much for the support and information. I’ll try and remember to update next Monday, a week after my first dose!
Re: Ashlie (# 102)
Thanks, awesome, Ashlie! Great news! I'm so glad that the first few rough days evened out. I know those were frustrating. I'm sure we'll hear a great report on Monday. This will be encouraging news for other Unichem triers. I know everyone's different, but the more success stories, the better.
Yes, I too, have not heard much good about Cipla. And we appreciate the feedback from you about Unichem!

Re: Connie (# 97)
How do you fill a prescription through Canada or the UK? Is there a web-based pharmacy that you have experience with?
Well it’s been a whole week on Unichem Lamotrigine 100mg/day and I still feel different than on Teva Lamotrigine and I don’t think it’s only because I know it’s not the same stuff. I still feel more irritated on a daily basis like I’m barely keeping my moods under control sometimes. I’m going to try 1&1/2 (150mg/day) and see if that helps. Maybe the Unichem formala is just slightly less effective than Teva. Maybe I just need to learn to meditate to even things out, haha. Thanks for the support, everyone.
Re: Ashlie (# 105)
Thank you, Ashlie, for continuing to keep us updated on your journey. I was just thinking of you today so I’m glad to hear from you. Not surprising - though a bit disappointing - that you’re not feeling as supported on Unichem as you were on Teva. Hopefully the increase will get you back to “even.”
Out if curiousity, any side effects that you notice other than the reduced effectiveness?
It looks like I will be trying out Unichem come end of month - we will see!
Re: Raechel (# 106)
I had a bumpy switch but I seem to be doing ok on Taro brand. I'd taken it for a month or two in the ancient past so I had some in the cabinet to trial. I found a page that said "Alembic" brand is madeby Northstar so I quickly passed on that. The same site said aurobindo was also made by Northstar and that was the other one I had in house :(
Taro is doing me well now. It's the only generic I didn't find too many bad comments about and did find some positive ones. I take a couple other medicines so I can't say for sure Taro Lamictal is soley responsible for a good run the past few days but it definitely hasn't hurt/brought me down.
Costco around here (Southern California) stocks Taro. Most pharmacies will try to order a brand in if you exain the situation. I've had Walgreens, rite aid, and costco do it for me all the time. They should be able to see if their distribution has it and then order it next day if so.
I'll try to update on Taro down the road. Anyone else switch to Taro? Thoughts?
Re: Lisa k (# 104)
I just googled canadian pharmacies and lamictal. It is on many sites. Its an option worth pursuing, since generics are not good for this drug.
Re: Ashlie (# 105)
I was switched from teva to unichem this week and it has been miserable.
I picking up Taro today and I hope it is better.
Re: Dwight S (# 109)
Wow, Dwight, I am so sorry to hear that. Would you mind sharing what was terrible about Unichem?
Re: Dwight S (# 109)
So sorry to hear the Unichem is not working out for you - please, please keep us posted how you do on the Taro - hope it will work better for you - hang in there!
Re: Raechel (# 110)
I've been on unichem for a week & so far ok. A little tired but no other side effects. But I have been using Teva with it to slowly get in my system. I have epilepsy & don't want to have a breakthrough seizure.
Re: Raechel (# 110)
I take lamotrgine as an anti-depressant. I imagine most of us lost far too much of our precious lives determing what is wrong with us and then finding the best treatment.
For me depression is slow thinking and the inability ton accomplish tasks. It was disheartening to have these symptoms come roaring back after 7 years. I have to be sharp when meeting with clients so I actually took Thursday and Friday off. Hopefully a few days on the Taro will have me back in order by Monday. It does seem better so far.
Re: Dwight s (# 113)
I'm doing pretty well on Taro so far (about 2 weeks) but I also take Nardil which is a pretty heavy anti-depressant.
I'm looking forward to hear how you do Dwight - please keep us informed. I had gotten worse on Alembic and Aurobindo but seem to be better after switching to Taro.
Re: Linz (# 55)
I had the same problem. Been on Teva for 8 years and since it's discontinued my Walgreens gave me unichem brand. I was soon having insomnia and mania issues. I normally take 200 mg of Teva, I have been working on cutting my dose of the new one down to 150 and I feel much better. I guess the Teva was weaker

I normally take 200 mg of Teva, I have been working on cutting my dose of the new one down to 150 and definitely all in the am. and I feel much better. I guess the unichem is stronger, at least for me.
Re: Connie (# 108)
I was told by Canadian pharmacy they were sending brand Lexapro and some generic from India showed up. They gave me my money back. If anyone orders from Canada and gets the real thing let me know. Also need to ask if anyone knows what antidepressant can be used with Lamictal? Lexapro just made things horribly worse. It took one year to wean off it.
Re: Lisa (# 67)
GSK rejected me. Turns out you have to earn less than $30,00.00 as a single, $41,00.00 for married joint income. $51,000 with a dependent. I just got a letter asking to talk to my doctor to hear about my side effects on generic. There may be hope yet. The letter I included with the application may change their minds. I am not a healthy person on top of being bipolar. I spend $650.00/ month on additional meds every month before Lamictal. I told them with the $1,160.00 added for Lamictal it’s more than my monthly income if I want to eat or not live on the street.
Re: Connie (# 108)
Teva was the closest to the brand name. I've been on it for 8 years. Walgreens gave me cipla today. Omg the body aches, it's like having the flu. I'm also on 200 mg topomax daily. With it i take cymbalta (antidepressant) which i start switching to Zoloft this week and i also take clonazepam 1.5mg at night. This is awful. I've taken teva brand on almost every seizure med I've gotten. It's a rotten thing to do to us. We depend on certain brands of generic..ok vent over.
Re: Ashlie (# 102)
I'm taking cipla 200mg 4 xs day today first day on it 3rd dose. I feel like i have the flu. I've tried torrents was awful i almost had a breakthrough seizure. I was on teva for 8 years. I take 4 meds a day. I just started feeling better and now not so much!
